Pipeline Lighting TD

Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is seeking a Pipeline Lighting TD to help us embark on an exciting new CGI animated theatrical feature film.

Position Overview:

The Pipeline Lighting TD will work with the Pipeline and Lighting departments in the development and maintenance of lighting tools as well as perform floor support for technical issues.

Additionally, they will assist in the Lead role on a short term basis in the event of an absence or as production needs require it. They will participate in team meetings when necessary.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Partner with the Lead Pipeline Lighting TD to maintain, test and improve existing tools
Assist with R&D for new techniques and/or plug-ins for future workflows and tools
Assist Lighting Department with shot specific technical issues
Education & Experience:
2+ years’ experience in a similar position for feature animation and/or VFX production
Proficiency in Maya. Katana a bonus
Proficiency in Arnold and/or RenderMan
Strong understanding of modern lighting and rendering techniques
BC residents preferred, but not required

Skills & Abilities – Technical:

Strong aptitude for technical workflow
Python scripting
Strong problem-solving skills
Knowledge of Maya API/commands a plus
Knowledge of Qt and its extension within PySide/PyQt
An understanding of source control, with experience of git
Understanding of how render engines and lighting packages translate scenes, and how thisaffects artists, tools and workflow
Experience with Shotgun a plus

Skills & Abilities – Core:

Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities
Ability to communicate with and understand the requirements of the Lighting department
Excellent time management skills and capacity to take direction

Rigging Supervisor

Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is seeking a Rigging Supervisor for an exciting new feature film project.The Rigging Supervisor will oversee the development and maintenance of the studio’s proprietary rigs and ripping pipeline.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee the Rigging team to build robust character rigs to Theatrical Feature standards
Partner with the Animation team to maintain, test and improve existing rigs and RnD new techniques for future rigs
Maximize the use of existing assets while developing a flexible framework for future projects
Work with the Pipeline TDs and Animation Supervisor to develop and maintain rigging scripts and animation tools such as pose library and animation utilities for automating workflow.
Assist Animation Department with shot specific technical issues.
Develop crowd system to speed up layout and animation of highly populated shots.
Evaluate and recommend tools/plug-ins or software to help improve production output.
In collaboration with the Look Dev, CFX and Lighting Supervisors, ensure that rigged assets meet simulation, shading and lighting standards and that any requirements by said departments are met.
Provide accurate bid days and resource requirements to accomplish expected tasks on time and budget.
Attend regular Production Meetings prepared to represent issues and concerns as required.

Skills & Requirements:

5+ years of proven supervisory experience in feature animation and/or visual effects production.
Thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to character rigging and animation.
Understanding of puppet and control philosophy.
Excellent understanding of anatomy, volumes and masses, dynamics and character motion.
Excellent understanding of the animation process, from storyboard to modelling to texturing, animation and rendering.
Production knowledge of Maya, Python and MEL required.
BC residents preferred, but not required.

Look Development Supervisor

Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is hiring a Look Development Supervisor for an upcoming feature film project.

The Look Development Supervisor will oversee the look of assets as per direction from the Art and Design Department, in collaboration with the Lighting and Surfacing Supervisors. They need to use technical skill and aesthetic judgment in order to create final looks for assets that are of high production quality on a consistent basis. As the Look Development stage of production transitions to shot production, the Look Development Supervisor will give technical assistance as required to the Lighting department.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the team and creation of final looks for 3D characters and environments used in production.
Partner with the Lighting and Surfacing Supervisors to create shading workflows and help implement shading and texturing standards.
Work with the Lighting and Surfacing Supervisors to design and write custom shaders and shading networks to create desired looks for feature animation.
Help develop solutions for technical problems during shot production.

Skills & Requirements:

5+ years of proven supervisory experience in feature animation and/or visual effects production.
Demonstrate an excellent understanding of light, color, contrast, shading, and lighting design
Experience shading, lighting and rendering with Maya, RenderMan and/or Arnold. Experience with OSL a bonus.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Excellent communication skills and dedication to responsibilities.
Knowledge of Python and Mel with an ability to write code and assist in tool/pipeline R&D development helpful but not required.
BC residents preferred, but not required.

Production Coordinator

Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is seeking a Production Coordinator to help us embark on an exciting new CGI animated theatrical feature film.

Position Overview:

The primary emphasis is on coordinating specific departments while providing general support to the Production Manager and Producer. The ideal candidate is an excellent communicator who is extremely organized and proactive.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides administrative support to the production management team and supervisors
Under the guidance of the Production Manager, tracks progress of tasks for assigned artists or sequences in the production tracking system
Maintains production tracking system with revisions, and notifies the affected crew as needed
Follows up with Artists on a daily basis to ensure task deliveries remain on schedule
Communicates any schedule changes to appropriate Artist Leads, Supervisors and Production team as needed
Takes clear and accurate notes in all dailies and review sessions, and disseminates notes to all necessary parties
Generates and maintains production reports as needed
Coordinate and attend production meetings as required
Provides overall production support to the Production Manager and team

Skills & Requirements:

2+ years proven production experience in established Animation or VFX facility
Experience in highly technical, dynamic departments is a must
Experience with heavy schedule management in a time sensitive, deadline oriented atmosphere
Must be diligent, resourceful, meticulous and able to thrive under pressure
Thorough understanding of CG/VFX production pipelines is an asset
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Exceptional people skills and the ability to work within a team environment
Must be able to handle multiple changing priorities understand how this impacts departmental schedules
Able to communicate effectively across multiple teams
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Applications such as Word, Excel, Office
Experience with Shotgun Tracking System an asset

Storyboard Artist

Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is seeking a Storyboard Artist to help us embark on an exciting new CGI animated theatrical feature film.

Position Overview:

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled draftsperson with a minimum of three years of experience in boarding on animated features or high end animated tv shows. The artist must be comfortable pitching his or her storyboard in front of directors and fellow board artists.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Translates script into sequenced board panels
Draws boards from script within production schedule
Pitch boards to Story Supervisor and Directors

Skills & Requirements:

Minimum 3 years of experience in feature film or TV storyboard production
Expert drawing skills and solid understanding of staging and composition
Thorough understanding of cinematic techniques
Highly proficient in Photoshop
Familiarity with standard Storyboard software such as Sketchbook Pro
BC residents preferred but not required
