Senior 3D Artist (Temp)

Blizzard Entertainment is looking for a well-rounded, highly adaptable contract senior 3D artist to work with its in-game cinematics team. The senior artist must have the skills to work with very little supervision, is able to make solid decisions with regards to asset creation, and document processes in an efficient and easily understood format. This person will be responsible for maintaining a superior eye with regards to shading, color, as well as, the level of detail on any given asset, does not over or under model an asset, and is able to make decisions that do not break the pipeline or create unnecessary work for other departments. Additionally, this individual is able to lead or direct junior artists in the creation of larger team based assets. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and continuously seeks to improve their skills and abilities with regards to 3D asset creation.

REQUIREMENTS

Very knowledgeable in the creation of real time asset creation
Able to sculpt hero characters, especially females and very complicated characters
Able to handle advanced tasks and complete tasks with little to no supervision
Able to sculpt very complex sets
Able to easily break down a model to construct it in the most efficient way possible
Excellent communication and problem solving skills
Able to filter and evaluate criticism on a professional level
Works well with the team dynamic
Behaves in a professional manor with regards to their interactions with other department employees

The ideal candidate must be capable of communication regarding design and technical tasks, love the act of planning, enjoy working inside a flexible team-oriented environment, be versed in project management styles and processes, and be utterly devoted to delivering quality products on time. Self-direction and follow-up skills are a must, as well as the ability to anticipate production issues and find effective solutions.

ABOUT BATTLE.NET

The Battle.net team develops all our customer-facing web sites, ranging from account management and e-commerce sites, to community forums and character profiles for multiple global regions, extending, supporting, and enhancing the epic game experience and polish Blizzard is known for.
We have a very collaborative environment, both inside the team and with other teams across Blizzard, so you’ll be doing a fair amount of talking and listening. RESPONSIBILITIES

Work with the department’s lead to ensure the overall goals of the team are being met.
Create, coordinate, track, and manage the schedule to ensure that project tasks are completed on time.
Identify, track, manage, and resolve project issues.
Ensure that solutions are of acceptable quality.
Provide motivation and direction to ensure that project goals, objectives, milestones, and deliverables are achieved.
Work with department team leads and other producers to determine resources necessary to see projects through to completion.
Act as project leader and champion a consistent, organized process. Participate in creating and improving pipelines and processes to improve team productivity and reduce risk to the schedule.
Gather, document, and organize business, functional, and creative requirements for new projects from project stakeholders.
Liaise with stakeholders within different departments to facilitate communication.

Manage and guide other producers within the team.

REQUIREMENTS

A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a production role
A proven track record of shipping products
Able to communicate effectively
Must be skilled at risk assessment and management
Knowledge of development process, project management, and performance management
Proven experience managing schedules and employees to achieve desired results
Exceptional verbal and written communications skills in English
Unrelenting self-motivation and initiative
Able to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment
A passion for video games
A passion for organization and planning

Senior User Experience Designer (Austin)

We are looking for a senior UX designer who is oozing with curiosity but can still fit their head in the door for our Austin office. We believe in teamwork and having fun, so don’t expect to be a one-man wolf pack. If selected, you will create and support solutions for our gamers mostly with our customer service (CS) group which includes touching Battle.net, the support site, and the Warcraft game site. Your main goal would be to increase player satisfaction through customer service and increase the CS team’s efficiency. As the main point of contact for UX in our Austin office, this opportunity will favor someone who can build relationships in Austin and in our Irvine headquarters while still having an entrepreneurial spirit.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Understand what our users are doing and why – analytics, competitive analysis, and support research team.
Define problems and opportunities – analysis of our users and reps combined with our business needs that you’ll form into stories.
Create stuff to show the solutions – wireframes, flowcharts, prototypes, feature matrices, strategy, designs, constraints, oh my.
Iterate based on “validated learning” – more flowcharts, wires, designs, and collaborate with research team for usability.
Deliver and follow through – launch your ideas which means working from kickoff through development and getting sign-off along the way (e.g. final wires and flows, specs, use cases, error states) and doing post launch analysis.

REQUIREMENTS

Serious passion for user-centered design
Examples of highly detailed wireframes and designs
Examples of easily digestible story-based solutions
Examples of both data-driven decision making and instinct based decision making
Experience and examples creating websites, software applications, interactive spaces, games, and / or mobile applications
Experience conducting in-context observations and interviews
Knows the difference between a project goal and a requirement
Plays nice with others – graphic designers, developers, producers, executives, and the lunch lady
Both a conceptual thinker and a detailed designer
Can prototype your ideas – whether high or low fidelity using the Adobe Suite, HTML, and / or Axure
Easily adapts and learns new things whether it’s a new prototyping tool, design process, or game
A minimum of 4 years’ experience as a UX designer, information architect, visual designer, interaction designer, or similar
A minimum of 10 years’ experience if interested in a more senior role
Understands that not everything you do will be a conceptual project
