3D/Lighting Artist

Location: Carbine Studios, Orange County, CA

Description

Carbine Studios is seeking a hard-working, talented, motivated 3D Artist with lighting skills and a passion for online games to work on our upcoming PC MMO WildStar!

This individual will be responsible for modeling, UV mapping, painting highly stylized hand-painted texture maps of natural environment objects, and lighting a wide variety of exterior and interior environments.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Create natural props
* Paint textures
* Create high/low poly models
* Create tiled textures for terrain
* Light exterior and interior environments
* The ability to develop lighting schemes, color-palettes, and post-processing-fx

REQUIREMENTS:

* Experience creating natural props for video games using standard 3D software (e.g., Maya, 3D Studio Max, XSI)
* Experience painting textures
* Experience with low and high polygon modeling
* Technical savvy and ability to work with multiple toolsets and file types
* Excellent communication and team skills
* Must be able to learn and work within an established art style
* Passion for video games and building them
* At least 2 years professional experience creating natural assets for AAA games
* An online portfolio is required for consideration

Character Artist

Description

Carbine Studios, a software development company focused on making high-quality, cutting-edge, and conceptually innovative Massively Multiplayer Games, is seeking a talented Character Artist with a passion for online games to work on our upcoming PC MMO WildStar.

This artist will be responsible for creating characters, creatures, armors, and weapons. The applicant should be proficient in both modeling and texturing. The artist may also add scrolling textures or FX to assets, so they should have basic animation skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Model and texture characters, creatures, armors, and weapons
* Create new variants of existing character assets
* Work closely with the concept, tech art, and animation teams
* Add simple animations (such as scrolling textures) and FX to game assets

REQUIREMENTS:

* Experience with modeling and UVing in a 3D package
* Experience creating high poly models in a 3D sculpting app
* Experience with retopology and texture baking
* Experience painting stylized textures in Photoshop
* Basic animation skills
* Ability to match an established art style
* Technical aptitude to learn custom tools
* Excellent communication and team skills
* 2-3 years professional experience as a game artist.

The Environment Artist will also have the opportunity to support their structures by painting textures, creating and animating props such as doors and platforms, and in many cases, by sculpting terrain and placing props using our in-house editing tools.

Artist will lead and manage a team of artists in creating highly stylized 3D assets across all aspects of the world to create an incredible gaming experience. The work they do could include all aspects of 3D asset creation including: Modeling, Textures and UV Mapping, Animation, Effects, Shaders, Lighting, and Technical Art. The assets they and their team will create can encompass a broad range of subjects including both organic and inorganic objects from interstellar space ships to alien plant-life.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

* Create high-quality, 3D Assets (models, textures, lighting, animation, effects) using both XSI and proprietary game tools.
* Manage a team of Game Development Artists maintaining a high bar of quality.
* Scheduling, Tracking, and Organizing tasks and bugs
* Spec and oversee art features, development tools and processes.
* Work closely with designers, sound designers, and engineers to support their content and systems
* Testing your work in the real-time game environment
* Solve technical issues by tracking and fixing bugs.
* Offer comments and critique of art assets throughout the game.
* Ability to rapidly iterate on ideas and assets.
* Ability to adapt/independently solve problems/find workarounds to technical limitations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

* Expert knowledge of artistic techniques as they relate to 3D asset creation for video games and the ability to teach it to others
* Expert knowledge with significant 3D content creation tools (Maya, 3DSMax, Softimage XSI), Photoshop and other core tools and the ability to teach it to others
* Work with the art team to visually develop the look and feel of the game
* Excellent Understanding of what makes a game immersive, fun and play well.
* Excellent communication and team skills
* Ability to create and execute an accurate production schedule for your team
* Offer constructive criticism of the work of their subordinates and peers
* The ability to clearly communicate ideas and processes to other team members
* A strong familiarity of MMO development
