3D Weapons Artist

The way the light catches every nick and battle scar on a well-worn assault rifle or the mysterious, intricate engraving on an ancient sword pommel, each subtle nuance helps to create a truly rich and inviting world.
As a weapon artist you will lovingly hand craft each little detail found in the weapons and equipment for Blizzard’s next epic game title.
Your passion as an artist and a gamer will propel you into the thick of development. Exceptional understanding of hard surface modeling, lighting, form, and color will allow you to work side-by-side with concept and character artists to outfit amazing creations with even more phenomenal war gear. Your experience as a gamer will come in handy as you jam on new game-play concepts with designers, ensuring your badass implements of destruction play as good as they look.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create both high resolution 3D sculpts and final low polygon game assets.
Couple hand painted textures and next-gen materials for use in game engine.
Iterate on game assets with production artists via prototyping and group critiques.

REQUIREMENTS

Minimum of 3 years’ experience in game development as an artist specializing in weapons, mechanical or vehicle modeling using Maya, Photoshop, Zbrush, or Mudbox
Exceptional understanding of next generation asset creation pipelines and tools
Expertise in hard surface modeling techniques for use in creating complex mechanical objects such as weapons and vehicles
Superior eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps
Self-motivation, good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude
Able to work creatively as part of a large or small group
Proven problem-solving / prototyping ability
Able to effectively collaborate with game designers and programmers
Understanding of the visual style of Blizzard games and a passion to push it to the next level
A passion for video games

PLUSES

Have shipped an AAA PC or console title as a 3D artist specializing in equipment, weapons or vehicles
Experience in creating visual designs that support gameplay oriented goals
Skill in one or more related disciplines – illustration, animation, visual effects, or technical art

Assistant Technical Designer

STARCRAFT II

The StarCraft II team is looking for a talented assistant technical designer with a strong technical background to help the UI team work on StarCraft II multiplayer and campaign features. The ideal candidate must be able to collaborate with design, engineering, and art groups to efficiently and creatively configure data.

REQUIREMENTS

Strong technical or engineering background
Able to communicate effectively with regards to design ideas and implementation, as well as on a technical level with engineers
Able to do scripting and use triggers in a game toolset
Able to work well in a team environment
Absolute passion for playing and making computer games, especially game styles relevant to StarCraft II

PLUSES

Experience creating levels using an RTS game editor, such as the StarCraft II editor, Warcraft III editor, or equivalent
Previous UI layout or development work
Knowledge of programming languages
Strong sense for what makes a game or level fun to play
Have experience working as a level designer in the games industry
Published RTS maps from a shipping game or created and distributed maps for the mod / fan community

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in action real-time strategy (ARTS) games, be a fierce competitor in both ARTS and RTS games, have a strong aptitude for critical thinking and analysis, outstanding people skills, and a longstanding passion for playing video games.

User Experience Designer

We are looking for a user experience (UX) designer to join our World of Warcraft (WoW) tools team to do exactly that!
We need your help to build the best game development tool our artists, engineers, and designers. Through research, design, testing, and iteration, you will be involved in all phases of the user-centered design process.
You’ll be working on the game design tools that the WoW team uses to build WoW. You will collaborate with design, art, and engineering teams to design programs and workflows so that the WoW team can have the most epic tools, anywhere.
Our team is intensely collaborative. You must be someone who embodies the philosophy that good UX design centers around people, and that our goal is about getting things right for our users, not about just getting things done.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Help better understand users – Conduct qualitative and quantitative user research; create personas, analytics, and process flows.
Collaborate – Work closely with a team of tools engineers, quality assurance, artists and designers on World of Warcraft to guide UX design from start to finish of a project.
Communicate Designs – Create meaningful UX deliverables such as storyboards, sitemaps, wireframes, flowcharts, prototypes, and presentations that help the team understand what to build.
Iterate – Revise and improve designs based on user feedback, research, tech constraints, and business decisions.
Deliver – Drive and support your ideas all the way through the successful launch of a project.

REQUIREMENTS

A degree in design, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, human factors or related field
A minimum of 4 years’ experience as a UX designer, information architect, visual designer, interaction designer, user interface designer, or similar role
End-to-end design of large-scale projects for heavily used game tools and / or graphical productivity software
Proven knowledge of desktop application design trends, patterns, usability, and best practices
Experience designing applications for expert users with job-specific domain knowledge
Serious passion for user-centered design and demonstrated knowledge of information architecture, usability, accessibility, and interaction design
Experience creating wireframes, low-fidelity and high-fidelity interactive prototypes using standard tools of the design trade (ex: Visio, Axure, Photoshop, Omnigraffle)
Proven capability to work on multidisciplinary project teams
Able to handle changing priorities throughout a product life cycle
Excellent communications and presentation skills
