2.5D Compositing Artist (Temp)

CINEMATICS

Office: Irvine, California, United States

The Blizzard Cinematics team is seeking a seasoned compositing artist who has had production experience in 2.5D workflows. We’re looking for someone with the understanding and passion to make our shots epic by jumping into work within Blizzard’s imaginative worlds. If you’re interested in diving into that which makes up the worlds of WoW, Diablo, StarCraft, and other interesting projects, come join us!

Responsibilities

Design and layout character, FX, and environment artwork for shots within the comp that meet and enhance the given art direction using a compositing toolset.
Maintain the overall look, color balance, and quality for assigned shots and sequences to create uniformity in all finished work.
Fully understands and is comfortable in an “iteration intensive” shot pipeline.
Work with FX department for integrating and developing FX elements.
Working closely with visual effects supervisors, producers, and the lighting / compositing supervisor to achieve the desired look.
Ultimately responsible for bringing shots to final.

Requirements

A minimum of 5 years’ in the feature film or commercial production environment as a compositor
An advanced knowledge of Nuke including its 3D toolset and Photoshop. Knowledge in Maya, Linux, and After Effects is a

plus

Able to determine best approach to solve the compositing challenges and develop final overall look
Good communication skills to work closely with a lighter, matte painter, or 2D artist on shots
Able to perform all tasks associated with compositing, including 2D tracking, layering of complex elements, color grading, roto work, projection of elements and 3D components
Accountable for meeting productivity and quota targets

Pluses

Experience in working in both a live action and full 3D Animated Pipeline
Portfolio Requirements
Provide a demo reel and shot breakdown sheet
Demo reel should display a firm artistic understanding Composition and 2.5D workflows

2.5D Graphics Artist (Temp)

CINEMATICS

The Cinematics department is focused on creating industry-leading Cinematic content to support all of Blizzard’s titles, and is looking for a temporary 2.5 D graphics artist to be dedicated to various projects throughout the Cinematics, and creative development departments. This person must have strong Maya, After Effects, and Photoshop experience, outstanding communication skills, and be highly organized. He / she must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment, handling multiple projects with tight deadlines, while acting as a calming influence to help the team stay on target.
This person will be responsible for using existing art assets to create inspired animated 2 ½ D graphics, motion graphics, simple animations, and transition effects. This person will be working closely with a small team; a director, a producer, and various cinematic artists to develop and execute a high volume of exciting new content.
He / she must be able to operate with varying degrees of supervision, taking ownership when needed while remaining flexible to collaboration and iteration. They must also be able to organize and optimize comps to streamline render times, generate necessary types of footage for editorial, interpret and execute notes with minimal follow up, all while maintaining strong communication with the rest of the Cinematics department.

Requirements

Strong knowledge of Maya, including modeling, rigging, animation, and simulation
Strong knowledge of Adobe After Effects, and Photoshop, as well as other Adobe Creative Suite software and applicable plug-ins
Excellent sense of timing and camera composition
Critical eye for color, art, and animation
Able to iterate quickly and openly
Able to learn quickly and adapt to new technologies and different work methodologies
Highly self-motivated with excellent communication skills
Able to work well under tight deadlines and quick project turnover
Able to work closely with multiple directors, producers, editors, and other team members
Able to troubleshoot and solve problems independently

Experience with digital content creation tools, such as Photoshop, Painter, etc.
An exceptional understanding of human and creature anatomy and a keen eye towards form, shape, structure, and silhouette in regards to illustration and design
Superior eye for light, value, composition, color, staging, and detail in environmental design
Able to carry an idea from the conceptual phase to the finished illustration and an understanding of translating these ideas to real-time game environments
