Description

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled 3D FX artist to work on our StarCraft and Heroes of the Storm universes. The ideal 3D FX artist candidate is able to conceptualize and create natural, sci-fi and fantastical effects, all for real-time use. From crazy arcane fireballs to insane plasma beams, this person must be driven to create compelling effects and achieve the awesome quality and flavor Blizzard Entertainment games are known for.

REQUIREMENTS

Experience developing particle systems and geometry based visual effects
Strong Photoshop skills for creating effect textures for use with particle systems / animated geometry
Self-driven, passionate, creative problem solver, and a great team first attitude
A passion for video games
Understanding of Blizzard Entertainment’s visual style, and the desire to push it to the next level

PLUSES

Modeling and texturing experience for props, and / or characters is a big plus
Strong working knowledge of 3ds Max, or equivalent 3D programs
Animation experience
Previously shipped a AAA PC, or console title
Experience with the creation of next-gen shaders, and materials
Experience with MaxScript, or Mel

Sculptor

Description

Blizzard Entertainment’s creative development department is looking to bolster their team with a new sculptor. The desired candidate needs to have a combination of traditional and digital skills in creating highly detailed models. You will team up with our sculpting director and other team members to produce an array of products with the high quality and precision all Blizzard properties are known for. We need your help to bring our characters and props to life: fantastical art pieces that embrace the often realistic or surreal artistic style of our video game properties.
If you have a strong passion for building 3D product, and come from a background of using traditional wax and clay, and have a working knowledge of digital sculpting programs like Zbrush, Rhino or Mudbox, then this could be the perfect role for you.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Create highly detailed statues, toys, props, and other product from Blizzard games.
Take ownership of a project from start to finish.
Work with art directors from each IP to fully capture the vision and detail needed to convey their property’s story, emotion, and scale.
Give and receive feedback when translating 2D art into 3D models.
Work with licensing to help clean up or fine tune outside projects.
Maintain positive working relationships with art teams and art directors.
Manage time and projects to ensure on time deliveries.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a commercial sculptor, preferably with both digital and traditional experience
Zbrush knowledge and skills
Capable of producing sculptures with extreme detail
Able to collaborate and “tag team” projects that are under tight deadlines
Able to take critiques at any stage in the sculpting process
Have a positive attitude, open minded, and trustworthy
Demonstrated experience providing solid input and embracing problem solving while working with other teams towards creative solutions that will speed up production while maintaining integrity and creativity

Machinima Technical Artist

Description

Blizzard Entertainment’s in-game cinematics team has an opening for a dedicated technical artist to join the Machinima group. This person will help make in-game cut scenes and other movies using our proprietary game engines and tools.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Rigging character and prop assets.
Producing visual effects in the World of Warcraft (WoW) style in both 2D and 3D software environments.
Troubleshooting basic technical problems.
Strong general knowledge of the 3D production process.
Familiar with the WoW universe and story arcs, and be able to reproduce the art style in their work.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 4 years’ experience with film, game and / or commercial production pipelines
Scripting (Python, Lua, Maxscript, Jscript, etc.)
Able to author and support tools in a production environment
A strong understanding of character rigging and rigging pipelines
Production knowledge of Maya, 3D Studio Max and Adobe After Effects
Experience with particle systems, rigid body dynamics, and procedural systems
Working knowledge of game engines and game editors. As well as an in-depth understanding of game engine pipelines, technologies, and limitations
Strong interpersonal and creative collaboration skills, working with developers and writers to attain a vision

Animation TD

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a talented, motivated, and experienced animation technical director (TD) to join our cinematics team. The animation TD must have a thorough knowledge of animation, rigging and simulation tools and workflows currently used in the CG / VFX industry, as well as related cross pipeline tools and workflows. They will work with technical and art supervisors to determine workflows, tool requirements, and asset needs for the animation, rigging and simulation teams. This individual will also implement basic tools and workflow automation. They must be strong communicators!

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in developing rigging and animation tools using python and pyqt / pyside
Expert working knowledge of current industry animation, rigging, and simulations practices, techniques and technologies
Expert in character deformation practices
Expert working knowledge of Maya
Strong understanding of the CG production process, from asset creation to final compositing
Strong problem-solving skills
A minimum of 2 years’ experience in developing tools and implementing process improvements in a CG production environment
Strong verbal and written communications skills
Strong desire to function in a technical support role

PLUSES

Working knowledge of Renderman
TCL, MEL, and Python programming experience
General TD experience

Senior Technical Artist

Description

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking an exceptionally skilled technical animator to join us in creating Heroes of the Storm.
Your charge will be to forge rigs for our roster of Blizzard Heroes. You will help animators turn fresh character models into living, breathing warriors in game. You will be the guardian of quality by being the caretaker of these characters until they are finished and released.
Our ideal candidate has extensive experience rigging on one or more successful AAA console and / or PC games. We are looking for someone with extensive experience with 3D animation tools, great collaboration skills, and a passion for Blizzard games.
You’ll be part of a team just as excited about making great games as you are, and together we’ll bring the next epic hero into the Nexus.

REQUIREMENTS

Comprehensive knowledge of rigging in 3D content creation software, such as 3ds Max or Maya.
Strong technical background and a positive attitude.
Highly self-motivated and collaborative, able to help drive a character from start to finish.
Able to communicate effectively with animators and character artists.
Detail-oriented problem solving ability.
Expert-level knowledge of MaxScript, Python, or C++.
Keen eye for good model topology.
Experience with technical simulation, such as physics or cloth.
A minimum of 3 years’ experience in game character rigging.
Passion for playing and making computer games, especially game styles relevant to Heroes of the Storm.
