Award winning CG studio Axis Animation is looking to hire an accomplished and highly motivated individual to undertake the role of Computer graphics Pipeline Supervisor as part of major operational expansion in 2014.

We’re looking for someone who can consult with a wide range of stakeholders whilst relying on their own skills and experience, to make technically informed, consensual decisions: An effective manager who can lead, motivate and communicate, forging a clear path forward focused on clear return on investment and greater effectiveness in terms of proficiency, efficiency, and quality.\r\nWe’re especially interested in hearing from candidates who have recent experience with game engines and real time rendering as well as more traditional ‘pre-rendered’ CG pipelines.The role is a permanent management level position, on site, in our brand new, purpose built Glasgow studio, and benefits include a private health care plan, and help with relocation if required. Glasgow is very much the creative hub of Scotland’s digital production industry, and as well as numerous bars, restaurants, cafes and a thriving cultural scene, offers easy access to some of Europe’s most stunning natural scenery.

Job Responsibilities:

Overall responsibility for evaluating, planning and managing ongoing Research and Development projects, that clearly meet strategic goals, within suitable timeframes and budgets. Supervising our in-house pipeline development team and various external contractors involved across current and new developments. Direct line management of personnel involved with pipeline and development – an ability to effectively manage and communicate is paramount. Evaluation and Implementation of studio wide capabilities and tools in conjunction with department supervisors and studio management. Working with project Producers and CG supervisors to evaluate requirements of incoming Client jobs and implement functionality as required. Preparation of appropriate technical documentation required for training, grants, or funding from external sources. Liaising with Studio management in the hiring of additional resources as required Please note that all candidates at time of application should have full working rights within the UK – ie UK/EU residents or hold an appropriate visa permitting them to work in the UK. It’s possible we may be able to obtain VISA’s for outstanding candidates from outwith the EU, but we cannot guarantee this.

Job experience needed:

We expect all applicants to be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Track record of supervising/managing technical development within a CGI context (games/VFX/animation)
Highly motivated, strategic thinker and technical problem solver with a strong sense of initiative, willing to take responsibility for delivering on agreed goals
An effective supervisor and manager, able to motivate and support teams of programmers, TD\’s and artists
Ability to technically breakdown, estimate and deliver work required to meet high level strategic goals
Effective task management, including tracking progress, staying within agreed timescales and budgets and reporting back to senior studio heads
Detailed and broad knowledge of CG pipelines and common 3D/CG application environments and/or game engine environments
Python programming
Fluent English (written and spoken)
Excellent communication skills
Post graduate at BA/BSc level

Desirable/preferred skills and experience:

Maya/Houdini (general production use and tools development)
Unreal/Unity/Cryengine (general production use and/or tools development)
C, C++ programming
MA or MSc level degree in an appropriate subject
Fluency with Mel/Ruby/PHP/other scripting languages
OpenGL/DirectX programming or application development
Database applications/familiarity with SQL
