Asset Technical Director

Description

The Asset TD must proactively monitor and check both incoming and in-process assets as well as ensure that shots are moving smoothly throughout the RenderFarm. When issues are identified, they must proactively and in a timely fashion be debugged and addressed, and/or escalated to senior staff with detailed information and possible resolution scenarios. The role requires an equal combination of visual aesthetic and technical knowledge are a necessity, as well as a good understanding of CG production pipelines and the Modeling, texturing, animation, lighting, rendering and compositing steps involved.

Key Responsibilities:

Maintain technical integrity of art assets through the entire production process
May be required to contribute to the development and testing of Mel and Python scripts to implement solutions
Troubleshoot technical issues involving Maya Characters, animation, lighting and rendering automation tools
Follow up with stakeholders to ensure delivered solutions work as intended
Keep CG Supervisor, Production Coordinators, Department Leads and Directors up to date on outstanding issues and potential solutions
Respond to tickets requesting support and pipeline improvements while vetting all priorities with the CG supervisor
Regularly deliver written progress summaries
Identify, report and resolves technical rendering and/or composition errors or quality issues early in the schedule to reduce revisions
Ensure all shot files and output conform to Bardel shot file structure and naming conventions
Provide technical and debugging suprt for other team members and departments on asset and rendering issues
Submit and/or manage all shots within a production on the RenderFarm
Use the Tracker to document the current status of assets and shots in the pipeline
Liaise with other relevant departments to ensure established timelines and schedule will be met

Lighting/Comp Artist

Description

We are searching for brilliant Lighting/Comp Artists to join our amazing Vancouver studio team. Working collaboratively with the production team, you will be responsible for creating and conceptualizing lighting/comp sequences that meet the aesthetic, creative and technical quality in conjunction with the show’s established style and technical requirements.

What you will be doing:

Demonstrate a broad range of technical and creative abilities to effectively deliver the overall look, attitude and style of the character / set lighting and composition
Assist Supervisors in resolving technical issues and in developing tools, scripts, plug-ins and any other frameworks needed to streamline the lighting and compositing process
Exercise a keen eye for creative continuity as well as QC regarding potential technical errors
Be a proactive problem-solver when seeking resolution to production challenges
Adding 2D FX as required, working with 3D FX artists to achieve effects requirements
Ensure all final composited scenes are output in accordance with the technical requirements of editorial and for the project, ensuring that all required layers are included in the final comp, using approved light rigs to match the look of the show
Meet project deadlines and milestones, including weekly quotas, as set by Series Director / Episodic Director and the production department
Demonstrating a willingness to support less experienced artists, providing them with guidance and instruction in your areas of department focus

What you bring to the table:

TV / Film production experience a must
Prior experience with Maya and 3D compositing in Nuke
Strong understanding of traditional lighting and compositing techniques and principles
Solid technical background with ability to grasp new programs and systems quickly
Excellence communication skills and collaborative approach to working with others
High degree of self-direction and strong work ethic

Additional pluses:

Advanced technical computer animation knowledge such as lighting rigs, rendering, dynamics, and other related scripting and tool aspects
Background in traditional animation, visual arts and life drawing, with expertise in rendering hand-drawn effects and concept art
Experience with R&D requirements gathering and writing for production documentation and/or creating templates- technical and pipelines, art bibles, style guides, naming conventions
On-set lighting production or editing suite experience

Network/Systems Administrator

We are searching for a Network/Systems Administrator to join our growingKelowna studio team. You will be responsible for managing and maintaining all network infrastructure and related platforms for our Vancouver and Kelowna facilities. Working with the Systems Team in Vancouver, the Network / Systems Administrator will participate in systems infrastructure projects while maintaining core infrastructure in our Kelowna Studio.

What you bring to the table:

3+ as a System Administrator or Systems Engineer
Degree in Computer Science, IT or equivalent experience
Experience with network services and architecture ( DHCP, DNS, TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, WLAN, VPN, etc )
Experience managing and maintaining network infrastructure (Brocade, Juniper, HP Procurve, etc)
Strong knowledge of Linux ( Redhat, CentOS )
Experience with Microsoft Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP)
Experience with automated Deployment ( Windows and Linux )
Experience in heterogeneous computing environments
Excellent communication skills.

Additional pluses:

Knowledge of cloud computing (Openstack, GCP, AWS)
Knowledge of Vmware Esxi and KVM
Knowledge of storage technologies (Isilon, Avere)

Pipeline Technical Director

Description

We are searching for Pipeline TDs to join our Vancouver studio team. Reporting to the CTO, the Pipeline TD is responsible for the successful creation of the company’s pipeline software tools and supporting production in making technical decisions and general technical support throughout the production process.

What you will be doing:

Creation, maintenance and integration of new scripted tools with existing in-house tools and code base
Creation of documentation and tutorials for tools and integrations based on show requirements
Customization of existing scripted tools to suit the needs of the studio, projects, and artists
Provide help desk assistance to production for scripted tools
Collaborate with artists, leads, and supervisors to understand production workflow
Work in conjunction with Pipeline Designers, Developers, and TDs to map out and optimize workflows and tool integration; aid in all stages of production software and pipeline support
Research and recommend improvements to workflows to improve productivity and communication

What you bring to the table:

Industry experience within Animation, VFX or Film
Degree in Computer Science or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
Experience in software development on Windows and/or Linux
Previous experience with Python
Strong knowledge of Maya and Nuke

Additional pluses:

C++, Qt, PyQT, and database experience is a plus
Experience in Agile software development (Scrum, RUP, XP)
