Previs Layout Supervisor

Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is looking for Previs/Layout Supervisor to help us embark on a new feature film project. The Previs/Layout Supervisor is a key leader who is responsible for creating the previsualization of the film and refining the final camera and composition of shots.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Oversee the team which creates sequences of shots that convey the story through the application of traditional filmmaking principles in a 3D computer environment
Establish character blocking, camera positioning and animate camera movement
Work with storyboards to create and enhance story through cinematic layout of shots
Work collaboratively with the team and Directors to ensure that the Previz/Layout team adheres to the vision set out by the Directors and the final storyboards
Work collaboratively with the coordination and supervising teams to ensure that the Previz/Layout team establishes shots and assets to the look, scale and composition standards set out by the various departments in order to help maintain scheduled deliveries
Establish the initial shot manifest as it is handed off to the animation department, taking careful consideration of continuity and applying very restricted use of ‘cheats’

Skills & Requirements:

5+ years of proven supervisory experience in feature animation and/or visual effects production
Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Commercial Arts, Engineering, Computer Science, Animation or other relevant area of study and/or equivalent job experience
Ability to lead, train and motivate other modelers/riggers
Demonstrated ability with Maya and popular sculpting packages such as zBrush and Mudbox for both hard surface and organic models of feature production quality
An understanding and experience in the creation and use of geometry assets in a production setting
Knowledge of polygonal and subdivision surface types
Life drawing and sculpting experience, a plus
Basic understanding of scripting and programming in Python, MEL a plus
Knowledge of anatomy and perspective coupled with an ability to accurately translate a 2D design into a 3D model
Knowledge of Xgen, Yeti or other procedural set dressing software a plus
Thorough understanding of animation production for film
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
BC residents preferred, but not required

Lead Environment Modeler

Cinesite Vancouver Inc. is looking for a Lead Environment Modeler to help us embark on an exciting new animated theatrical feature film.

Position Overview:

The Lead Environment Modeler is responsible for delivering high quality assets in an efficient manner. They will manage their team effectively to ensure tasks are completed within the assigned time frame. They will identify and troubleshoot problems as needed and will ask for assistance when necessary to ensure effective use of time and resources. They will participate in all team meetings when necessary. Applicants will have excellent communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with multiple tasks in a production.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with Modeling Supervisor and Art Director to realize aesthetic vision of the production
Manage time and resources to meet weekly targets
Create complex 3D environment models to be used in production
Demonstrated ability using Maya for the creation of both hard surface and organic models
Work within the defined pipeline
Produce the highest quality work possible within a given amount of time
An understanding and experience in the creation and use of geometry assets in a production setting
Work closely with the other departments in the asset team
Promote interdepartmental collaboration
Ensure all email correspondence and scheduling is up to date, responding to emails in a timely manner
Mentor and help train junior modelers
Participate in meetings and asset reviews
Utilize multitasking ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
Education and Experience:
5+ years’ experience creating high quality models for film
Thorough understanding of traditional art skills (form, architecture, anatomy, topology, color theory and UV mapping)

Skills & Requirements:

Technical Skills

Proficiency in Maya required
Experience with UV Mapping desired
Proficiency in Zbrush desired
Proficiency in LINUX/UNIX desired
Experience in Photoshop desirable

Core Skills

Ability to provide Supervisor with estimate of time to support Supervisors in the bidding process
Ability to troubleshoot and deal with competing priorities
Ability to take direction quickly to new technologies and applications
Ability to complete quality control on individual work
BC residents preferred, but not required
