Job Description

Crytek is looking for a Character Artist to support the Robinson: The Journey team in our Frankfurt, Germany based studio.

All 3D Character Artist Candidates must have a portfolio that demonstrates:

A good eye for character design.
Keen eye on detail and realism.
Organic character elements (such as a human face) and non-organic character elements (such as metal armor).
High polygon sculpting.
Texturing on game characters.
Ability to derive a well structured low-poly model from the high poly model.
Efficient UV layout for low-poly characters.
If coming from outside the game industry, new hires will be expected to learn/understand how game-play and real time issues can affect their work; they will be expected to develop techniques to compensate for such limitations.

Responsibilities:

With nominal direction, is responsible for:
Creating in-game characters from scratch following a concept art or art direction by keeping in mind and following the technical requirements.
Creating of textures (diffuse, normal map, specular, bump) needed to display a photorealistic human in game.
Working closely with Tech Art, and other dependant departments throughout the character production process.

Requirements:

3+ years of professional experience in a Character Artist capacity.
Good understanding of anatomy, and representing anatomy in topology.
Ability to create all textures needed for creating photorealistic looking humans.
Strong knowledge of human body structure and setup for facial animation.
Ability to create game ready assets that work well within the given technical limitations.
Preferably strong knowledge of 3DS Max or Maya and Adobe Photoshop.
Demonstrates a strong ability to create believable photorealistic human characters within a games engine.
Proficiency in Z-Brush or Mudbox.
Consistently demonstrates an excellent sense for detail.
Must be able to adapt to new technologies.
Ability to creatively translate concepts, ideas into authentic characters.
Good English communication and writing skills.
Keep a positive team-oriented attitude.
Be proactive and self-motivated, work without direct supervision.
Willing to relocate to Frankfurt am Main area, Germany.

Pluses:

A very strong understanding of: Experience with rigging, skinning or animation & Human Anatomy.

Senior Environment Artist

Crytek is looking for a creatively minded independent Senior Environment Artist for Robinson: The Journey who is used to collaborating closely with the Level Design department to create and oversee the creation of environment assets.

A portfolio or reel that demonstrates the following:

Highpoly environment models and their conversion into lowpoly models (strong understanding of the normal map creation process & PBR).
Ability to create game ready assets, that work well within the given technical limitations.
Very strong texturing skills and excellent knowledge of Adobe Photoshop.
Keen eye on detail and realism.
A strong sense for composition, color and light.
At least average drawing/painting skills.

Demonstratable history of:

Actively supporting art direction and art management.
Remaining faithful to a project’s art direction.
A desire to learn and grow professionally.
Knowledge about technical limitations in real time game engines and the ability to find answers to these limitations (LOD, draw calls reduction, etc.).
Being able to adapt to new technologies.
Tasks being completed within given time constraints.

Responsibilities:

Creating highpoly and lowpoly models of environmental objects (trees, bushes, props, buildings, tilesets).
Creating efficient UV layouts that work well within the engine/platform constrains.
Photorealistic Texturing of environmental objects.
Create tutorials, style guides, and technical guides to help communicate workflow and efficiency knowledge, as well as artistic expertise.
Define budgets for the given platforms.
Work closely together with the Art Director, Lead and other artists.
Collaborate with outsourcing partners, write briefs and give feedback.
Work independently on asset sets and oversee level art.
Approve and implement assets coming from outsourcing partners.
Define work processes together with the Art and Project Managers.

Requirements:

5+ years of professional game production experience.
Console experience, preferably Next Generation.
Evidence of being a leader and role model, within their trade.
A strong ability to create believable environments within a games engine.
Ability to derive a well structured lowpoly model from the high poly model.
Strong understanding of efficient UV layout for lowpoly objects.
Strong understanding of the PBR pipeline.
Strong understanding of modular level creation methods.
Strong knowledge of 3dsmax, Photoshop and Zbrush / Mudbox.
The ability to manage and supervise mid-level and junior artists and willingness to carry out mentorship tasks.
A strong understanding of shader functionality.

The Journey team is looking for a creatively minded and driven Senior FX Artist who can communicate well with programmers to develop cutting edge particle and onscreen effects for games.
Candidate must be proficient in a diverse set of software including Photoshop, 3ds Max / Maya, etc. Experience with real time effects for video games is a necessity.

Responsibilities:

Working with Level Designers, Artists and Programmers to create real time special effects for environments, weapons, explosions, onscreen effects, etc. within the platforms limitations.
Creation of real time particle systems via CryEngine.
Implementation and optimization of shader based effects (if needed together with shader programmer).
Collaboration with other FX-Artists on the team to ensure consistent quality across the game.
Texture creation using available graphic applications.
Population of effects in game using a CryEngine editing tools.
Solving technical issues that arise with new tools or game performance.

Requirements:

4+ years of professional next-gen visual effects development on PC and console hardware (Xbox360/Xbox1, PS3/PS4).
Experience with and a good working knowledge of the limitations and expectations of next generation hardware.
Excellent working knowledge of 3D Max/Maya and Photoshop.
Excellent art sense (e.g. knowledge of composition, color, lighting, movement, etc).

The Senior Cinematic Designer is responsible for the development and incorporation of story-based events into the game. They are responsible for developing and testing interactive and non-interactive story and level events, including how it plays, in conjunction with the Level Design and Creative Direction and interfacing with Technical Development Teams.

Responsibilities:

Scripting, Layout, and incorporation out of in-game and/or pre-rendered cutscenes, level locations and cutscene elements using the CryEngine Sandbox Editor.
Work closely with Cinematic Lead and/or Director to assure a high degree of quality on all cutscenes.
Work closely with the Level Design and Game Design team to incorporate cinematics and scripted events as smoothly as possible into the game.
Mentor and supervise less experienced designers to increase overall scene design quality.
Assist in documentation of cinematic development processes and techniques.
