Lead Desktop Support Technician

The Lead Desktop Support Technician will take ownership of the daily performance of the company’s Desktop Support team and service desk system. They will work with the Director of Technology to identify/prioritize current or potential desktop system requirements or issues to enable Bardel Entertainment’s Artists to complete their role effectively, with minimal downtime or disruptions.

In addition, the Lead Desktop Support Technician will be proactive in researching, analyzing and recommending new solutions to create efficiencies and improve desktop support operations. The Lead Desktop Support Technician will have a vital role in the development and management of the Desktop Support team. This position will also provide technical assistance, support and assist computer users with hardware and software questions.

What you will be doing:

Supervise desktop support technicians daily activities which include providing quality technical software/hardware desktop support with a high degree of customer service, technical expertise and timeliness.
Assign, prioritize and maintain Desktop Support team work schedules.
Monitor service desk queues and escalate trouble tickets to ensure problems are handled as expeditiously as possible.
Maintain and manage desktop inventory and asset management system.
Maintain and manage render farm hardware and software.
Ensure software environment consistency is maintained across all artist workstations and render farm machines.
Review the inventory levels of workstation equipment and accessories and submit purchasing requests as required on a regular basis.
Make recommendations for desktop support standards, guidelines and procedures to increase productivity, organization and efficiency.
Ensure user documentation for corporate, production management and freelance users are created and maintained.
Provide input into potential desktop system improvements in efficiency, reliability and performance.
Assist & mentor the desktop support team.

What you bring with you:

4+ years’ experience in system engineering and IT support, preferably within the M&E space
You have a proven track record of success in installation and maintenance of LINUX-based software.
You are experienced in creating automated scripts and software preferred.
You can lift heavy objects (approx. 25 lbs).
You have the ability and the desire to learn new technologies as required.
You have experience in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of relevant software packages including: Maya, Deadline, Houdini, Nuke, RV & other VFX-related packages and APIs.
You have experience with, and advanced understanding of, Windows, Mac OS X and Linux systems; virtualized environments.
Scripting language experience (eg. Powershell, Perl, Python).
Must be able to multi-task and maintain a positive attitude when working under pressure
Excellent time management & troubleshooting skills, capable of motivating and leading a team, with enthusiasm and clarity
Excellent communication skills and ability to work with people with various levels of technical proficiency
Ability to setup and upgrade computer systems in a networked environment with minimum end-user interruption
Experience administering user accounts (Active Directory) and mail systems (G Suite/Exchange)

Dev Ops Engineer

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

As a member of the Technology team, the Dev Ops Engineer is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation and stability of Linux-based servers and workstations, applications, and services in a heterogeneous CentOS, Windows 7/10, and OSX environment. Working in concert with the core pipeline and pipeline tools teams, the Dev Ops Engineer will support a 24/7 facility with 700+ workstations and servers and a render farm accessing Pixstor/Netapp/Cloud storage across multiple studios in a WAN environment.

The Dev Ops Engineer will work with the Lead Software Engineer and take direction from the Systems Manager and Director of Technology to implement solutions which will streamline process and improve production capabilities within the studio. They will bring forth innovative ideas to take Bardel Entertainment to the next level while maintaining stability and security requirements to ensure all production requirements are met.

What you will be doing:

Implement systems that are highly available, scalable, and self-healing
Liaise with core pipeline and pipeline tools departments to test and implement new initiatives
Test and modify systems and services to ensure that they operate reliably
Implement and manage continuous delivery systems and methodologies
Understand, implement, and automate security controls and governance processes for compliance
Define and deploy central monitoring, metrics, and logging systems for servers and render nodes
Design, manage, and maintain tools to automate operational processes
Create, update and deploy workstation, render node and server OS images
Create and implement test plans and deployments for major OS version release upgrades
Maintain and deploy operating system patches and updates
Troubleshoot, and optimize Linux servers and installed software
Validate patches, applications, and new software version releases against existing systems
Maintain and modify scripts and programs to support business processes.
Document system installations, configurations, policies and procedures.
Create and update documentation, including maintenance logs and end user training / onboarding
Perform upgrades and version management of 3rd party applications

What you bring with you:

Must have solid knowledge of and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in Linux/Unix administration. Linux Certification preferred (RHCE or equivalent)
Experience using LDAP integration with AD in a heterogeneous Windows/Linux environment
Experience using Kubernetes, Foreman, Puppet, Chef, Vagrant, Ansible for configuration management
Nagios, ganglia, LogStash, Elastic Search experience
Familiarity installing and maintain SQL databases (Mysql/Postgres)
Experience managing and configuring workstations to be accessed via zero client technologies
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization / VMWARE Hypervisors and ESX and Docker deployments
Familiarity with version control systems: Git, SVN, CVS, and Perforce:
Programming in Python, PHP, Perl, C++
Must be an enthusiastic self starter who works well in a team environment.
Ability to multitask while managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
Excellent verbal and written communication.
Strong interpersonal skills required.
Ability to quickly assess complex problems and make critical decisions to resolve them.
Experience with Security Control Audit requirements, file system security an asset
Experience with managing network switch management an asset
Experience in an Animation/VFX production environment preferred.
Occasional after hours and weekend work should be expected in this role to facilitate systems maintenance

Bardel is currently recruiting for a talented Pipeline TD to work collaboratively with our Emmy award winning studio team. This person would be reporting to the Pipeline Supervisor. Working closely with all Technology teams, this role is responsible for the successful creation of the company’s pipeline software tools, supporting Production in making technical decisions and general technical support throughout the production process.

What You Will Be Doing:

Integrating tools with existing in-house tools and code base
Creating documentation and tutorials for tools and integrations
Customizing existing scripted tools to suit the needs of the studio, projects, and artists
Working with artists, leads, and supervisors to implement ​solutions for production workflows
Collaborating with the Pipeline Developers and TDs to map out and optimize workflows and tool integration.
Developing tools in collaboration with the pipeline developers and studio coding standards
May train, mentor, or supervise the work of entry and mid level generalist artists
Research and recommend improvements to workflows to improve productivity or communication
Keep up to speed on current technology trends and tools both hardware and software
Provide weekly updates on Pipeline development status, and notifies stakeholders of any upcoming production risks

What you bring with you:

5+ years of experience in VFX or Animation
Degree or Relevant post-secondary education required
Knowledge of Maya, Nuke, Python and PyQT
Experience in developing libraries used by other TDs and software engineers
Experience with SQL, Shotgun, Deadline is an asset
Experience with at least one of the source control systems
Experience as a Pipeline TD preferred​
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Knowledge of up-to-date Production Technology/IT methods, practices, and trends
Excellent problem solving skills
Ability to juggle multiple projects and work under strict deadlines
