Blizzard Entertainment’s cinematics team is built on a passionate drive that is focused on producing content that continually raises the bar of what is possible, and in doing so redefines what ‘Blizzard quality’ means with each new effort. We’d like to find them a talented and experienced senior level 3D FX artist to join and help continue creating the next generation of our award-winning animated films. This person will work in partnership with modelers, animators, lighters, texture artists, and compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the highest standard. This person must be able to demonstrate quick-compositing of FX elements for review by the supervision team.

Requirements
A minimum of 5 years’ developing simulation / procedural solutions for high end FX work including phenomena, such as, smoke, fire, and water
Solid background in producing film production quality effects in Houdini, Maya, and / or 3dsMax
A firm understanding of particle systems, fields, expressions, scripts, soft / rigid dynamic systems, and particle instancing / flocking usage
Experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam, and explosions
Experience with node-based compositing software, such as Nuke
Understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena
Code development experience with C++ or Python
Able to creatively solve problems and work with the director and art director
Able to stay current with the latest tools, technologies, and techniques and help implement them into the pipeline
Familiar with pipeline issues

Pluses
Working knowledge of RenderMan is preferred; Experience with other renderers, especially mantra is also useful
Experience with particle-to-voxel based systems
Experience working with RayFire, RealFlow, and / or FumeFX
Experience with RenderMan Shading Language

Senior Real-Time FX Artist

The ideal candidate has extensive experience working with 3D packages, in-game FX systems to create a wide range of FX (fire, smoke, explosions, etc.) as well as fluids and dynamics simulations. A solid grasp of the principles of movement, anticipation, dynamics, follow-through, lighting, and other facets of animation is essential. The FX artist must have skill in creating textures and geometry needed for FX. The FX artist should be well-versed in FX related tools — Photoshop, After Effects, Maya, Fume, Houdini, etc. The ideal candidate works well in an environment of peers who are passionate about creating cinematics.

Storyboard Artist

The story artist will not only function as a conventional storyboard artist but additionally will contribute collaboratively to both story and sequence development with the director.

Responsibilities
Receive written and verbal descriptions of a sequence from the Director.
Draw storyboards that depict the action, camera placement, and acting of the characters in that sequence.
Hone, refine, delete, or create dialog where needed.
Present the storyboards to the director and other members of the story team.
Once approved, pass storyboards on to the team.
Create new drawings to fix and change sequences throughout the production process.
Create and pitch alternate story solutions to the director.

Technical Director (TD) Back End

The back end pipeline (TD) must have a thorough knowledge of look development, matte painting, FX, lighting, compositing and rendering tools, and workflows currently used in the industry, as well as related cross pipeline tools and workflows. They will work with technical and art supervisors to determine workflows, tool requirements, and asset needs for the back end teams. Strong understanding of the CG production process, from asset creation to final compositing
