3D Character Animator

Description

Do you love to explore a great story through expressive character movement? Have a remarkable grasp of weight, timing, lip sync and posing? We are in search of a talented 3D Character Animator who can conceptualize, create and execute quality animation sequences through an impressive proficiency with digital tools in a collaborative team setting.
Under the direction of the Lead Animator / Director, you will be tasked with meeting the show’s established style and technical requirements, maintaining a professional demeanour while taking direction, meeting production deadlines and adapting to shifting priorities.

What You Will Be Doing:

Demonstrating a broad range of 3D Animation proficiencies in conceptualizing and creating the overall look, attitude and style of the character animation
Possessing a solid working knowledge of CG animation technologies and necessary production environments and tools
Actively displaying confidence, ability and sound judgement in all areas of performance, such as immediately notifying supervisors regarding any technical or creative problems that may impact quotas or deadlines, and communicating solutions
Meeting assigned project quotas, deadlines and other objectives set forth by project leads and the production department
Mentoring less experienced artists and leading by example, providing support, guidance and instruction in areas that provide for artistic and professional growth
Actively participating in team and department meetings

What You Bring:

Must have TV / Film production experience
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Proficiency in Maya, Flash or Harmony
Online demo reel demonstrating your best work in bringing characters to life using motion and emotion

Pluses:

Background in traditional hand-drawn animation, visual arts and life drawing, with a solid grasp of movement and form
Experience with acting, live action or staging
Advanced technical computer animation knowledge such as dynamics, scripting and tools

FX Artist

Description

Position Overview:

The FX artist is responsible for creating and conceptualizing CG FX Sequences as required, which meet the aesthetic, creative, and technical quality standards of the production and in accordance with the production deadlines.

Deliverables and Responsibilities:

Demonstrate a broad range of FX abilities in a collaborative environment to conceptualize and create the overall look, attitude and style of the FX.
Actively promote and communicate sound solutions to technical and creative issues related to FX. Create natural and supernatural effects (ie, water, smoke, dust, lightning, bubbles, fire, storms, shadows, blurs, explosions, etc) to contribute to the character, location, or atmosphere, providing suggestions and recommendations on technique and elements in the context of the scene.
Maintain and communicate a strong knowledge of innovative FX animation technologies.
Be confident in your creative vision but flexible and open-minded to alternate ideas. Assist in creating an “FX Production Style Guide” as-needed.
Meets project deadlines and milestones, as set by Series Director / Episodic Director and the production department.
Demonstrates good written and verbal communication, and exhibits a collaborative, supportive approach to working with other team members.

Required Skills & Experience:

Must have demonstrable production experience to create smoke, water, fire, and electrical effects in a TV series context.
Must maintain high aesthetic quality with quick turnarounds using a mix of FX rigs and one-off FX using Maya with some RealFlow.
Animation / VFX experience preferred.

Lighting/Comp Artist

Description

Do you believe so strongly in effective lighting being a vital contribution to cinematic storytelling? Are you also detail-oriented to the point of minor obsession when it comes to compositing and effects integration? We are currently looking for a brilliant (get it?) Lighting and Compositing Artist to join us on an amazing production team.

What You Will Be Doing:

Working collaboratively with other artists and animators, demonstrating a broad range of technical and creative abilities to effectively deliver the overall look, attitude and style of the character / set lighting and composition
Assisting Supervisors in resolving technical issues and in developing tools, scripts, plug-ins and any other frameworks needed to streamline the lighting and compositing process
Exercising a keen eye for creative continuity as well as QC regarding potential technical errors, and being a proactive problem-solver when seeking resolution to production challenges
Adding 2D FX as required, working with 3D FX artists to achieve effects requirements
Ensuring all final composited scenes are output in accordance with the technical requirements of editorial and for the project, ensuring that all required layers are included in the final comp, using approved light rigs to match the look of the show
Meeting project deadlines and milestones, including weekly quotas, as set by Series Director / Episodic Director and the production department
Demonstrating a willingness to support less experienced artists, providing them with guidance and instruction in your areas of department focus

What You Bring:

Must have previous Film / TV production experience
Rock-solid understanding of traditional lighting and compositing techniques and principles
Strong technical background with ability to grasp new programs and systems quickly
2D FX experience
Demonstrating excellent written and verbal communication and a collaborative, supportive approach to working with other team members
High degree of self-direction and strong work ethic is an absolute must

Pluses:

Advanced technical computer animation knowledge such as lighting rigs, rendering, dynamics, and other related scripting and tools aspects
Background in traditional animation, visual arts and life drawing, with expertise in rendering hand-drawn effects and concept art
Experience with R&D requirements gathering and writing for production documentation and/or creating templates- technical and pipelines, art bibles, style guides, naming conventions
On-set lighting production or editing suite experience

Rigging Artist

Description

Do you have a masterful ability to create complex rigs which work like they’ve sprung from an animator’s dreams? Considered a highly collaborative, proactive problem-solver? We’re looking for a talented Rigging Artist to help us ensure the technical and creative success of all rigging requirements, while respecting the established look of the show and production deadlines.

