Storyboard Supervisor (Contract)

JOB TITLE: Storyboard Supervisor
REPORTING TO: Senior Episodic Director

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

Brown Bag Films 2D Animation Studio in Manchester is recruiting for the position of STORYBOARD SUPERVISOR.

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will work on Nella The Princess Knight Season 2, 40×11 minute episode pre-school series for a global childrens’ channel.

The series is being created in Toon Boom Harmony.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage a team of freelance Storyboard Artists
Work closely with the Senior Episodic Director to get the style of the show through to the team.
Create script notes detailing what is required of the storyboard for each episode.
Responsible for handing out the launch packages to the storyboard artists, and through launch calls communicating the specific requirements of each episode.
Review and make detailed notes on each storyboard pass, and make revisions when needed.

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

Must have at least 2 years’ experience working as a Storyboard Supervisor (or similar position) in either broadcast or feature film work.
A good understanding of cinematography and staging
Strong drawing skills
Excellent communication skills
Task Driven, self-motivated, and proactive
Must be open to direction
Ability to work collaboratively with multiple tasks in a fast paced production.

Description

JOB TITLE: Director
REPORTING TO: Vice President of Production (Europe)

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

Working in a busy creative environment, the Director provides the vision and creative
leadership for the animation production.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

Scripts & outline
Implementing all the agreed changes from final scripts
Attend voice recordings as deemed necessary by Production.
Working with the Episodic Director for storyboard handout.
Working with the editor in cutting together the final animatic once storyboards come back.
Implementing all the agreed changes from network notes and locking animatic for progression into animation.
Writing Directors notes to add to the animation log before animation for each episode.
Review the Final animation with the animation director
Cut final offline and lock picture ready to send for score.
Write score notes.
Lock offline and Implement all agreed network notes from offline.
Work with sound engineer on the pre sound mix before sending to network.
Approve Final online edit and lighting with Art director.
Attend Final mix with network.
Working with designers and modellers to organise artwork for weekly approval shipments to Network.
Work with animation designer to sign off key animation movements for characters or for difficult scenes.
Work with Art Director to sign off key look for scenes.
Any other tasks relevant to providing the Employee’s services as a Director hereunder as reasonably decided by your manager or Producer

Animation Director (Contract)

At Brown Bag Films, we are actively seeking a driven & talented 3D Animation Director to join our team & work with our talented artists on a fast paced and unique production. This role will report directly to the show Producer.

Summary of the role:

This in house 3D Animation Directorrequirement will suit someone who has well developed experience in 3D Animation Directing and is looking for a new challenge. You will be someone who is able to work both in a team and on your own in a fast paced and creative environment, who not only has a strong animation and artistic flair, but can motivate and work with animators in a collaborative and creative environment.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

Responsible for establishing key character animation and animation bible for the entire production with the Lead Animator and Director
To ensure the high standard of animation is maintained throughout the production
Write scene by scene animation notes for each episode shipment
Review animation passes from the internal and external teams and write notes and responses to push animation to the desired standard
Approve facial and character rig with Rigging Lead
Approve Blend Shapes and Morphs for facial expressions
Work closely with the Director to understand overall storytelling and humour of the show
Work closely with the animation teams to improve each delivery and in turn reduce retakes as production proceeds.

Episodic Director (Contract)

Description

JOB TITLE: Episodic Director
REPORTING TO: Production Manager

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The position of Episodic Director requires someone with a thorough knowledge of 2D Animation pipeline, with 5+ years of experience in a similar role working on broadcast or film projects. Successful applicants will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple tasks in a fast paced production.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

Partnering with the Director, the Episodic Director participates in all creative aspects and in all phases of the production to achieve the overall completion of a 2D Episodic TV show.
Lead animatics and deliver assigned episodes through HD delivery
Script: consult with and advise the persons responsible for the writing the material the Project is based and carry out of all customary revisions;
Budget and Schedule: work with the Company to enable the Company to prepare a proper, comprehensive and detailed budget and schedule for the production
Pre-production: assist in all necessary preparations for the production in accordance with the approved budget and schedule
Direct the Project; direct the photography and recordings of the production as efficiently and economically as possible and in accordance with the final shooting script, budget and schedule
Post-Production: both during and after completion of the principal photography and recording of the production, organise and supervise the cutting, editing, post-synchronizing, scoring, dubbing, special and optical effects and titling, and the production of any retakes, added or substituted scenes of the production or cover shots

Person Specification/Requirements

5+ years of industry experience, preferably in Digital 2D animation for, TV, or film.
Prior directorial experience preferred.
Strong, proven skills in storyboarding, animation camera composition, storytelling and animation timing required.
Working knowledge of Toon Boom animation and post production techniques and terminology required.
Bachelor’s degree in film, art or related field preferred.
Strong organizational and leadership skills. Strong communication skills (written, verbal and interpersonal). Proven ability to work effectively with all levels of production crew, artistic staff and management.
Ability to establish priorities and multi-task efficiently within a high pressure environment while meeting strict TV deadlines.
Traditional portfolio and reel demonstrating drawing skills and work experience required.

Working in a busy creative environment, the Producer is responsible for producing a high profile TV series in 2D computer animation. The role involves managing an in house team as well as being responsible for a series schedule and budget.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

Creating and managing the schedule and budget for a TV series, ensure the production is produced on time and within budget..
Deliver (in collaboration with Finance) appropriate reporting to ensure all relevant stakeholders are kept updated on progress.
Producing weekly dashboard reports

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Art direction of the series through pre-production, production and post-production
Character, location and overall look design, including lighting and color scripts
Manage the series art department, including briefing and managing concept artists, character designers, background painters
Give clear direction in the form of notes or Photoshop mark-ups
Approval of final color correction in post
Work closely with the Producer and Director to achieve highest quality for broadcast

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

5+ years of experience in an Animation production environment.
3+ years of experience as an Art Director for a TV Series or Feature Film
Must be able to communicate in an articulate and positive manner
