Pipeline Technical Director (Contract)


Job Title: 2D Pipeline Technical Director
Reports to: Head of Pipeline:

Position Summary:

Brown Bag Films (Manchester) is looking for a Pipeline Technical Director to collaborate in the delivery of production-ready tools for its TV production pipeline. The Pipeline Technical Director provides direct and daily technical support to current TV Productions.
Pipeline Technical Directors work with the Head of Pipeline and Supervisors to architect & develop production tools as well as supporting modules in a JavaScript and python scripting environment. Responsibilities include but not limited to Developing production Tools, solving technical issues, automating Shotgun, rendering, as well as support the asset and shot production pipelines.

Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for development and support of the Pipeline and Tools
Monitor current production practices to have a total understanding of the studio needs to enable all teams to meet their deadlines.
Develop efficient and readable code in, Python, JavaScript, and QT Script with Object Oriented programming best practices.
Author, update and maintain in-house documentation.
Conduct and mediate ‘Post Mortems’ with production teams that have concluded to investigate the positive and negative aspects of the production to further improve future productions.
Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of trends and software’s used in television productions.
Lead the development and implementation of production pipelines for all studio productions.
Recommend solutions to ensure technical decisions are made in an efficient and timely manner to boost artist’s output and complete their job more efficiently.
Monitoring current production practices to have the best understanding of the studio needs and ensuring all teams meet their deadline
Provide Technical pipeline Post Mortems to production. Advice on improvements that could be made and implementation of those improvements as where fit.
Design and maintain Pipeline technical milestones
Investigating new software for production
Train and support artists in using pipeline tools.
Advise artists and TD’s on technical planning and production issues.
Work with a centrally-managed pipeline development team.
Identify inefficiencies in the production pipeline and propose and design solutions.

Required Skills:

Extensive development experience in python
Experience in pipeline development with distributed teams
Experience using Python, JavaScript, and QT Script
Experience with Harmony
Experience using PyQT or PySide
Experience developing tools for Toonboom and Shotgun
Advanced understanding of Toonboom and Flash in a high end production environment
Expert understanding of the entire 2D production process
Good understanding of rendering.
Ability to work to both long and short deadlines.
Strong written and verbal communication skills

Bonus Skills

Tool development for Adobe Premiere, After Effects and, Photoshop
Experience with TDD
Experience with game engine technology
Experience with Shotgun Toolkit
Knowledge of Deadline
Experience with DVCS

Art Director (Contract)


JOB TITLE: Art Director ( Dublin)


The Art Director will be responsible for developing design concepts. They control the overall visual direction of a production including characters and sets. They work closely with the client, Producer and Director to achieve the highest quality for broadcast.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

Responsible for character, set and overall look design
Visual direction across departments (2D through 3D phases)
Approvals at all stages (including lighting and final colour correction in post production)
Gives clear direction in the form of notes or Photoshop mark-ups both internally and to overseas studios
Works closely with Client, Producer and Director to achieve highest quality for broadcast.

Person Specification/Requirements:

5+ years of experience in an Animation production environment.
3+ years of experience as an Art Director for a TV Series of Feature
Must be comfortable with outsource management with an emphasis on clear communication and follow through.
Ability to make decisions under pressure
Strong organizational and leadership skills. Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal).
Proven ability to work effectively with all levels of production crew, artistic staff and management.
Ability to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a high pressure environment while meeting strict TV deadlines.

3D Animator (Contract)


JOB TITLE: Animator
REPORTING TO: Production Manager


The Animator works closely with the Director to create a high standard of animation for broadcast.

Key Areas of responsibility:

Work closely with the Director to create high standard of animation for broadcast
Must be have strong communication skills and be willing to take notes and direction, under tight deadlines
Will work closely with Rigging team to troubleshoot and problem solve the rigging pipeline
Must work well in individually as well as part of a larger team.

Person Specification/Requirements

3+ years CG Animation experience
Ability to problem solve and predict potential problems with assigned tasks
Thorough knowledge of Maya and/or 3DS Max
Excellent organisational and communication skills

Showreels should contain:

Samples of both snappy and traditional animation styles
Examples of weight distribution & physics
A good example of acting & imagination
A variety of walk cycle

At Brown Bag Films, we are actively seeking a driven & talented 3D Animation Director to join our team & work with our talented artists on a fast paced and unique production. This role will report directly to the show Producer.

Summary of the role:

This in house 3D Animation Directorrequirement will suit someone who has well developed experience in 3D Animation Directing and is looking for a new challenge. You will be someone who is able to work both in a team and on your own in a fast paced and creative environment, who not only has a strong animation and artistic flair, but can motivate and work with animators in a collaborative and creative environment.

Key Areas of Responsibilities:

Responsible for establishing key character animation and animation bible for the entire production with the Lead Animator and Director
To ensure the high standard of animation is maintained throughout the production
Write scene by scene animation notes for each episode shipment
Review animation passes from the internal and external teams and write notes and responses to push animation to the desired standard
Approve facial and character rig with Rigging Lead
Approve Blend Shapes and Morphs for facial expressions
Work closely with the Director to understand overall storytelling and humour of the show
Work closely with the animation teams to improve each delivery and in turn reduce retakes as production proceeds.

Person Specification/Requirements

Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in directing 3D animation for long form Animation productions
Must have 3D animation experience
Clear communication skills
Must be very detailed oriented and organised
Must passionate about character animation and acting

Previz & Layout Artist (Contract)



The position of Previz and Layout Artist requires someone with several years experience in a similar role on broadcast or film projects. The position requires a solid generalist understanding of Maya’s Camera, Modelling & Animation tools.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

Establish geography, functionality and Layout of location assets by building proxy geometries and feeding these assets to Modelling.
Previz key animation sequences with an emphasis on camera, staging, timing and functionality of a sequence.
Work closely with the Directors on sequence layout and location blocking.
Set up cameras for shots and layout action for Animation.
Complete episodic camera notes when required.


4+ years’ previous experience in the CG Industry in a relevant role.
Must have an understanding of visual storytelling for layout and composition.
Must have strong working knowledge of animation principles, camera set-up and proxy modelling in Maya.
Must have a good sense of pacing and timing in Animation
Must have strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail and quality.

Must be able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure.
Must be open to direction and able to embrace change.
