Graphic Artist (Temp)

The Cinematics department is focused on creating industry-leading Cinematic content to support all of Blizzard’s titles, and is looking for a 2.5 D graphics artist to be dedicated to various projects throughout the Cinematics, and creative development departments. This person must have strong Maya, After Effects, and Photoshop experience, outstanding communication skills, and be highly organized. He / she must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects with tight deadlines, while acting as a calming influence to help the team stay on target.

This person will be responsible for using existing art assets to create inspired animated 2 ½ D graphics, motion graphics, simple animations, and transition effects. This person will be working closely with a small team; a director, a producer, and various cinematic artists to develop and execute a high volume of exciting new content.

He / she must be able to operate with varying degrees of supervision, taking ownership when needed while remaining flexible to collaboration and iteration. They must also be able to organize and optimize comps to streamline render times, generate necessary types of footage for editorial, interpret and execute notes with minimal follow up, all while maintaining strong communication with the rest of the Cinematics department.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of Maya, including modeling, rigging, animation, and simulation
Strong knowledge of Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop, as well as other Adobe Creative Suite software and applicable plug-ins
Excellent sense of timing and camera composition
Critical eye for color, art, and animation
Able to iterate quickly and openly
Able to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and different work methodologies
Highly self-motivated with excellent communication skills
Able to work well under tight deadlines and quick project turnover
Able to work closely with multiple directors, producers, editors, and other team members
Able to troubleshoot and solve problems independently

Knowledge of and passion for Blizzard’s game worlds and the stories told within them
Knowledge and experience using camera capture systems

Motion Graphics Artist

The video and post-production team within the Cinematics department is focused on creating industry-leading video content to support all of Blizzard’s titles and is looking for a motion graphics artist to be dedicated to Heroes of the Storm and Starcraft II. This person must have strong title design and After Effects experience, outstanding communication skills, and be highly organized. He / She must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects with tight deadlines, while acting as a calming influence to help the team stay on target.

This person will be responsible for using existing art assets to create inspired motion effects, simple animations, transition effects, and animated lower-thirds and logo bumpers. This person will be working closely with a small team; a video editor, a producer, and capture artists to develop and execute a high volume of exciting new content. This person may also be providing on-air graphics content for live web broadcasts and live-to-tape web shows, working with our live broadcast team to raise the industry quality bar.

He / she must be able to operate with varying degrees of supervision, taking ownership when needed while remaining flexible to collaboration and iteration. They must also be able to organize and optimize comps to streamline render times, generate necessary types of footage for editorial, interpret and execute notes with minimal follow up, all while maintaining strong communication with the rest of the larger video and post-production team.

This position is located at our Irvine, CA studio.

Requirements

A minimum of 5 years’ professional motion graphics experience in a film, animation, television, or videogame cinematics environment
Mastery of Adobe After Effects, as well as other Adobe Creative Suite software and applicable plug-ins
Excellent sense of timing and camera composition
Critical eye for color, art, and animation
Able to iterate quickly and openly
Knowledge of current industry-standard post-production workflows and organization
Able to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and different work methodologies
Highly self-motivated with excellent communication skills

Environment Modeler (Cinematics – Temp)

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a well-rounded temporary 3D environment artist to work with its award winning pre-rendered Cinematics team. This artist must have skills to work well within a team and be able to make solid decisions with regards to asset creation and design. This person will be responsible for learning our pipeline and creating assets that work cleanly within the pipeline with minimal supervision. The ideal candidate is self-motivated, has a “do whatever it takes” attitude, and continuously seeks to improve their skills and abilities with regards to 3D asset creation.

This is a temporary position at our Irvine, CA studio.

Requirements

Able to model and sculpt amazing hard-surface and organic 3D assets with or without concepts
Interpret direction with ease
Efficient and clean UVW mapping and mesh retopology skills
Excellent design and compositional skills
Self-motivation, good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude
Able to filter and evaluate criticism on a professional level
Understand the downstream teams pipeline/workflow
Maintain production schedule, and / or communicate any concerns

Candidates should have extensive experience working with modeling / sculpting tools to achieve photorealistic characters. The candidate must be organized and creative, with the ability to solve problems efficiently.

This is a temporary position at our Irvine, CA studio.

Responsibilities

Take on the high profile assets.
Monitors work, checking on progress, as well as the methods used to achieve results.
Readily gives artist both positive and negative constructive feedback regarding job performance.
Regularly give technical feedback of tool / pipeline / workflow to tech teams.
