Lighting / Composition Artist

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

Position Overview:

The CG Lighting / Comp artist is responsible for creating and conceptualizing CG Lighting / Comp Sequences as required, which meet the aesthetic, creative, and technical quality stands of the production and in accordance with the production deadlines.

Deliverables and Responsibilities:

Demonstrate a broad range of Lighting / Comp abilities in a collaborative environment to conceptualize and create the overall look, attitude and style of the character and set Lighting / Composition.
Assist Supervisors in resolving technical issues and to develop tools, scripts, plug-ins and any other frameworks needed to streamline the Lighting / Comp process.
Exercise a keen eye for creative continuity as well as QC all rendered layers for technical errors. Work with supervisor to resolve any discrepancies as discovered.
Add 2D EFX as required working with 3D EFX artists to achieve EFX requirements.
Ensure all final composited scenes are output in accordance with the technical requirements of editorial and for the project, ensuring that all required layers are included in the final composition, using approved light rigs to match look of show.
Meets project deadlines and milestones, including weekly quotas, as set by Series Director / Episodic Director and the production department.
Demonstrates good written and verbal communication, and exhibits a collaborative, supportive approach to working with other team members.
Actively participates in team / department meetings. Consistently exercises sound judgment in all areas of performance.
Mentors and offers support to less experienced artists. Providing them with guidance and instruction in the area of department focus.

Required Skills & Experience:

Must have previous Film / TV production experience
Strong understanding of traditional Lighting / Comp techniques & principles
2D EFX experience
Good written and verbal communication skills
Positive work ethic an asset

Pipeline Developers ( All levels )

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Department: Technology
Type: Contracted to Full Time
Min. Experience: Mid Level

Reporting to the CTO, Pipeline Developers work on our Software Engineering team to design solutions for a wide variety of production departments from story development through lighting and rendering. Delivering pragmatic, efficient systems while making sure the underlying logic and data structures are robust, nimble and sustainable.
Critical to success in this role is an aptitude for working with technical and non-technical end users to understand their workflows and pain points and having the technical capacity to contribute at a hands on level to the development and support of the production technology toolset.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required

Design, build, and maintain software using a variety of languages, tools, and 3rd-party packages in a team environment
Familiarity of 1 or more of the following – Nuke, Maya, Mentalray, Vray, etc…
2-3 years of experience required for Intermediate roles
4+ years of experience required for Senior Roles
Experience with 1 or more of the following – Python, C++, PyQT, etc
A deep understanding of pipeline based workflows from start to finish including but not limited to production and delivery deadlines.
Excellence in problem solving
Must be detail oriented, organized, and able to handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.
Ability to handle high stress environments
Must be able to work well with a wide range of personality types

Additional Skills a plus:

Windows and Linux experience
Knowledge of relational database design and implementation
Development experience with digital media formats, media viewers and media architectures as related to the computer animation and/or visual effects production.
Degree in computer science
Familiarity with any other computer graphics related software not listed above
Understanding and experience with client-server and other multi-tiered system environments.

Technical Artist / TD Generalist

Location: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Department: Creative
Type: Full Time
Min. Experience: Experienced

Primary responsibilities:

• Using one or more 2D and 3D programs, blend technical and aesthetic
considerations to solve technical production issues
• Contribute to defining workflows, streamlining processes and developing tools/
frameworks for CG characters, sets and FX
• Work closely with the Art Director and Engineering/Technical Director in developing
innovative solutions and incorporating new technology
• Contribute to the development of budget and schedule for the technical, scripting,
tool portions of the project
• Strives to find solutions that maintain the required look of the production while
minimizing render times
• Ensure technical specifications are adhered to and contribute to the development of
those specifications
• Create documentation and tutorials relating to technical issues, and help train staff
on use and best practices
• Perform special tasks as assigned, including prototyping technical solutions or
completing production shots
• Meets project deadlines and production quotas as set by leads and production staff
• Communicates proactively and clearly and works collaboratively with all team
members.
