Senior User Interface Artist

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is currently looking for an experienced, creative, and artistically talented senior user interface (UI) artist for Heroes of the Storm. The UI artist will work closely with the Lead UI artist, art director, and designers to conceptualize the visual style, and interactive experience for Starcraft II, and any related projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create a unique and engaging visual identity that supports and reinforces gameplay.
Apply and maintain a consistent art style throughout the entire project interface.
Create animated prototypes demonstrating UI interaction models.
Collaborate with a team of engineers in the implementation of UI components.
Work collaboratively within a team of developers to create an intuitive UI experience.
Iterate using feedback to drive and polish features to a high quality state.
Make independent creative decisions and work with a team to execute.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 5 years’ experience working in the graphics arts, interaction design, or advertising field
Strong graphic design skills — particular iconography creation, artistic sense, and fluency in Adobe Photoshop
Able to illustrate UI components that are consistent with Blizzard Entertainment’s design philosophy
Strong ability to digitally render and paint all types of materials and surfaces.
Strong understanding of UI, and usability principals
Awareness of current trends in Web, and user interface design
Able to lead and work well with a team in a dynamic, cross-discipline, and iterative setting
Able to understand technical implementations, and limitations
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
A passion for video games, and user interface design

PLUSES

Game industry experience designing user interfaces for software titles
Prototyping skills with tools such as Adobe Flash / Microsoft Blend
Wire-framing experience
Traditional 2D sketching and composition skills
Extensive experience playing Blizzard Entertainment games

User Interface Designer

Heroes of the Storm

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a talented and enthusiastic user interface (UI) designer to work on Heroes of the Storm. The ideal candidate will have a strong design sense of usability, aesthetics, and UI flow through various online screens and systems. This candidate will also have extensive experience with the Battle.net user experience and Heroes of the Storm. The designer will work hand in hand with UI artists and engineers to effectively craft the user experience and user flows for Heroes of the Storm.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create conceptual wireframes, user flow diagrams to solidify design direction and plans.
Design a compelling user experience for the game’s interface and menus that are easy to understand and use.
Work closely with design and technology teams to conceptualize and prototype interface functionality, look, and feel.
Identify priorities and gaps in current designs, and contribute / iterate creative solutions.
Maintain familiarity with the game’s user interface design, both the live product and upcoming expansions.

REQUIREMENTS

Able to design layout / user interface story boards and process flow charts
Fluency in Visio, Axure, Photoshop or similar software
Awareness of current trends in web and user interface design
Able to synthesize new information and feedback in order to distill it to the most critical issues and draw accurate conclusions

Animator

StarCraft II

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled 3D character animator to join our StarCraft II team. From insane mechs to gruesome organic creatures, the ideal candidate has experience animating both human and non-humanoid characters. A solid grasp of the principles of body movement, anticipation, overshoot, follow-through, squash and stretch, forward / inverse kinematics, and other facets of both 2D and 3D animation is essential.

Requirements

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in game development using 3ds Max, Maya or an equivalent 3D program
Exceptional skills in animating the human bipedal figure, as well as other organic forms
A thorough understanding of animation pipelines and the processes involved from the conceptual phase to implementation
Able to effectively collaborate with game designers and programmers
Self-motivation, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitude
A passion for video games

Pluses

Have shipped AAA PC or console titles as a character animator
Skills in one or more of the related character creation tasks — illustration, modeling, texturing, or rigging
Outstanding 2D animation skills
Experience in FX and particle animation
Understanding of Blizzard Entertainment’s visual style and a passion to push it to the next level

Description

Reporting to the senior art director, the art director will be their key partner in the execution of World of Warcraft’s (WoW) art. The art director role requires you to ignite others both as a leader and as an artist. As a leader you will be a motivational catalyst for the art team. As an artist, you will help define the look of new characters, environments, and architecture in the WoW style. In addition to channeling the visual direction of our senior art director to the art team, the role will act as one of the key communications conduits for design and programming.

Responsibilities

Create concept paintings, models, textures, and other benchmark assets that inspire others.
A proven ability to visually solve problems in collaboration with the broader game team including other artists, art leads, and design leads.
Partner with the senior art director to own and define assigned aspects of the project as directed.
Excellent ability to art direct multiple art disciplines.
Partner with production to ensure schedules and plans meet business and project needs.
Partner with art management to ensure team is healthy and strong.

A minimum of 10 years’ experience crafting video game art
A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a lead artist or art director

Art Manager

Administer staffing decisions that help achieve both the short-term and long-range goals of the team
Help create and manage department schedule and insure proper workflow through the department.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience as a lead, supervisor, art manager or art director in AAA game art production
Demonstrated ability to manage a group of artists in a dynamically changing game production environment
Proven ability to deal a with a wide range of personnel issues including recruitment, career development and conflict resolution
Demonstrated ability to interact as part of a team and to contribute to increasing productivity goals and efficiencies
Strong organizational skills
Well-developed interpersonal communication skills, diplomacy and tact
