Software Development Manager – Animal Logic Vancouver
Animal Logic, an award winning animation, visual effects and design studio is coming to Vancouver!
We are seeking an experienced Software Development Manager, who will establish the Software Department at our new Animal Logic studio in Vancouver. Your new role is to manage the software department, enabling a team of highly skilled developers to innovate their approach to software development via a deep collaboration with creative staff, providing creative artists with the necessary production tools to achieve their creative goals.
This position reports to the Head of Studio Operations, Vancouver and Director of Research and Development, Sydney.
Key responsibilities include:
Working with the Head of Studio Operations and Director of R&D to provide the technical tools and pipeline support, as well as extend the creative capability of the company
Facilitating a team of project CG Supervisors, Department Supervisors and core R&D Supervisors to identify, assess and plan development activities
Working with remote developers across multiple time zones while ensuring standard Animal Logic practices are followed
Working with R&D Leads in production systems, pipeline engineering and graphics tools
Monitoring tool operations with IT and the Sydney studio to ensure that the core tool infrastructure is operational and performant
Working with CG Supervisors to determine requirements and timing for new or enhanced tools based on the creative goals of each production
Establish processes for multi-site software development
Reporting on all tool development and operational issues to the Director of R&D and Vancouver production
Establishing and managing a team
Actively participating on the Vancouver leadership team through operational planning, development of company guidelines and policies, project bids, planning and driving the Vancouver culture
To be successful in this role you will have:
At least 10 years’ experience with software development in the same or similar industry
Experience working in multi-site, large software development teams, including two years’ experience in a people management role
Experience with a range of technologies and tools used in the CG industry
An understanding of the current state of modern software development practices and issues
An ability to communicate with stakeholders such as senior management, production management artists and developers
An understanding of the feature animation pipeline and key technologies, as well as the ability to work with existing development processes and codebase
A Bachelor degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related fields
Excellent communication, problem solving and influencing skills
