Senior Layout Artist

Irvine – California , United States

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented senior layout artist to join our team in creating the next generation of our award-winning cinematics!

RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for creating sequences of CG shots that convey the story-line, ensuring the vision of the director and layout supervisor.
Tracks shots and their progress throughout the layout process and along the pipeline to final render.
Interact with production, supervisors, and team / peers in order to problem solve and share information related to shows and assigned tasks.
Accountable for meeting schedules and show deadlines; participates in dailies, rounds, and team reviews of work in progress.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 3 years’ layout experience in visual effects production, CG feature animation production, or related medium
Extensive experience in determining camera composition, lens, angles and movement and a strong understanding of the principles of story-telling, cinematography, art and film.
Experience working with storyboards / sketches / previs, and the ability to translate these into a 3D production-ready sequence of shots
Advanced proficiency in Maya or equivalent 3D package
Proficiency in scripting, preferably python and programming
Demonstrates a sophisticated understanding of Renderman and experience with troubleshooting renders
Able to work efficiently independently or as part of a team to determine various design solutions
Excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work under tight deadlines
Able to multi-task and work efficiently in a collaborative multi-user environment
Excellent verbal and written communications skills
Demonstrates the maturity and self-direction of a seasoned production artist

PLUSES

Pre-visualization experience
Modeling, lighting, texturing, and / or animation experience in CG production strongly desired
Knowledge of Blizzard’s games, cinematics, lore and visual styles

Character Rigger

CINEMATICS
Irvine – California , United States

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a motivated and experienced character rigger to join its award winning cinematics department. The ideal candidate would be a highly motivated artist who has built rigs and is capable of maintaining a high level of visual and technical quality for all characters. He / she must have an understanding of anatomy, muscles, cloth / hair behavior and be familiar with a scripted environment. Experience with simulation rigs and directable shot sims for hair and cloth are a bonus. This artist must be attuned to the needs of a production pipeline and those of the animators we support. Our team works in an intensely art driven environment and the candidate must be able to work collaboratively with other departments including modeling, animation, FX, and lighting.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 3 years’ experience rigging characters in Maya
Knowledge of character kinematics, deformations, and topology
Knowledge of character pipeline and workflow techniques
Experience in Python
Proficiency in technical problem solving

PLUSES

History of generating cloth / hair rigs and create art directed shot simulations
Some knowledge of layout, modeling, rigging, simulations, and animation tools and workflows currently used in the industry
Strong communications skills
Knowledge on subjects such as Maya tool development and pipeline design
Able to generate tools to facilitate the rigging and simulation pipeline
Passion for Blizzard games and cinematics

2.5D Graphics Artist

CINEMATICS
Irvine – California , United States

The cinematics department is focused on creating industry-leading cinematic content to support all of Blizzard Entertainment. We’re looking for a 2.5 D graphics artist to be dedicated to various projects throughout the cinematics and creative development departments. This person must have strong Maya and Nuke experience, outstanding communications skills, and be highly organized. They must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects with tight deadlines, while acting as a calming influence to help the team stay on target.
This person will be responsible for using existing art assets to create inspired animated 2 ½ D graphics, motion graphics, simple animations, and transition effects. This person will be working closely with a small team; a director, a producer, and various cinematic artists to develop and execute a high volume of exciting new content.
They must be able to operate with varying degrees of supervision, taking ownership when needed while remaining flexible to collaboration and iteration. They must also be able to organize and optimize comps to streamline render times, generate necessary types of footage for editorial, interpret and execute notes with minimal follow up, all while maintaining strong communication with the rest of the cinematics department.

This is a temporary position at our Irvine, CA studio.

REQUIREMENTS

Strong knowledge of Maya, including modeling, rigging, animation, simulation
Strong Knowledge of compositing software packages, preferably Nuke
Excellent sense of timing and camera composition
Critical eye for color, art, and animation
Able to iterate quickly and openly
Able to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and different work methodologies
Highly self-motivated with excellent communications skills
Able to work well under tight deadlines and quick project turnover
Able to work closely with multiple directors, producers, editors and other team members
Able to troubleshoot and solve problems independently

PLUSES

Knowledge of and passion for Blizzard’s game worlds and the stories told within them
Knowledge and experience using camera capture systems and camera projection and rendering techniques
Knowledge of After Effects and other adobe products in the creative suite
Experience with Color Correction software packages and color standards

The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in animation principles, the ability to reinforce the story by creating memorable performances, and have aptitude working in a variety of animation styles.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 3 years’ character and / or creature CG animation experience in game development, television, or film industry using Maya or equivalent 3D program
Passion for film, animation and video games
Able to effectively collaborate with other artists, producers, and programmers

Assist in supporting and evolving the cinematics team with constructive feedback both technically and artistically
