Art Outsource Supervisor

Classic games is seeking a skilled artist to help revitalize StarCraft, Warcraft III, Diablo II, and our catalogue of other classics.
This is an art generalist position requiring hands on direction, management, and engine integration of a wide range of assets including characters, weapons, and environment props.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Outsource Animation Supervisor

Blizzard is looking for a highly motivated and talented animator to join the World of Warcraft team in Irvine, California. This position requires hands on direction, management, and engine integration of a wide range of character animation assets.
The ideal candidate would have a high degree of animation skill with an affinity towards production management. The role requires strong animation direction and leadership skills to be able to manage and provide detailed feedback to external art vendors. They must also be an experienced and flexible artist, able to put final touches on any piece, and then be able implement those assets into the game engine. They will coordinate with team leads to build relationships, track assets, and help identify art needs.
They’ll be required to provide daily feedback for both human and non-humanoid characters. A solid grasp of the principles of body movement, anticipation, overshoot, follow-through, squash and stretch, forward and inverse kinematics, and other facets of both 2D and 3D animation is essential. The animation supervisor must be well-versed in related tools — 3DS Max, Maya, etc.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Work closely with animation lead and production to ensure all assets have required information in a timely manner, prior to being sent to external teams.
Interface with external teams; provide daily direction via documentation and sketching over incoming content.

In addition to channeling the visual direction of our senior art director to the art team, the role will act as one of the key communication conduits for design and programming.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Partner with the senior art director to concept and create benchmark assets that define the end vision.
Work closely with game design to ensure art supports the overall player experience.
You’ll be delegated aspects of the artistic vision and will be responsible for its execution through other art department leads.
You will ensure that all the visual aspects of the game come together as a cohesive vision.
Give constructive and creative feedback through art department leads.
Inspire the art team and unite them under one vision.
Partner with production to develop high level execution strategies.
Take initiative to solve problems with follow through on your commitments.

REQUIREMENTS

You have extensive game development experience and understand the resilience, patience and the need for constant improvement that is required to make a game
You have an infectious passion for games, art and WoW that inspires your team to work to their highest potential
You think broad strokes and make decisive decisions with enough clarity to align a team and enough flexibility that you don’t need to own every detail
You have a portfolio that backs up your ability to set a marketable artistic vision. If you can’t explain it you can paint it
You are curious and constantly self-improve as a leader and as an artist

Senior Modeler/Texture Artist

Can you craft a fortress fit for a warrior king? A palace for the damned? Caverns of doom and mines of untold riches? From the depths of Molten Core to the terrors of Ice Crown Citadel, World of Warcraft (WoW) dungeons offer adventure and glory to the intrepid heroes of Azeroth.
The ideal senior artist can either be 2D or 3D focused. Ideally, they’d be able to float between either role. Your focus is to invent, create, and paint elaborate backdrops for all the big baddy bosses that inhabit the game. You are part modeler, texture artist, concept artist, illustrator, painter, lighter, set decorator, and level designer all rolled into one. As gate keeper for a dungeon, you are responsible for translating a 2D layout into a fully realized 3D dungeon. You also must have the creative sense to fill in the gaps and interpret areas that may not have specific concept art.
The dungeons in World of Warcraft offer up a great variety of themes, and you get to be the point person for all things creative that go into it. If this describes your talents then you have our attention!

RESPONSIBILITIES

Collaborate closely with level design to translate 2D layout into a fully realized 3D dungeon.
Freely interpret lose concept art and realize it as a 3D environment.
Light environment to establish mood and gameplay flow.
Apply textures and set dress interior environments.
Create 2D overpaints to flush out the level’s visual design, lighting, and mood.
Create textures in a hand painted style.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 6 years’ experience working as a texure artist / matte painter or environment artist
A minimum of 4 years’ experience working as a modeler
Proven ability to work in the 2D and 3D space
Excellent at setting and driving a vision
Excellent follow through and takes initiative to solve problems
An exceptional understanding of architecture as it applies to level design, light, and color
A thorough understanding of the level design process
Works closely with game design to ensure art enhances the player experience
Able to explore a wide variety of ideas that push the Wow style

PLUSES

A degree or formal art education such as illustration, traditional painting or industrial design
Understanding of the visual style of World of Warcraft and a passion to push it to the next level
A mind for art direction and leadership

Animator

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for an exceptionally skilled 3D character animator to join our StarCraft II team. From insane mechs to gruesome organic creatures, the ideal candidate has experience animating both human and non-humanoid characters. A solid grasp of the principles of body movement, anticipation, overshoot, follow-through, squash and stretch, forward / inverse kinematics, and other facets of both 2D and 3D animation is essential.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 2 years’ experience in game development using 3ds Max, Maya or an equivalent 3D program
Exceptional skills in animating the human bipedal figure, as well as other organic forms
A thorough understanding of animation pipelines and the processes involved from the conceptual phase to implementation
Able to effectively collaborate with game designers and programmers
Self-motivation, good communications skills, and a great team-player attitude
A passion for video games

PLUSES

Have shipped AAA PC or console titles as a character animator
Skills in one or more of the related character creation tasks — illustration, modeling, texturing, or rigging
Outstanding 2D animation skills
Experience in FX and particle animation
