Storyboard Artist (Temp) – Cinematics

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented story artist to temporarily assist our cinematics team in creating the next generation of our award-winning cinematics! The story artist will not only function as a conventional storyboard artist but additionally will contribute collaboratively to both story and sequence development with the director.

Responsibilities

Receive written and verbal descriptions of a sequence from the Director.
Draw storyboards that depict the action, camera placement, and acting of the characters in that sequence.
Hone, refine, delete, or create dialog where needed.
Present the storyboards to the director and other members of the story team.
Once approved, pass storyboards on to the team.
Create new drawings to fix and change sequences throughout the production process.
Create and pitch alternate story solutions to the director.

Requirements

Able to create story ideas and options to story ideas
Composition and presentation skills
Able to present work in a clear and entertaining way
Entertaining acting ideas
Strong layout and design skills
Strong, communicative draftsmanship
Able to work quickly, when necessary
Able to work collaboratively, create and then change gears
Basic knowledge of film is required, including language, acting, and craft
Basic Photoshop experience recommended, but not required
A degree or equivalent in Computer Graphics, Animation, Film-making, or other related course

Pluses

Knowledge and experience using editing software
Previous experience as a storyboard artist in the game or movie industries

The World of Warcraft team is looking for an animation centric FX artist. Think well beyond smoke and fire and more along the lines of chain lightning, seeds of corruption or incinerate! There is no telling what you will be tasked with, so an FX artist should be a swift decision maker and have a skull full of great ideas.
Do you have a solid background in the foundations of art such as animation, structure, composition, and color? How about a portfolio crammed full of magical over the top FX?

Requirements

Experience developing particle systems and geometry based visual effects
A background in animation with a keen eye for punchy timing
Strong Photoshop skills for creating effect textures for use with particles

Senior 3D Character Artist – World of Warcraft

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled senior 3D character artist to join the World of Warcraft team. The ideal candidate has experience modeling and texturing a diverse visual range of characters and creatures. A solid grasp of form, structure, color, and light for both 2D and 3D art assets is essential.
The senior artist will work closely with the character art lead to push the art style and quality to the next level. They will offer mentorship and guidance to junior members of the team. The ideal candidate works well in an environment with peers who are passionate about making great games.
The senior character artist must be skilled in additional forms of art production as well — illustration, animation, concept drawing — and be well-versed in related tools –3ds Max, Photoshop, etc.

Requirements

A minimum of 4 years’ experience in game development modeling and texturing characters using 3ds Max and Photoshop (or equivalent 3D and 2D programs)
An exceptional understanding of human and creature anatomy and a keen eye towards form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regards to modeling
Superior eye for light, shade, color and detail in creating texture maps
Self-motivation, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitude
Advanced skill in two or more of the related creation tasks – illustration, modeling, texturing, animation, and concept drawing

Illustrator – Creative Development

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled 2D artist to work in The Anvil – Blizzard’s story development and ideation department. This artist will be focused on creating awe-inspiring artwork for all of Blizzard Entertainment’s intellectual properties (IPs). The ideal candidate has extensive experience creating digital illustrations in a variety of different visual styles. A solid grasp of foundational art skills, color theory, human and creature anatomy, design theory and Blizzard Entertainment’s IPs are essential. The artist must have expert command of Photoshop or an equivalent painting program. The perfect candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about creating awesome art, takes constructive criticism very well, and can hit deadlines. Title and salary will be consummate with experience.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create high profile illustrations for Blizzard’s IPs for a variety of purposes including but not limited to key art, magazine covers, novel covers, marketing and promotional materials.
Occasionally create concept and in-game art for Blizzard’s development teams.
Work with the Anvil producers to complete tasks by the assigned due dates.
Work with the creative development art lead to achieve the necessary final image quality.

Concept Artist (Temp) – Creative Development

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced concept artist to join its development team. The concept artist must be experienced in designing creatures, characters, environments, props, and FX studies for both, science fiction and fantasy genres. Work methods should include quick-sketching, clean line art, photo collaging and full painting.
Besides a strong understanding of anatomy and perspective, the ideal candidate should also possess a solid grasp of the unique elements and distinctive visual styles of Blizzard Entertainment’s universes. Proficiency in any of the major 3D packages is a plus.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create concepts for various projects as assigned. Concept work would range from, but are not limited to:
Characters, environment, props, lighting, and FX studies.
Black and white sketches to fully painted images as needed for the project.
May also be done using a variety of 3D packages to model and render assets.
Create in-game art for Blizzard Entertainment’s development teams on occasion.
Work with producers to complete tasks by the assigned due dates.
Work with art lead to achieve the necessary final image quality.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience with Photoshop and other 2D art / painting programs
Superior eye for light, value, composition, color, staging, and detail in environmental design
Experience working in the pre-production aspects of game development and movie / animated feature film-making
