Stereographer

Everything will be awesome when you’re part of the team! Animal Logic – the studio that brought you The LEGO Movie – is looking for a Stereographer.

The Stereographer is responsible for supervising, defining and implementing the successful technical and creative execution of the final stereoscopic output for the film while working in collaboration with the CG Supervisor, Production and R&D. This is a full-time, contract role that reports to Artist Management.

Responsibilities Include:

Ensuring that the films Stereoscopic execution and its final output support are in alignment with the film director’s vision for the film and its narrative
Encouraging a broader awareness and understanding of stereoscopic techniques and opportunities to enhance the creative and narrative success of the film
When required, partner with the CG Supervisor, R&D, Systems and Production management team to efficiently schedule stereoscopic work to ensure production budgets, milestones and delivery expectations are met
Establish the depth script treatment for the film, including feedback regarding framing and staging with the Director, Layout Supervisor, and the Animation Director
Attend all stereoscopic reviews with the Director and crew as required providing technical and creative guidance as it relates to stereography
Work with related craft areas, including Layout, Animation, Editorial, FX and Lighting, to encourage a solid understanding and awareness of stereoscopic techniques, the opportunities it provides and potential technical challenges it may raise
Mentors their team to continually grow and learn by sharing their expertise and guidance.
Understands the overall brief and goals of a project and communicates this clearly to each member of the team
Delegates work responsibly to ensure successful completion of shots across team members of all skill levels

Requirements:

5 years minimum working on feature animation, VFX projects or TV Series in a senior position.
Previous experience leading successful stereoscopic teams on digital feature film or VFX projects
Previous experience working with large digital feature film production pipelines
Professional experience and understanding of 3D software packages used in digital film production, in particular Maya, XSI and Nuke
Expert knowledge of stereoscopic techniques and principles in a digital feature film environment
Knowledge and thorough understanding of the cinematographic process and layout as it applies to digital feature films and stereography
Ability to multi-task, prioritise and problem solve
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Ability to work towards, and meet, deadlines while under pressure
Excellent attention to detail
Highly developed English written and oral communication skills and the ability to connect with a wide variety of personalities

FX Artist

We are seeking an FX Artists to work on the LEGO ® 2 Movie, starting in October.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Understand the visual requirements for the film and in consultation with your Lead and Supervisor on procedures and techniques that will enable these to be met
Contribute creative feedback in reviews
Understand department pipeline including all assets and tools, and their purpose
Take direction from Supervisor and/or Lead to develop particle and fluid simulations
Take direction from Supervisor and/or Lead to develop techniques and rigs to achieve and optimize approved looks
Understand the processes of adjoining departments (e.g. Lighting and Compositing) and communicate with these departments as needed
Become proficient with the departments propriety tools

Requirements:

3 years’ experience on feature films, TV and/or animated feature
Experience in working on FX and simulations
Proven ability and experience in Houdini FX tools (Maya experience a Bonus)
Ability to craft Non Photoreal FX, from a creative brief
General understanding of traditional animation techniques, i.e. squash and stretch, anticipation, and key framing
Houdini: SOPs/DOPs/POPs essential
Houdini: Vex and Python knowledge desirable
Excellent problem solving skills and ability to meet deadlines with high quality output
Ability to efficiently organize and prioritize assigned tasks
Attention to design and artistic detail
Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment
Excellence in problem solving and balancing quick turnaround with long term quality.
Strong communication skills and the ability to efficiently organise and prioritise work across multiple areas

Complex and problem solving FX shot work
Houdini simulations
Any digital assets and setups you’ve contributed to, created or developed yourself
Any macro FX or miniature FX work a bonus!

Production Supervisor

The Production Supervisor is responsible for the supervision of all processes, procedures, outputs and deliverables for their respective department(s) and ensuring the outputs and interactions of those departments are aligned with production needs. This is a fulltime, contract role that reports to the Associate Producer and Production Manager.

Key Responsibilities include:

A Production Supervisor is assigned to a specific group of departments and is an integral part of the management structure of these teams
Assists the Production Manager and Associate Producer in assigning appropriate manpower and scheduling to ensure completion of their respective departments goals
Responsible for the day to day running of their department(s), establish and execute schedules through production planning, coordination and troubleshooting
Provides the department supervisors and artists with support to enable them to complete their work
Supervises Production Coordinators within their department(s)
Will work closely with other Production Supervisors to ensure that inventory moves smoothly from one department to the next
Uses and contributes to the ongoing development of tracking/reporting documentation and in house tracking systems
Completes special projects as needed or requested

Candidates with the following skills are encouraged to apply:
A minimum of 5 years’ experience working within a production team on VFX or Animated productions
Exceptional scheduling skills on CG animated/ VFX projects
Thorough understanding of live-action and CG based VFX workflows
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel; MS Projects a plus
Strong experience with database and production tracking software
3+ years’ experience supervising production staff
Sincere enthusiasm for facilitating the work of artists in high pressure environments
A passion for Animated projects
Ability to multi-task, prioritize and problem solve
Strong analytical skills
Strong administrative and organisational skills
Highly developed English written and oral communication skills and the ability to connect with a wide variety of personalities
An ability to remain focused on the big picture without losing track of the details
