As an environment artist on Blizzard’s next groundbreaking game, you’ll inject character into environments by creating art that brings them to life in a way that is both detail oriented and consistent with the handcrafted art styles that our games are known for.
Knowledge of Blizzard’s unique shape language and liberal use of color will allow you to work collaboratively with a team of highly skilled artists and designers to breathe life into the world. Your broader experience with game development and building well designed levels will help you work collaboratively with level designers to ensure that you are always putting gameplay first when it comes to developing strong, fun areas to play in.
In short, you’ll be part of a close-knit, collaborative community of artists, engineers, and designers whose sole goal is to make a truly immersive game experience.

So, what will be your responsibilities in this role?

Using concept art inspiration to create game assets that make our environments come alive.
Using next-gen materials and pipelines to forge assets for use in the game engine.
Iterate on game assets with production artists via prototyping and group critiques.
Oh, you can do that in your sleep, you say? What are the requirements, you ask?
A minimum of 1 years’ experience in game development as an artist specializing in hard surface, props, or organic modeling using Maya, Photoshop, or 3DS Max
Exceptional understanding of next generation asset creation pipelines and tools
An exceptional understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regard to modeling
Superior eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps
Self-motivation, good communication skills, and a great team-player attitude
Able to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary art team to help bring environments to life within the vision of the game design

Proven problem-solving / prototyping ability

Able to effectively collaborate with game designers and programmers
Understanding of the visual style of Blizzard games and a passion to push it to the next level
Have shipped AAA PC or console titles as an environment artist
A passion for video games

Experience in creating visual designs that support gameplay oriented goals
Skill in one or more related disciplines – illustration, animation, visual effects, or technical art
Experience in working with outsource art studios and other external vendors
Experience and a passion for stylized, handcrafted art style
Generalist environment art abilities – Eg: experience with lighting, organics, architecture, animation
Good technical chops and the ability to quickly master new pipelines and tools

VFX Artist

DIABLO III

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled VFX Artist to work on all things Diablo. Our ideal candidate has extensive experience working with 3D packages, in-game VFX systems to create a wide range of VFX (fire, smoke, explosions, etc.), as well as a general understanding of good game play communications. Essential skills include a solid grasp of the principles of motion, anticipation, dynamics, follow-through, and other facets of animation. The VFX Artist must also have skill in creating textures and geometry needed for stylized VFX backed by related tools expertise – Photoshop, After Effects, Maya, etc.

The ideal candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about Diablo, making great games, killing demons, and getting loot!

REQUIREMENTS

Experience creating brilliant, eye catching real-time VFX using Photoshop, Maya, and in-game VFX systems
Strong grasp of visual design principles used to create stylized, compelling VFX
Able to paint VFX textures from scratch and match an established style
High degree of proficiency with 3D graphics, particle systems, physics, ribbons, shaders, etc.
Solid knowledge of rendering engines
Self-motivated, humble, excellent communications skills, and a legendary team-player attitude
A minimum of 4 years’ creating real-time special VFX for video games

PLUSES

Previously shipped AAA PC or console titles in an equivalent type role
Scripting experience in Lua, Python, etc.
Experience creating and using real-time shaders
2D or 3D animation experience
Strong passion for developing games
Knowledge and understanding of the Diablo universe

3D In-Game Artist

CINEMATICS

Blizzard’s In-Game Cinematics team is looking for a 3D Artist to help us tell the stories of the World of Warcraft. In our small-team environment, this position will be tackling a wide variety of artistic tasks. The primary focus will be on creating FX (both 2D and 3D), cleaning up game models, and painting textures, but may also include creating new models, motion graphics, compositing, and lighting. We need someone who is enthusiastic, knows and loves the art of WoW, and enjoys creating in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in game development modeling and texturing 3D assets using 3DS Max and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs)
A minimum of 2 years’ experience creating spectacular game engine FX
Experience with creating 2D FX in After Effects or equivalent software
An understanding of anatomy, form, and silhouette in regard to character modeling
Superior eye for light, shade, color, and detail in painting stylized texture maps
Able to create art in the distinct World of Warcraft style
Self-motivated, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitude
Able to take direction from show and department leads while matching an existing style
An impressive demo reel showing off your amazing art skills

PLUSES

Have shipped at least one AAA PC or console title as a 3D artist or FX artist
Experience with Mudbox, ZBrush, or equivalent modeling program and the process of converting high-poly sculpted models into lower poly game assets
Strong foundation in the traditional arts, including figure drawing and painting
Experience creating motion graphics in After Effects of equivalent software
Has multiple level 80+ characters in the World of Warcraft

Associate Technical Designer

HEROES OF THE STORM

The Heroes of the Storm team is looking for a talented, support-minded technical designer with a strong technical background and experience building systems using any popular real-time strategy (RTS) game toolset (StarCraft II editor, Warcraft III world editor, etc). The ideal candidate must be able to communicate effectively and collaborate with both the design, engineering, and art groups in order to manage the technical aspects of the game.

REQUIREMENTS

Possess a strong technical or engineering background
Able to communicate effectively with regards to design ideas and implementation, as well as on a technical level with engineers and artists
Experience creating levels using an RTS game editor such as the StarCraft II editor, Warcraft III editor, or equivalent
Knowledge of programming languages like C, C++, etc.
Experience with scripting and markup languages (Python, Lua, XML, etc.)
Able to do scripting and use triggers in a game toolset
Able to work well in a team environment
Strong attention to detail
Absolute passion for playing and making computer games, especially RTS games

PLUSES

Understanding object oriented programming paradigm
Great sense for what makes a game or level fun to play
Have experience working as a level designer in the games industry
Published RTS maps from a shipping game or created and distributed maps for the mod / fan community
Able to script interesting cinematic sequences using in-game art
