Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled temporary 2D artist to assist the creative development team. This artist will be focused on creating awe-inspiring artwork for all of Blizzard Entertainment’s intellectual properties. The ideal candidate has extensive experience creating digital illustrations in a variety of different visual styles. A solid grasp of foundational art skills, color theory, human and creature anatomy, design theory and Blizzard Entertainment’s IPs are essential. The creative development artist must have expert command of Photoshop or an equivalent painting program. The perfect candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about creating awesome art, takes constructive criticism very well, and can hit deadlines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create high profile illustrations for Blizzard Entertainment’s IPs for a variety of purposes including magazine covers, novel covers, and marketing and promotional materials.
Occasionally create concept and in-game art for Blizzard Entertainment’s development teams.
Work with the creative development producer to complete tasks by the assigned due dates.
Work with the creative development art lead to achieve the necessary final image quality.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience creating digital art in a professional environment
Strong foundational skills including anatomy, color theory, composition, etc.
Understanding of the visual style of Blizzard Entertainment’s IPs and a passion to push them to the next level
Experience working with an art director on a unique and cohesive visual style, with the versatility to work in a variety of styles
Able to understand and incorporate requests for revisions
Self-motivated, good communication skills, and a great team player with a can-do attitude

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 8 years’ professional Web focused graphic design experience.
Exceptional design, artistic, typographic, layout, and compositing abilities that you are eager to unleash upon Blizzard web products
Proficiency using Adobe Creative Suite (specifically Photoshop and Illustrator)
Strong ability and passion to collaborate in large multidisciplinary teams
Good understanding of the technical foundations upon which websites are built (HTML, CSS, Javascript, etc.)

Motion Graphic Artist

CINEMATICS

The video and post-production team within the Cinematics department is focused on creating industry-leading video content to support all of Blizzard’s titles and is looking for a motion graphics artist to be dedicated to Heroes of the Storm and Starcraft II. This person must have strong title design and After Effects experience, outstanding communication skills, and be highly organized. He / She must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects with tight deadlines, while acting as a calming influence to help the team stay on target.
This person will be responsible for using existing art assets to create inspired motion effects, simple animations, transition effects, and animated lower-thirds and logo bumpers. This person will be working closely with a small team; a video editor, a producer, and capture artists to develop and execute a high volume of exciting new content. This person may also be providing on-air graphics content for live web broadcasts and live-to-tape web shows, working with our live broadcast team to raise the industry quality bar.
He / she must be able to operate with varying degrees of supervision, taking ownership when needed while remaining flexible to collaboration and iteration. They must also be able to organize and optimize comps to streamline render times, generate necessary types of footage for editorial, interpret and execute notes with minimal follow up, all while maintaining strong communication with the rest of the larger video and post-production team.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 5 years’ professional motion graphics experience in a film, animation, television, or videogame cinematics environment
Mastery of Adobe After Effects, as well as other Adobe Creative Suite software and applicable plug-ins

Critical eye for color, art, and animation

Senior User Experience Designer (Austin)

We are looking for a senior UX designer who is oozing with curiosity but can still fit their head in the door for our Austin office. If selected, you will create and support solutions for our gamers mostly with our customer service (CS) group which includes touching Battle.net, the support site, and the Warcraft game site. Your main goal would be to increase player satisfaction through customer service and increase the CS team’s efficiency. As the main point of contact for UX in our Austin office, this opportunity will favor someone who can build relationships in Austin and in our Irvine headquarters while still having an entrepreneurial spirit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Understand what our users are doing and why – analytics, competitive analysis, and support research team.
Define problems and opportunities – analysis of our users and reps combined with our business needs that you’ll form into stories.
Create stuff to show the solutions – wireframes, flowcharts, prototypes, feature matrices, strategy, designs, constraints, oh my.
Iterate based on “validated learning” – more flowcharts, wires, designs, and collaborate with research team for usability.
Deliver and follow through – launch your ideas which means working from kickoff through development and getting sign-off along the way (e.g. final wires and flows, specs, use cases, error states) and doing post launch analysis.

The concept artist has to have a playful imagination coupled with a high degree of artistic skill. They’ll be expected to take a seed of an idea and flush out all aspects of the design. This may include a small prop, to a full culture kit all the way to a mood painting that defines the emotional intent of an environment. The role requires a strong sense of caricature, design, color theory, human anatomy, architecture and the ability to push the Wow style.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 5 years’ experience creating concept artwork for animation, film, or videogames
Able to explore a wide variety of ideas that push the Wow style
Able to produce final illustration quality production paintings
Collaborate closely with the art director to keep a consistent vision
