Lighting TD

Brown Bag Films are looking to employ the role of Lighting Technical Director

Job Description:

The position of Lighting Technical Director requires someone with a thorough knowledge of 3D Computer Graphics, with several years of experience in a similar role working on broadcast or film projects.
Successful applicants will have a well developed ‘eye’, a good working knowledge of art, design and film lighting as well as a solid technical grounding in render software (e.g. Renderman or Mental Ray) they will make recommendations for tools and pipeline changes as required, including suggestions for R&D tasks.
Some experience in Look Development and shader setup would be an advantage.

Requirements:

• Must have a good “eye”, and a good understanding of light, colour, contrast, shading, and lighting design.
• Must have a good working knowledge of lighting in Maya and/or 3D Studio Max.
• Must have a good knowledge of a compositing program such as Nuke or Digital Fusion.
• Must have a good knowledge of MentalRay and or Renderman.
• Must have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Must be able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks in a fast paced production environment.
• Must be open to direction.
• Knowledge of Mel and/or Python a big plus.
• Should have experience in development and maintenance of lighting/compositing pipelines
• Experience – As noted above.

Rigger

Brown Bag Films are looking to recruit the position of Junior Character Rigger.

Job Description:

• Design, create, test and maintain character set ups.
• Cooperate with the modeling dept. to create a model that meets technical needs.
• Collaborate with animators to design motion controls.
• Create secondary dynamics systems.
• Knowledge of Python preferred.
• Work with production management to prioritize tasks
• Troubleshooting problems with animated rigs

Requirements:

• In depth knowledge of Maya
• Good weight painting skills.
• Good communication skills, along with a strong team orientation.
• Minimum two years experience using Maya in a professional setting.

Scene Prep and Camera Artist

Brown Bag Films are looking to recruit the position of 3D Scene Prep and Camera Artist.

Job Description:

• They are responsible for recreating the 2D storyboards in the 3D software.
• Setting up the layout for both the cameras and characters in 3D space.
• Work closely with the Director to gain a good understanding of the style of the show and have good understanding of visual storytelling
• They also works closely with the Animation and Modeling departments to make sure what is shown in the 2D drawing are able to be recreated in 3D.
• Work includes creating the proxy version of sets to make sure that they hold up to the demands of the storyboard animatic and then work closely with the modelers as they finalise the asset.
• Create camera moves that are shown in the 2D storyboard to make sure that it translates well in 3D.
• Understanding the movement, pacing and timing of both the cameras and characters is vital as well as having a “good eye” for layout and composition.
• Responsible for doing the camera notes for each episode.

Requirements:

• Must have a working knowledge of animation and modelling in either 3D Max and Maya.
• Must have a “good eye” and a good understanding of layout and composition.
• Must have a good sense of movement, pacing and timing in both cameras and characters.
• Must have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality.
• Must be able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure.
• Must be open to direction and able to embrace change.
• Work in short films, live action or animation is a bonus.
