3D/Technical Supervisor

Description

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The position of 3D/Technical Supervisor requires someone with an extensive knowledge of the 3D animation workflow and pipeline and has experience in leading a CG team. Successful applicants will have a solid understanding of the production process, strong motivational qualities, be a proven team leader and have excellent communication and organisational skills. They will be highly organised and technically and creatively astute.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

· Project manage the production from a CG perspective.
· Work alongside the Art Director to achieve the required ‘Look’ for the project and ensure the pipeline can facilitate the look efficiently.
· Identify and outline bottlenecks and deficiencies on the project, technical or otherwise, to the CG Supervisor and Producer. Propose and Implement solutions.
· Ensure the project’s shot pipeline is functioning effectively.
· Clearly and concisely communicate the project’s CG procedures and workflows to the other team members.
· Provide leadership and support for the project’s CG crew, both creatively and technically, and ensure they partner effectively with Production Management and ensure they deliver on their goals.
· Collaborate with the Pipeline Team and other 3D Supervisors to make requests and develop Studio’s global CG workflow and pipeline.
· Promote and Facilitate effective communication relating to CG workflow, between Art directors, Production management and the CG crew.
· Bidding of assets and shots.
· Use Asset tracking workflows to monitor notes and throughput.

Experience Required

· Previous experience in CG/3D supervision on film or broadcast work.
· Proficient in Maya and how it applies to animation workflows and pipeline.
· Experience with an asset tracking/management system.
· Experience of Animation ‘outsource & offshore’ production models a plus.

Modelling Supervisor

Description

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The Modelling Supervisor’s primary function is to supervise the Modelling department. The position is a senior role for the studio and requires someone with several years’ experience in a supervisory capacity working on broadcast or film projects. The successful applicant will have strong team leadership abilities, excellent communication skills and have the ability to work collaboratively on multiple tasks in a fast paced environment. They will have a well-developed artistic ‘eye’ and have extensive knowledge of modelling workflows and pipeline.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

· Supervise the Modelling Department and ensure the modelling workflow and pipeline is implemented by the team with a primary focus on maximising efficiency while also meeting the required ‘Look’ for the projects.
· Identify and outline bottlenecks and deficiencies in modelling workflows, technical or otherwise to the Head of CG and Pipeline team. Propose and Implement solutions.
· Define, document and communicate standards and techniques for modelling that ensures a consistent quality under the technical specifications of the project.
· Provide leadership and support for the Modelling Team, both creatively and technically, and ensure they partner effectively with Production Management and they deliver on their goals.
· Promote and Facilitate effective communication on asset production between Art directors, Production management and the dependant CG departments.
· Partner with Head of CG and Pipeline team to determine appropriate use of applications as they apply to Modelling in the studio, either in development or as they are phased into the productions.
· Advise on the set-up of large scale environments from a modelling perspective.
· Supervise the quality control (both technically and visually) of the external asset assignments and ensure the outsource partners have clear direction from the Modelling Leads.

Requirements

· Must have at least 3 years’ experience working as a Modeller (or similar position) in a lead or supervisory capacity, in either T.V. broadcast or feature film work.
· Full understanding of technical character modelling to aid rigging (Good topology, Edgeflow and anatomical proportions)
· Must have a thorough understanding of creating efficient Locations and sets for a pipeline.
· Must have an excellent working knowledge of Maya.
· Must have working knowledge of Z-brush or Mudbox.
· Must be comfortable with outsource management with an emphasis on clear communication and follow through.
· Experience with shotgun (or asset tracking systems) is considered a plus but not a requirement.

Pipeline Technical Director

Description

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

Brown Bag Films are currently looking for Pipeline Technical Directors to collaborate in the delivery of production-ready tools for its TV production pipeline. The Pipeline Technical Director provides direct and daily technical support to current TV Productions. Pipeline Technical Directors work with the Software Developers and CG Supervisors to architect & develop production tools as well as supporting modules in a python scripting environment. Responsibilities include but not limited to Maya technical issues, automating Shotgun, Deadline/Rendering, as well as support the asset and shot production pipelines.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

? Develop, document, and maintain tools for current productions, integrating into the existing CG pipeline.
? Train and support artists in using pipeline tools.
? Advise artists and TDs on technical planning and production issues
? Support and troubleshoot technical production issues
? Work with a centrally-managed pipeline development team.
? Identify inefficiencies in the production pipeline and propose and design solutions.
? Use source code version control systems to deploy code in production

Person Specification/Requirements

? Extensive development experience in python
? Experience in pipeline development with distributed teams
? Experience using PyQT or PySide
? Experience developing tools for Maya and Shotgun
? Advanced understanding of Maya in a high end production environment
? Expert understanding of the entire CG production process
? Good understanding of rendering.
? Ability to work to both long and short deadlines.
? Strong written and verbal communication skills.
? Tool development for houdini and nuke, photoshop, desirable but not essential
? Experience with DVCS, desirable but not essential
? Experience with TDD, desirable but not essential
? Experience with game engine technology, desirable but not essential

Software Developer

Description

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

The Software Developer’s exact responsibilities in Brown Bag Films will vary dependent on the project, but will be mainly responsible for the underlying architecture and development for software applications, as well as overseeing the work being done by junior software developers.
Although the responsibilities are primarily technical, The Software Developer will also interface between the pipeline department and productions teams. The software developer also serves as technical advisor to management and provides programming perspective on requirements.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

? Maintain and extend the current BBF tools repository
? Development of new technology to support the current productions in BBF.
? Conduct efficiency studies of workflows in current tools and work towards improving it.
? Documenting APIs, user guides and internal policies and procedures.
? Design and implementation of graphical user interfaces for internal tools.
? Integrate software with existing systems.
? Performance tuning, improvement, balancing, usability, automation.
? Work with TDs and Head of R&D/Pipeline to understand the needs of the Studio
? Attend relevant conference and trade shows
? Mentor junior programmers in the team and perform code reviews
? Any other relevant tasks deemed appropriate by your manager or directors of the company.

Person Specification/Requirements

? Extensive development experience in python and C++ or C#
? Excellent understanding of databases and asset management.
? Must have experience working on MS Windows platform.
? Good understanding of Computer Science principles (preprocessing, compiling, linking, profiling, etc)
