Technical Director – Shaders

Blizzard Entertainment is seeking a talented Shader Writer to work with our Story and Franchise Development shader team. This group is responsible for developing, writing, and supporting shaders used by the Blizzard Animation team on the development of the majority of our animated content. The primary packages in our pipeline are Maya, Nuke, Renderman and Redshift, driven by an in-house lighting tool. The team also uses Houdini, 3ds Max, and a suite of smaller custom tools. The ideal person will be well organized, a good communicator and collaborator, with a strong understanding of VFX pipelines. This person should love playing our games as much as they love creating world class visual effects.

Requirements

Fluent in Renderman; RSL (strong experience with GLSL, HLSL, or Mantra can be considered)
Fluent in C++ and Python
Deep understanding of linear algebra
Deep understanding of rendering and lighting algorithms
Seamless with revision control software SVN or Git
Strong familiarity with Linux or Unix
Experience with MC integration
Ability to remain calm under pressure
Exceptionally strong communicator
Minimum 3 years’ experience working on high-end film production or video game cinematics
Deep knowledge of VFX / CG film pipeline
Deep knowledge of Maya, Nuke (or node-based compositor)
BS in computer science or math, physics, or related
Artistic interest

Pluses

LUA programming experience
Mel
Masters or PhD in math, physics or related
Windows, OSX
Interest in painting or photography
Familiarity with Katana and Houdini

Graphic Designer

Blizzard Entertainment has a distinctive art style, one that extends beyond our games and into our communities. We are looking for a talented and well-rounded graphic designer to support our publishing department. The ideal candidate will be comfortable understanding marketing goals and strategic insights, leveraging the Blizzard art style to create a wide range of compelling art across multiple mediums, including but not limited to web graphics, social media, photography, and videos.

This designer should be an experienced storyteller, experienced in creating art assets which resonate with audiences across marketing channels. They must be versatile in creating and manipulating art assets into polished, usable formats across the same wide range of mediums. Additionally, this designer must be flexible and enjoy working on a variety of different projects while being able to manage multiple overlapping deadlines. Prior experience with high quality media requirements for popular social media platforms is a requirement!

Responsibilities

Create and manage persuasive and visually compelling work
Create assets for Blizzard websites, social media, and other external communication.
Create and edit video assets for broadcast and streaming.
Manipulate image composition, and perform basic paint overs when necessary.
Maintain knowledge of digital media requirements for social platforms.
Navigate game clients and editors to set up and capture print-quality screenshots for relevant Blizzard’s IP.
Provide key assets to regional teams and ensure localization is feasible.
Review and provide input to communication style guides with brand marketing and the game team.
Review and provide input to UGC content creators for spotlight opportunities.
Collaborate with teams within Blizzard

Requirements

A minimum of 4 – 6 years’ professional experience as an artist
Bachelor’s Degree in media art or related field or equivalent work
Understanding of the art styles of Blizzard Entertainment’s IPs
High levels of creativity, and demonstrated ability to generate innovative concepts, designs, and ideas
Exceptional eye for composition, contrast, and color
Extensive knowledge of social media platforms, associated media requirements and best practices
Advanced knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud
Advanced knowledge of video editing principles
Understanding of web technology trends
Able to work under pressure in a fast-paced, high-volume environment with frequent priority shifts
Effectively communicate across verbal and written form.
Strong customer service skills and a professional attitude
Able to work well in a collaborative team environment, and within an iterative design process
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
Able to work late shifts, weekends, and holidays
Additional Considerations (Pluses)

Knowledge and passion for Blizzard Entertainment games
Experience working in marketing agency
Experience with the game industry
Experience working on social marketing campaigns
Traditional art skills experience
Passion for video games, movies, graphic novels, science fiction, and other elements of pop culture
Experience with digital photography, and / or machinima
Experience with game level editors, such as the StarCraft II editor
Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS or other programming languages
Passion for video games, movies, graphic novels, science fiction, and other elements of pop culture
