We are currently looking for an experienced Lead Java Developer to join us in our new Vancouver facility. You will form the nucleus of a team of Java developers responsible for deploying and maintaining our core systems in a fresh campus, while expanding them to meet evolving requirements.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with a variety of Java based technologies, whilst also liaising directly with the films production managers to scope and deliver solutions to Vancouver-based projects. The Vancouver team will operate as a key part of the global team, and you will collaborate regularly with counterparts in the Sydney office to evolve a number of core systems
.
As the first developer in the Java team in Vancouver, you will be involved in recruiting and mentoring additional developers. You will interact regularly with artists and leads in the various production departments. You will be directly involved in the development and maintenance of production tracking and reporting systems; digital asset management systems; and database systems that play a key role in automating our production pipeline.

To be successful in this role you must have:
At least 6 years Java development experience
Previous technical leadership experience
Demonstrated experience working with internal or external clients
Track record of developing robust and scalable systems

Good planning and estimating abilities

We are seeking a System Support Engineering Supervisor who is committed to leading and managing a customer focused Support team in a dynamic environment.

As the Systems Support Engineering Supervisor you will strive to improve departmental service and performance, reduce costs through efficient utilisation and management of support systems; and maximise business productivity by having the responsiveness and flexibility necessary to meet changing production demands.

Key responsibilities include:
Manage and monitor performance, quality, and completeness of work within the Systems Support Engineering Team to ensure that team goals for responsiveness, quality, and service levels are met or exceeded.
Monitor incoming requests, and delegate work efficiently to ensure successful completion of projects and tasks across crew members of all skill levels.
Refine time management skills to consistently meet service level goals, and supervise time management across all Technical Support personnel.
Effectively manage time for team and oneself.
Provide first level of escalation for sensitive or technically difficult problems.

We are seeking a Systems Engineering Lead who is able to work in a fast paced, high pressured environment with highly diverse user abilities. This is a hands on role.

As the Sys Engineering Lead you will be responsible for supporting, managing and improving the overall efficiency in the usage of existing server/storage resources and core infrastructure services.

Key responsibilities include:
Taking a leadership role in supporting, managing, streamlining and further developing our key data file server architecture.
Improve departmental service and performance, reduce costs through efficient utilization and management of infrastructure systems and maximize business productivity by making core services powerful and flexible enough to meet changing production demands.
Take a particular leadership role in managing and continuing to develop Animal Logic’s core infrastructure, providing in depth expert knowledge of filer server architecture as well as and guidance and mentoring for other team members on issues.
Be a high-level escalation point for sensitive or technically difficult problems.
Participate in the recruiting and interview process for new employees as required.
Lead project development and implementation in partnership with technical management and peers
Participate in brainstorming and problem solving to create and maintain production pipeline(s) and support AL’s overall technical goals in partnership with software R&D, video and digital operations, and production groups.
Author functional and design specifications, build prototype systems, and use other appropriate techniques to achieve architecture definition and design goals.

Support/Desktop Engineer – Animal Logic Vancouver

We are seeking a Support Engineer who has the experience to work across different operating systems! You will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the company’s IT systems and networks and provide efficient desktop/laptop support to all business users.

Key responsibilities include:
Install and configure computer systems, diagnose hardware and software faults and solve technical and application problems
Act as the point of escalation when issues arise and direct them where most appropriate
Liaison between the Vancouver and Sydney IT support teams
Setting up and disabling users’ accounts and profiles
Ensure security and upgrades are applied and kept up to date
Monitoring and maintaining computer systems and networks
Support the overall technical goals in partnership with software, R&D and production groups
Communicate with the team and other departments for any IT support related issues
Responsible for sharing all acquired knowledge concerning problem resolutions

Implement methods, tools and techniques to improve the efficiency, security, and effectiveness of infrastructure services.

Associate Producer – Animal Logic Vancouver

A fantastic opportunity has become available for an Associate Producer to work on Animal Logic’s first animated feature in Vancouver! You’ll be one of the first on the ground to help build the Production Management team!

The Associate Producer is responsible for the management of all processes, schedules, budgets, crew and resources necessary to deliver high quality animation within specific creative, strategic and business parameters.

The position will see you collaborating with the film’s Head of Production, Producer, Director, Art Director, Editor, Animation Director and all of the amazing crew. The position directly manages communication to a variety of teams and is ultimately responsible for delivering the film on schedule and within budget.

Other duties that you’ll be responsible for include:
Developing and executing the digital production schedule
Working closely with the CG supervision team to define and communicate creative technique and methodology to achieve project objectives
Provide leadership and guidance around all areas of influence
Problem solve, anticipate, communicate, inspire and execute
Participate in the casting and recruiting of relevant crew
You will need:
At least 6 or more years working as an Associate Producer or in an equivalent senior production management position.

Render TD – Animal Logic Sydney

We are currently looking for a Render TD to work across our LEGO® Animated Features!

The main duty of a RTD will be to provide technical support to the lighting team, identify inefficiencies and troubleshoot lighting assets. You will help leads and senior artists in mentoring/training other members of the team.

The RTD will serve as a point of contact for the Render Wranglers in the Lighting Team, and will be conversant with render farm processes and procedures.

The RTD will develop scripts, tools and reports to simplify/streamline the workflow and improve computation performance. The RTD will comply with the coding practices defined by the R&D department.

You may be required to undertake some shot lighting production work depending on production requirements.

The following will be highly regarded:
3 years minimum working on feature animation or VFX projects in a similar role
Production experience with path tracing renderers
Render wrangling experience
Look development experience
Data analysis experience
Experience in Python, C++ and source control systems
Shader or renderer coding experience a plus

Lead Pipeline Developer – Animal Logic Vancouver

Animal Logic, an award winning animation, visual effects and design studio is coming to Vancouver! ‘Cover your butts’ it’s The LEGO ® Movie Sequel!

We will be adapting our existing Lego pipeline to meet the creative requirements of several new films. Our global Pipeline team is responsible for creating software used by artists in craft departments such as Modelling, Rigging, Animation and Lighting, to assemble and manage complex workflows in a highly iterative pipeline.

We are looking for an experienced Lead Pipeline Developer to join the Pipeline team, working from our Vancouver studio.

As one of the first crew members in that facility, you will be pivotal in establishing the team, and will be involved in recruiting and mentoring. You will collaborate daily with production and technical personnel in both Vancouver and Sydney. You will also be involved in software design, reviewing code, and evolving development practices across multiple sites.

You will have experience in the visual effects/animation industry, and will ideally have previously lead small teams. You will have an excellent ability to communicate effectively with both technical and creative crew, and have demonstrated your capability to operate independently as well as within a larger team.

To be successful in this role you must have:
A Post-Secondary qualification in Computer Science or Engineering
Experience developing software in Python and C++
Minimum 5 years’ experience working with the APIs of industry standard applications such as Maya, XSI, Nuke, etc.
Knowledge of Rendering, Shading, CharFX, Linear Algebra and other related areas a plus
Experience with the full software development life cycle
Strong software design and engineering skills; familiarity with design patterns and their appropriate use
Good team spirit and ability to collaborate with artists and other developers in a deadline oriented environment
