The Battle.net user experience (UX) team is seeking a highly motivated, positive, and experienced UX design manager to support the Battle.net design group as a whole and the various roles within the team. This position encompasses partnering with our design leads and managers to help improve our team of talented visual designers, user experience designers, researchers, and editors. You will help facilitate career development, be a champion for team health, and provide personal and team coaching to help our team hit their full potential. You will also help define and reinforce department standards, help hire and onboard new employees, and encourage and realize training opportunities to ensure folks are contributing their best efforts to the team.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop and manage interpersonal relationships within the team; know their personalities, strengths, and weaknesses.
Drive the creation of individual professional development plans for the entire design staff and be able to follow through on progress.
Responsible for leveling up the communications, presentation, and collaboration skills of the design team.
Identify team health related issues, represent these issues to department leaders and spearhead team health initiatives.
Partner with leads and managers to provide coaching and counseling to the team.
Facilitate regular 1on1’s and career discussions.
Partner with production and department leads with work assignment suggestions.
Regularly schedule and execute department meetings.
Plan and execute relevant training, conferences, and events for design team.
Seek collaborative resolution to both intra- and inter- team conflicts.
Facilitate the recruiting process by assisting design leads with resumes, phone screening, and interviews while proactively seeking new avenues for recruiting designers.
Partner with production in the documentation, evolution, and reinforcement of department processes, practices, and principles.
Contribute to a positive work environment while promoting the design culture and Blizzard Entertainment’s “Learn & Grow” core value.
Provide management coaching for other designers with management responsibilities.
Ensure high team quality of life with respect to tools and resources.

REQUIREMENTS

Passion for leveling up others
A minimum of 5 years’ experience in coaching and mentoring creative
Experience hiring others
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills
Exceptional attention to detail and follow-up
Experience with staffing and team building
Good cross-disciplinary communications experience between engineering, production, and design
Experience with software development process
Unrelenting self-motivation and initiative
Approachable, relaxed, and friendly demeanor

PLUSES

Degree in management, design, or equivalent professional training
Experience in visual, user experience, or web design fields
Knowledge of various project management methodologies and practices

Senior Web Graphic Designer

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an experienced passionate and talented web graphic designer to join its digital marketing team in Europe. This person will be responsible for creating animated, interactive web designs for the World of Warcraft, Starcraft II, Diablo III, and Battle.net web sites and applications using Html5 / CSS3.
The ideal candidate is an accomplished web designer / art director with a good understanding of front-end integration and web design who can successfully combine their own design style with the visual aesthetics of Blizzard games, to create stunning graphical layouts and user interfaces used by millions of players worldwide. Experience mentoring web designers and front-end coders is a distinct advantage.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Determines artistic direction for various projects.
Create and localize visual content updates for Blizzard games sites, Battle.net, and related web-based applications.
Help grow and develop the digital marketing team through mentoring team members.
Responsible for meeting and contributing to key web project milestones.
Create promotional assets, animated banners, email templates, for online campaigns and marketing actions.
Participate in the deployment of visual updates or upgrades, in cooperation with quality assurance, web administrators, front-end coders, and the US based web development team.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 5 years’ work experience in web design
Expertise in Adobe Photoshop
Exceptional graphic-design skills and artistic sense
Familiar with User Interface / User Experience concepts
Proven background in creating websites using HTML5 / CSS3
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Fluency in English

PLUSES

Previous experience in a leadership role in a creative / design agency environment
In-depth knowledge and passion of Blizzard Entertainment games

The UX designer will collaborate with a variety of teams (customer service, game development, etc.) to design solutions that meet strategic business objectives while also creating a useful, intuitive, and epic experience for our users.
This role is best suited for someone who embodies the philosophy that UX design is centered around people, and that our goal is about getting things right for our users, not about just getting things done.
Through research, design, testing, and iteration, the UX designer will be involved in all phases of the user-centered design process.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Help better understand users – Conduct qualitative and quantitative user research; create personas, analytics, process flows.
Collaborate – Work closely with a team of stakeholders, business systems analysts, developers, and designers to guide UX design from start to finish of a project.
Communicate Designs – Create meaningful UX deliverables such as storyboards, sitemaps, wireframes, flowcharts, prototypes, presentations that help the team understand what to build.
Iterate – Revise and improve designs based on user feedback, research, tech constraints, business decisions.

REQUIREMENTS

End-to-end design of large-scale projects for heavily used desktop applications (CRM / customer service tools, enterprise / productivity software, etc.)
Proven knowledge of desktop application design trends, patterns, usability, and best practices
Experience designing applications for expert users with job-specific domain knowledge
Serious passion for user-centered design and demonstrated knowledge of information architecture, usability, accessibility, interaction design
Experience creating wireframes, low-fidelity and high-fidelity interactive prototypes using standard tools of the design trade (ex: Visio, Axure, Photoshop, Omnigraffle)
Proven capability to work on multidisciplinary project teams
Able to handle changing priorities throughout a product life cycle
Excellent communications and presentation skills
A degree in design, human-computer interaction, cognitive science, human factors or related field

User Interface Designer
