Animation Director

Description

JOB TITLE:   Animation Director

REPORTING TO:  Producer and Director

Summary of the role: Brown Bag Films has opened a 2D Animation Studio in Manchester and is recruiting for the position of Animation Director.

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will be working on a high profile 52 episode x 11 minute pre-school series for a global children’s channel.

Key Areas of responsibilities:

·         Establish and approve key character animation and animation bible for the series with the Director and animation team

·         Ensure a high standard of animation is maintained throughout the production

·         Write scene by scene animation notes for each episode

·         Review animation passes from the internal and external teams and write notes and responses to push animation to the desired standard

·         Work closely with the Director to understand overall storytelling and humour of the show

·         Work closely with the animation teams to improve each delivery and in turn reduce retakes as production proceeds. 

Person Specification/Requirements 

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in directing animation for series or long-form animation productions
  • Clear communication skills
  • Must be very detailed oriented and organised
  • Must be passionate about character animation and acting

The series will be animated in ToonBoom Harmony.

We will run training sessions for successful applicants not experienced in ToonBoom.

Art Director

Description

JOB TITLE   Art Director       

REPORTING TO: Producer 

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

Brown Bag Films has opened a 2D Animation Studio in Manchester and is recruiting for the position of Art Director.

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will work on a new, high profile, 52×11 minute episode pre-school series for a global children’s channel.

The series is being created in Toon Boom Harmony.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Art direction of the series through pre-production, production and post-production

·         Character, location and overall look design, including lighting and color scripts

·         Manage the series art department, including briefing and managing concept artists, character designers, background painters

·         Give clear direction in the form of notes or Photoshop mark-ups

·         Approval of final color correction in post

·         Work closely with the Producer and Director to achieve highest quality for broadcast

PERSON SPECIFICATION :

·         5+ years of experience in an Animation production environment.

·         3+ years of experience as an Art Director for a TV Series or Feature Film

·         Must be able to communicate in an articulate and positive manner

·         Excellent team skills

·         Must be able to work to tight deadlines

·         Ability to make decisions under pressure

·         Must communicate well and be willing to take notes and direction, under tight deadlines

·         Will work closely with Rigging team to troubleshoot and problemsolve

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

·         Must have at least 2 years’ experience working as an Animator (or similar position) in either broadcast or feature film work

·         Ability to problem solve and predict problems with assigned tasks

·         Must be comfortable with both working independently and as part of a team, with an emphasis on clear communication and follow through

·         Task -driven, self-motivated, and proactive

·         Must be open to direction

·         Must demonstrate attention to detail in the finishing of assets and shots

·         Knowledge of Toon Boom Harmony and/or experience with Shotgun (or asset tracking systems) is considered a big plus

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will work on a new, high profile, 52×11 minute episode pre-school series for a global children’s channel.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         The Background Designer will work within the Art Dept to develop background concepts and help refine the series colour palette

·         Specifically, the BACKGROUND DESIGNER will create four key background location concepts, based on the Art Director’s brief and the series Pitch Bible

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

·         Candidates will have credited experience of working as a Background Artist on a broadcast preschool series (please provide details)

·         Experience in Toon Boom Animate Pro or Harmony preferable but not essential

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will work on a new, high profile, 52×11 minute episode pre-school series for a global childrens’ channel.

The series is being created in Toon Boom Harmony.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Daily prioritisation of tasks and briefing for post personnel on project.

·         Delegating tasks to Assistant Coordinator if one is assigned to the project.

·         Check that assistant is over the daily KPD Updates.

·         Post Schedules Updates/Flags.

·         Reports to Post Manager and Producer.

·         Weekly Stats for Production Team.

·         Contribute to weekly Post meetings & weekly Production-Post meetings.

·         Attend Weekly Production Meetings.

·         Oversee co-ordinator liaising with in-house departments for footage and files.

·         Assist Post Coordinator team on projects when necessary. 

PERSON SPECIFICATION:

·         Minimum of  2 years’ experience  supervising in a post production environment

·         A very good working knowledge of 2D animation workflow

·         Experience in episodic post production deliveries

·         Experience working with international broadcasters and delivering to them

·         Must be well organized

·         Must have good scheduling skills and use to working under tight deadline

·         Ability to work on own initiative, in a fast pace environment.

·         Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a growing team

Brown Bag Films 2D Animation Studio in Manchester is recruiting for the position of STORYBOARD ARTIST

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will work on a new, high profile, 52×11 minute episode pre-school series for a global childrens’ channel.

The series is being created in Toon Boom Harmony. 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITY: 

·         You will be storyboarding for a 2D pre-school TV series with best use of space and camera

·         Respond well to notes and be able to translate revisions during storyboard review and animatic process

·         Adhere to the quality and style of the show and make sure it is consistently achieved in your drawing

·         Meet all deadlines as determined by the Producer or Production Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION: 

·         Ideally you have experience in storyboarding for pre-school TV series

·         Must have strong drawing and storytelling skills for action sequences

  • Storyboard Pro experience a plus

·         Must be able to work digitally

  • Clear communication skills
  • Strong organizational, time management and multi-tasking skills
  • Must be very detailed oriented and organised
  • Must passionate about character animation and acting
  • Will be required to do hands-on digital revisions
  • Good eye for continuity

REPORTING TO: Director 

SUMMARY OF THE ROLE:

Brown Bag Films 2D Animation Studio in Manchester is recruiting for the position of COMPOSITOR SUPERVISOR.

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will work on a new, high profile, 52×11 minute episode pre-school series for a global childrens’ channel.

The series is being created in Toon Boom Harmony.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Managing a team of compositors using both Toon Boom Harmony & After Effects

·         Work closely with Director to ensure consistency throughout post effects & production

·         Work closely with Toon Boom Technical Director to streamline scene transfer between Harmony & After Effects

·         Communicate clearly and regularly with Series Producer, Director and Animation Director on the production status and attend meetings as required

·         Partner with HR in the recruitment of the compositing team.

·         Promote and Facilitate effective communication regarding the compositing assignments between Art directors, Production Management  and Toon Boom Harmony / After Effects Compositors

·         Partner with Director and Production management to facilitate the career growth of the key talent within the compositing department 

PERSON SPECIFICATION :

Working in a busy creative environment, the successful candidate will work on a new, high profile, 52×11 minute episode pre-school series for a global childrens’ channel.

The series is being created in Toon Boom Harmony.

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Managing series batch renders and render farm

·         Adding module based effects to Toon Boom Harmony scenes

·         Working closely with Compositing Supervisor to organize scene networks for render to meet After Effects Compositors requirements

·         Ensure BBF’s internal shot pipeline is functioning effectively as it relates to scene composition

PERSON SPECIFICATIONS:

·         2+ years of experience  in Toon Boom Harmony

·         An excellent artistic ‘eye’ with a solid understanding of composition, light and colour

·         Must be able to communicate in an articulate and positive manner