What You Will Be Doing:

Developing character, prop and related rigging and frameworks (including skeletal system, skinning, workflows, and user interface) working in conjunction with the CG Supervisor and other department heads
Solving technical production issues, defining and streamlining CG character rigging workflows, pipelines and processes, developing tools and frameworks for CG characters and other related assets
Demonstrating a broad range of modeling abilities, including both high-poly and low-poly modeling techniques. Effectively manage and communicate technology constraints while delivering models in a variety of artistic styles – from realistic to cartoony, industrial to organic, character to architectural
Exhibiting complete mastery of professional development software tools required for modeling, texturing and rigging creation and implementation
Proactively troubleshooting and proposing solutions for technical production issues
Developing and documenting workflows, tools, scripts/plug-ins and best practices to enhance the productivity of animators
Participating in pre-production planning to determine and address technical design requirements and issues, creating documentation and tutorials relating to technical issues
Mentoring and offering support to less experienced artists, providing them with guidance and instruction relating to CG modeling, rigging and associated production processes

What You Bring:

Must have previous Film / TV rigging production experience
Strong technical background and scripting prowess (Maya, Python, MEL), with the ability to grasp new programs and systems quickly
Excellent command of human anatomy, volume and weight, dynamics and character motion
Superlative written and verbal communication skills and a collaborative, supportive approach to working with other team members

Pluses:

Background in traditional animation, visual arts and life drawing, with a solid sense of movement and form
Experience with R&D requirements gathering and authoring production documentation, creating templates, libraries and tools
Sound understanding of the animation process from storyboard to modelling to texturing, animation and rendering
Advanced, applied technical computer animation knowledge such as lighting rigs, rendering, dynamics, and other related scripting, interface and tools development

Animation Revisionist

Description

We have exciting opportunity for Animation Revisionist to join our growing team! In this position, you are responsible for revising animation sequences to meet the aesthetic, creative, and technical quality standards of the production. Aside from working alongside other talented artists, you will also be part of a very support team.

What you will be doing:

Review and adhere to the guidelines and instructions given by the Director and those set forth from the episodes which have already been completed.
Familiarize oneself with the corresponding episodic animation sequences.
Revise Animation sequences In House as-written insuring that any alternate suggestions have received prior approval from the Director while also implementing director notes and revisions.
Meet In-House project deadlines and milestones, including weekly quotas, as set by Director and the production department.
Demonstrates good written and verbal communication, and exhibits a collaborative, supportive approach to working with other team members.
Actively participates in team / department meetings.

What you will bring with you:

Must have TV / Film production experience
Strong understanding of traditional 2D animation principles
Bringing characters to life using motion and emotion
Proficiency in commonly used art software such as Photoshop and ToonBoom Harmony

CG Generalist

Description

We have an exciting opportunity for a CG Generalist position to join the Bardel family. As a CG Generalist, you will be doing hands-on modeling and rigging before animation takes place. This is a perfect position for someone who enjoys all aspects of CG and wanted to maintain yourself in the generalist area.

What you will be doing:

Demonstrate a broad range of CG art abilities in a collaborative environment to conceptualize and create the overall look, attitude and style of the character
Create rigging (including skinning) for a variety of characters and props
Demonstrate a broad range of modeling abilities, including both high-poly and low-poly modeling techniques.
Contribute and communicate technology constraints while creating models in a variety of artistic styles
Exhibit complete mastery of professional development software tools required for model, texture, rigging creation and implementation.
May mentor less experienced artists, providing them with support, guidance and instruction in areas that provide for their artistic and professional growth

What you will bring with you:

A minimum of 1 year experience in a similar capacity, preferably in the animation industry
Proficiency in commonly used software package such as Maya and Photoshop
Excellent communication skills, both in written and verbal
Proven track record of the ability to work under pressure and under tight deadlines
Display willingness to learn and being part of a very team-oriented environment
