Environment Artist

HEROES OF THE STORM

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled 3D environment artist to work on our upcoming new game, Heroes of the Storm. The ideal candidate has extensive experience designing, modeling, and texturing a diverse visual range of in-game, real-time environments and props. From awesome critters, alien cities or ancient shrines, this person has a solid grasp of form, color, and lighting for both 2D and 3D art assets to help bring our amazing Blizzard universes to life. The 3D artist must also have a skill in another art task as well (illustration, modeling, texturing, animation, FX or concept drawing).

REQUIREMENTS

A passion for video games
Self-motivation, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitude
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in game development modeling, and texturing 3D assets using 3DS Max, and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs)
An exceptional understanding of form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regard to modeling
Superior eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating texture maps of different material types
Understanding of Blizzard’s visual style, and a passion to push it to the next level

PLUSES

Have shipped AAA PC, or console titles, as a 3D environment artist
Experience with Mudbox, ZBrush, (or equivalent modeling programs) and the process of converting high-poly sculpted environments into lower poly game assets
Experience with the creation of next-gen shaders, and materials
Strong foundation in the traditional arts including, but not limited to figure drawing, and environmental, and /or architectural illustration

RESPONSIBILITIES

Drive the completion of project goals and facilitate communication, organization, and accountability across all departments.
Own the development of both daily and long-term scheduling.
Manage the daily tracking of your team’s tasks and ensure that delivery schedules are maintained and adjusted accordingly.
Identify and communicate roadblocks that may prevent developers from achieving established goals.
Work with team leads to determine project resource needs.
Help make informed decisions in conjunction with team leads on work methods and development pipeline.
Provide motivation and direction to ensure that project goals, objectives, milestones, and deliverables are achieved.
Communicate frequently with the producers and team leads on project status, risks, and opportunities.
Support information sharing and communications on the team via meetings, syncs, taking and sharing notes, documentation, and getting people connected.
Provide mentoring and guidance for junior production staff.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a production role
Able to communicate effectively with programming, art, design, and business personnel
Experience delivering products on time, and a reasonable familiarity with engineering disciplines
Expert knowledge of software development process and project management
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
Able to facilitate and mediate between members of the development and support teams
Unrelenting self-motivation and initiative
Passion for video games

PLUSES

Knowledge of Real-Time Strategy (RTS) and Team Brawler style games; played through StarCraft II campaigns
Experience shipping one or more games in a production role, especially AAA multiplayer games
Experience producing engineers or an engineering team
Degree in Computer Science or related field

Senior 3D Character Artist

WORLD OF WARCRAFT

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled senior 3D character artist to join the World of Warcraft team. The ideal candidate has experience modeling and texturing a diverse visual range of characters and creatures. A solid grasp of form, structure, color, and light for both 2D and 3D art assets is essential.
The senior artist will work closely with the character art lead to push the art style and quality to the next level. They will offer mentorship and guidance to junior members of the team. The ideal candidate works well in an environment with peers who are passionate about making great games.
The senior character artist must be skilled in additional forms of art production as well — illustration, animation, concept drawing — and be well-versed in related tools –3ds Max, Photoshop, etc.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 4 years’ experience in game development modeling and texturing characters using 3ds Max and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs)
An exceptional understanding of human and creature anatomy and a keen eye towards form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regards to modeling
Superior eye for light, shade, color and detail in creating texture maps
Self-motivation, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitude
Advanced skill in two or more of the related creation tasks – illustration, modeling, texturing, animation, and concept drawing

PLUSES

Have shipped multiple AAA PC or console titles as a 3D character artist
Strong foundation in the traditional arts, including but not limited to figure drawing and illustration
A passion for developing online games
Understanding of the visual style of World of Warcraft and a passion to push it to the next level

Technical Artist

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a technical artist to work on the newest installment of our award-winning real-time strategy (RTS) game, StarCraft II and the all new action game Heroes of the Storm. The focus will be on bringing our game characters and models to a finished state from both a technical and performance perspective. Responsibilities include rigging, performance optimizations, and general bug-fixing of in-game assets. The ideal candidate has thorough knowledge of 3ds Max with an interest in, and technical understanding of, optimizing 3D models, animations, and shaders.

REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge of rigging in 3D content creation software, such as 3ds Max, Maya, or XSI
Strong technical background and a positive attitude
Detail-oriented and efficient
High self-motivation and initiative
Able to communicate and coordinate between internal teams
A desire for helping others and to improve art content pipeline

PLUSES

Working knowledge of 3ds Max
Understanding of GPU shaders
Knowledge of MaxScript or Python
Modeling and animation skills in 3D content creation software
Documentation writing for art pipeline
Previous game production experience
