VFX Artist

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled VFX Artist to work on all things Diablo. Our ideal candidate has extensive experience working with 3D packages, in-game VFX systems to create a wide range of VFX (fire, smoke, explosions, etc.), as well as a general understanding of good game play communications. Essential skills include a solid grasp of the principles of motion, anticipation, dynamics, follow-through, and other facets of animation. The VFX Artist must also have skill in creating textures and geometry needed for stylized VFX backed by related tools expertise – Photoshop, After Effects, Maya, etc.
The ideal candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about Diablo, making great games, killing demons, and getting loot!

Requirements

Experience creating brilliant, eye catching real-time VFX using Photoshop, Maya, and in-game VFX systems
Strong grasp of visual design principles used to create stylized, compelling VFX
Able to paint VFX textures from scratch and match an established style
High degree of proficiency with 3D graphics, particle systems, physics, ribbons, shaders, etc.
Solid knowledge of rendering engines
Self-motivated, humble, excellent communications skills, and a legendary team-player attitude
A minimum of 4 years’ creating real-time special VFX for video games

Pluses

Previously shipped AAA PC or console titles in an equivalent type role
Scripting experience in Lua, Python, etc.
Experience creating and using real-time shaders
2D or 3D animation experience
Strong passion for developing games
Knowledge and understanding of the Diablo universe

Senior Lighting / Compositing Artist (Temp)

CINEMATICS

The Blizzard cinematics team is seeking an experienced temporary senior lighting / compositing artist to jump into working on Blizzard’s imaginative worlds. We’re looking for someone with the experience and passion to make our shots epic. If you’re interested in diving into that which makes up the worlds of WoW, Diablo, StarCraft, and other interesting projects, come join us!

Responsibilities

Design and implement lighting of characters and environments for shots that meet and enhance the given art direction.
Maintain the overall look, color balance, and quality for assigned shots and sequences to create uniformity in all finished work.
Fully understands an “iteration intensive” shot pipeline.
Work with FX department for integrating and developing FX.
Work closely with visual effects supervisors, producers and the lighting / compositing supervisor.
Ultimately responsible for completing all lighting and compositing of shots.

Requirements

A minimum of 5 years in the feature film or commercial production environment
A strong knowledge of Nuke, Maya, Linux, Renderman and can easily adapt to a new pipeline and proprietary lighting tools
Able to plan and execute complex 3D lighting scenes, including working with layers and passes
Able to determine best approach to solve lighting and compositing challenges and develop final overall look
Able to perform all tasks associated with the compositing and lighting process, including 2D tracking, matte extraction, layering of elements, color grading, roto work, projection of elements and 3D components
Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets

Experience in working in a full 3D Animated pipeline

Senior FX Artist (Temp)

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented temporary senior FX artist to assist our Cinematics team in creating the next generation of our award-winning animated films. You will work in partnership with modelers, animators, lighters, texture artists, and compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the highest standard. You must be skilled at providing simulations and systems that mimic real life phenomena such as smoke, fire, and water. You must also be able to demonstrate quick-compositing of FX elements for review by the supervision team. Lastly, you must be able to help design solutions where a more procedural approach can be used to help create the effects required.

Requirements

A minimum of 5 years’ experience producing feature film quality effects in Houdini, Maya, 3dsMax, or other related packages. ( RayFire, RealFlow, Thinking Particles, FumeFX, etc.)
A good understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena
Extensive experience with particle systems, fluid dynamics, rigid body dynamics, and procedural systems
Proven track record creating effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, and explosions
Experience with node-based compositing software such as Nuke
Able to problem solve both technically and creatively in a collaborative environment with directors / art directors
Able to stay current with the latest tools, technologies, and techniques
Familiar with feature film level pipelines and their respective issues

Pluses

Experience with VEX or the RenderMan Shading Language
Experience with C++ or Python

3D In-Game Artist

Blizzard’s In-Game Cinematics team is looking for a 3D Artist to help us tell the stories of the World of Warcraft. In our small-team environment, this position will be tackling a wide variety of artistic tasks. The primary focus will be on creating FX (both 2D and 3D), cleaning up game models, and painting textures, but may also include creating new models, motion graphics, compositing, and lighting. We need someone who is enthusiastic, knows and loves the art of WoW, and enjoys creating in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment.

Requirements

A minimum of 3 years’ experience in game development modeling and texturing 3D assets using 3DS Max and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs)
A minimum of 2 years’ experience creating spectacular game engine FX
Experience with creating 2D FX in After Effects or equivalent software
An understanding of anatomy, form, and silhouette in regard to character modeling
Superior eye for light, shade, color, and detail in painting stylized texture maps
Able to create art in the distinct World of Warcraft style
Self-motivated, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitude
Able to take direction from show and department leads while matching an existing style
An impressive demo reel showing off your amazing art skills

Pluses

Have shipped at least one AAA PC or console title as a 3D artist or FX artist
Experience with Mudbox, ZBrush, or equivalent modeling program and the process of converting high-poly sculpted models into lower poly game assets
Strong foundation in the traditional arts, including figure drawing and painting
Experience creating motion graphics in After Effects of equivalent software
Has multiple level 80+ characters in the World of Warcraft
