DHX Studios – Vancouver is looking for talented Character Designers with previous production experience to work with our My Little Pony, Equestria Girls production team! We’re looking for portfolios that show a strong understanding of human/creature form, a variety of styles, mouthcharts, handcharts, and turnarounds, and a keen eye for fashion!

Responsibilities

Working with our Art Director and other Designers to create engaging, performable characters according to the style of the production
Translating character description and attitude from script to visual design

Qualifications

About the Position

We are currently reviewing applications from artists interested in joining our team as Layout Artists to join our 2D team! You should be well-rounded, a skilled illustrator, have a strong sense of timing for animation, an eye for appealing, funny, poppy and snappy posing, and (ideally) previous experience on at least one animated television series.

Responsibilities

Working under the direction of the Layout Supervisors to create high quality 2D Flash animation sequence by finding the storytelling poses from the board, improving upon them, and putting them on model
Spelling out complex actions in a variety of ways for the next stage in the pipeline (animation) using existing character and prop builds
Drawing in Flash to create designs/poses for animation sequences and layouts
Working within production deadlines to meet assigned weekly quotas and expectations

Qualifications

About the Position

DHX Studios – Vancouver is looking for a creative and experienced Development Hair/Cloth TD to join our team and assist in the development of our Hair/Cloth Simulations department. Your creative and technical skills will be pushed to the boundaries as you flex your talents on high quality productions. This role is a key addition to our Development team, which is responsible for the development of new animated projects and pipeline R&D. The successful candidate will be highly motivated to push the boundaries of what is creatively possible and be passionate about R&D.

Responsibilities

Creation of innovative and believable hair and cloth simulations which meet required design aesthetic
Groom and shade hair and fur assets
Provide ongoing support and integration of hair and cloth assets in to the pipeline
Create hair and cloth simulations for shot work in production
Mentor FX artists in production in regards to workflow and production best practices

Communicate with Modelling Lead, Animation Lead, and CG Supervisor about production issues
Work collaboratively with design, modelling, rigging and animation teams

Qualifications

3+ years of related production experience in Maya as a Character TD or Simulations Artist
Thorough understanding of simulation techniques and technologies

DHX Studios – Vancouver is seeking an experienced Rigging Supervisor for our 3D team. As the Rigging Supervisor you work collaboratively with various departments to achieve the intended performance requirements and keep current with evolving rigging technologies. Your primary responsibility is to create highly versatile character rigging systems and animation interfaces. The rigs will be used for the animation of 3D characters and props. The Rigging Supervisor provides mentorship and guidance to Riggers.

Responsibilities

Foster and enable communication and collaboration across departments
Work closely with the Pipeline team to improve rigging technology
Evaluate, research, and recommend techniques and ideas to improve production
Actively participate in production-related meetings by offering thoughts and ideas

Accurately estimate time and resource needs to ensure project deadlines are met

Qualifications

4+ years of experience in the animation or film industry, specifically in FX departments
Excellent understanding of CGI production and pipelines
Excellent understanding of Maya’s FX systems (particles, fluids, bifrost) is a must
Excellent understanding of compositing packages using Nuke is a must

About the Position

We are currently seeking a Producer to apply their considerable experience and expertise in the production of a 2D animated TV series! This includes overseeing all aspects of production planning for animation – from scripts, voice records, storyboards, animation and post-production through delivery to broadcasters. You must have strong knowledge of the 2D animation and production process which will aid in establishing strategies for meeting key deliverables and milestones, and additional experience with Flash is a definite asset.
