Senior Systems Engineer

Senior Systems Engineer (Vancouver) – permanent

Animal Logic – the studio that brought you The LEGO Movie – is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer who is committed to supporting, managing and improving the overall efficiency in the usage of existing server/storage resources and core infrastructure in a mission critical production environment. This is a hands on role working within a fluid and dynamic environment.

Key responsibilities include:

Plan and implement infrastructure resources to meet changing business requirements, with all appropriate documentation for support and user education
Microsoft Exchange, Active Directory, MSSQL and other Microsoft Services
Implement and support a wide variety of software and hardware including Centos Linux and Microsoft Windows for desktop and server, VMWare, Palo Alto Firewalls, Brocade & HP Networking, Veeam Backup and Recovery
Improve departmental service and performance; reduce costs through process optimization, standardization and efficient utilization and management of infrastructure systems; and maximize business productivity by making core services powerful and flexible enough to meet changing production demands
Author functional and design specifications, build prototype systems, and use other appropriate techniques to achieve architecture definition and design goals
Support the overall technical goals in partnership with software, R&D and production groups
Undertake system diagnosis, repair, build, maintain, patches and install software as required
Investigate and liaise with concerned parties including vendors for problem resolution, support issues and handling complaints
To be successful in this role, the following is required of all candidates:
Minimum 5 years of experience in a Systems Engineer role or similar
Bachelor or Master degree, or equivalent knowledge and experience are required in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Engineering or equivalent
An in-depth knowledge of infrastructure architectures and individual component relationships within an architecture (e.g. storage systems, DNS, directory services, mail servers, web servers, etc.), accompanied by broad knowledge in a number of other technical areas (e.g. networking, security etc.)
Knowledgeable regarding open architectures, protocols, and message formats
Expertise in scripting (e.g. Perl, shell, C, etc.) for automation and management of architecture services.
Ability to communicate and work collaboratively in a team environment
Excellent attention to technical details and ability to deliver accurate work
Proven ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem solve
Foster and support a knowledge sharing culture
Ability to work towards, and meet, deadlines in high-pressure environment
Experience working within an Entertainment/Media industry is desirable
Certification in one or more of the following areas (ideal but not essential): Isilon, NetApp, Linux, Microsoft Windows, Brocade, Cisco, and/or Solaris

Production Supervisor (FX, Lighting & Compositing)

Everything is awesome when you’re part of the team! Animal Logic – the studio that brought you The LEGO Movie – is looking for a Production Supervisor to help in the management of The Lego Movie Sequel.
Over the duration of the project, you’ll need to supervise all processes, procedures, outputs and deliverables for the FX, Lighting, Compositing, and DI departments, supporting the Production Coordinators within those departments and ensuring the outputs and interactions are aligned with production needs.

Character Rigger

We are currently seeking an exceptional Character Rigger to work on our hybrid feature film ‘Peter Rabbit’.
You will be working closely with a variety of departments including; R&D, Art, Modelling, Layout and Animation, to develop, implement and maintain character and prop assets for use in both Layout and Animation.

The following is required of all candidates:

· 2 years experience working on creatures for feature film quality productions.
· Ability to troubleshoot and manage communication during the support phase of published rigs as they move through shots and departments.
· Able and comfortable working to specs as precisely or as creatively as a brief outlines.
· Eagerness to learn and share with your peers in a very development and learning oriented professional environment.
· Proficiency in Python and ability to navigate a large managed code base, or willingness to learn in a fast paced technical environment.
· Proficiency with a recent version of Maya and a strongly node-oriented approach to problems

The following will be highly regarded, but isn’t necessary:

· A good artistic eye and the necessary software dexterity to produce or correct shapes and models when it might tighten the feedback loop with another department.
· Foundational knowledge of trigonometry and linear algebra.
· Experience with character related simulation (soft tissues and localized secondary).
· Experience with cloth simulation.

Senior Character Modeller

Animal Logic is one of the world’s most accomplished digital studios producing award winning, ground breaking and trail blazing animation, visual effects and design.
We are currently looking for a Senior Character Modeller for our hybrid project ‘Peter Rabbit’.

Candidates with the following experience are encouraged to apply:

5 years’ experience on feature films and/or animated features.
Production experience using Maya, Z Brush and/or Mudbox.
Experience with other software such as 3D coat, Speedtree and Vue would be an advantage.
Strong experience with photo realistic hard surfacing and/or character modelling.
A strong understanding of the topological requirements of subdivision surface for both static and deforming models.
Ability to follow a brief and produce complex models to a high standard with a thorough understanding of shape, scale and form.
Technically aware of the requirements of rigging.
A good understanding of the needs of surfacing and an ability to provide good UV layouts of your models.
Ability to translate approved 3D sculptural form or concept art into production ready geometry.
Interest in ‘set dressing’.
An understanding of proper edge flow and polygon density.
Interest in pipeline and process.
Experience and ability in guiding and mentoring junior level crew.
Ability to provide topology and turntables examples.
Traditional sculpting skills a plus.

We are currently seeking an exceptional Character Rigger to work on our hybrid feature film ‘Peter Rabbit’.
You will be working closely with a variety of departments including; R&D, Art, Modelling, Layout and Animation, to develop, implement and maintain character and prop assets for use in both Layout and Animation.

The following is required of all candidates:

· 5 years experience working on creatures for feature film quality productions.
· Experience working with animators to produce or improve design of rigs and tools.
· Ability to troubleshoot and manage communication during the support phase of published rigs as they move through shots and departments.
· An eye for detail and anatomy, and experience with high quality, realistic deformation of creatures.
· Foundational knowledge of trigonometry and linear algebra to the extent needed to discuss and work through issues and solutions with other TDs or developers.
· Ability to multi task and time manage in a versatile manner as the schedule’s focus moves from few hero rig tasks in the beginning to many support tasks towards the tail end.
· Eagerness to learn and share with your peers in a very development and learning oriented professional environment.
· Ability to understand and work to briefs that can range from fine grained specifics to coarsely grained design tasks.
· Proficiency in Python and ability to navigate a large managed code base.
· Proficiency with a recent version of Maya and a strongly node-oriented approach to problems

The following will be highly regarded, but isn’t necessary:

· Knowledge of C++.
· Mathematical skill of a Computer Science Degree equivalent level.
· A good artistic eye and the necessary software dexterity to produce or correct shapes and models when it might tighten the feedback loop with another department.
