Designer – 3D

DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Designer to join our team!
DHX Studios – Vancouver is looking for a Designer to execute key designs and create original concepts for one of our productions. This position is responsible for maintaining the show style and ensuring that the designs work within the story specifications.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

Create original designs on show style according to production schedule
Work closely with the Art Director and Lead Designer to keep designs manageable and complete work within the scheduled timeframe
Collaborate creatively with the design and modelling departments
Keep current with scripts and animatics to inform design choices
Learn and adhere to established production methodology
Identify and communicate any issues, concerns or efficiencies to Lead Designer
Participate in production & departmental meetings by offering thoughts and ideas
Work collaboratively within the team

WHAT YOU BRING:

1-2 years of experience in production design for animation
Design education is an asset, but not required
Strong drawing and colour fundamentals
3D design and modelling experience a definite asset
Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
Able to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
Able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
Strong problem solving skills

BONUS POINTS IF YOU:

Have experience designing vehicles and mechanical objects
Have a dog to bring to the studio (we always need more canine talent!)

Previs Editor – 3D – Mega Man

Want to make awesome cartoons with amazingly talented teams in a cool new studio?
DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Previs Editor to join our team!

Do you have a strong understanding of editing 3D mechanics?
Are you skilled at editing action sequences?
And most importantly are you a fan of Mega Man?

As a Previs Editor for Mega Man you will have the opportunity edit action sequences and keep an eye out for camera movements and positioning. We are looking for someone with a good communication and problem solving skills who can pick apart shots and piece together scenes.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

Edit scenes in Avid
Work closely with the Previs department to acquire all shots
Edit sound effects and music
Maintain quality control and ensure that fixes are addressed in a timely manner
Assist directors with day-to-day production needs
Organize all incoming content and source material for editorial purposes
Maintain the episode re-use shot lists
Manage editorial project/media files efficiently
Participate in post meetings and adjust/refine work as indicated by post production supervisor
Anticipate, communicate, and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues

WHAT YOU BRING:

2-3 years of Editorial experience (understanding of 3D animation required)
Strong understanding of post procedures, production and workflow
Must have a strong understanding of Avid editing techniques
Previous experience editing on an episodic series is a plus
Understanding of Previs workflow
Understanding of camera positioning
Experience editing action sequences
Good communication skills and a collaborative attitude
Degree or Diploma from a recognized film production school an asset
Ability to organize and manage time effectively to meet deadlines
Proactive thinker with creative problem solving skills
Strong interpersonal skills and the desire to work as part of a team
Strong organizational skills

Senior Pipeline TD – 3D

DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced Senior Pipeline TD to join our team!

We are looking for a Senior Pipeline TD with a strong background in look development to develop and support the shading, lighting, and rendering pipeline, as well as core technologies including Vray, Renderman, Nuke, and Maya. Must have a strong understanding of lighting and rendering workflows and look development as well as a technical understanding of AOVs/frame buffers, render farm and compositing.

This role is part of the pipeline department and you’ll be working in conjunction with the show leads and lighting artists.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

Support and troubleshoot common rendering, lighting and compositing issues, including render optimization
Develop and support core tools for shading, lighting and compositing departments.
Maintain, debug and update existing tools and code base when needed
Create and maintain documentation of our processes and tools for others to learn from
Test and debug tools and process prior to release to ensure stability and usability
In conjunction with the Pipeline and Lighting team, integrate additional renderers such as Renderman, Arnold, or Redshift into the pipeline as needed
Assist active and future productions with defining workflow and process for the lighting teams.
Work closely with Pipeline team and Producer to ensure best practices are followed and in place
Research new techniques as needed to meet the needs of production teams on the floor
Support production’s ability to ensure deadlines are met
Be proactive, forward thinking and collaborative with others
Actively participate in production-related meetings by offering thoughts and ideas
Be a positive and creative force on the team

WHAT YOU BRING:

5+ years of experience in developing for the film or broadcast industries.
Excellent understanding of Maya is a must
Excellent understanding of Vray and/or Renderman is a must.
Advanced knowledge of Python is a must
Working experience in writing shaders using OSL and/or C++ is a big plus
Excellent understanding in texturing, shading, lighting and comp workflows
Excellent communication, troubleshooting and debugging skills
An understanding of the episodic process and workflow is a plus

3D Pipeline Supervisor

DHX Media – Vancouver is looking for an experienced 3D Pipeline Supervisor to join our team!

We are looking for a 3D Pipeline Supervisor to develop, manage, and maintain the 3D pipeline for our Vancouver studio. Strong leadership and management abilities are necessary for this role.

WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:

Partner with the Pipeline Producer to effectively prioritize and manage the pipeline team’s task assignments, while collaboratively establishing the pipeline roadmap
Effectively leverage the skillset in the pipeline team to support and maintain an efficient technical workflow appropriate to episodic production
Work with pipeline team to efficiently maintain pipeline tickets, effectively communicating priorities and rollouts to production
Oversee and manage the effective and stable implementation of new code to the existing code base
Anticipate pipeline development challenges and identify solutions with the Pipeline Producer
Partner with CG Supervisors, leads and heads of departments to support their technical and creative approach for production
Alongside the Pipeline Producer, collaborate with production management to ensure they have what they need to achieve their team’s milestones
Work closely with production, pipeline and development to implement software, toolsets, and workflow solutions for the studio while determining resource requirements
Meet with leads on the shows to support production and artist concerns including debugging, troubleshooting and managing fixes
Motivate and manage the pipeline team through demonstrated leadership and positive presence
Support and encourage a collaborative team approach
Clearly identify and establish performance expectations for direct reports
Create and recommend show/facility-based scripts and tools as needed
Act as a liaison communicating technical issues to IT, Production and Development as needed
Keep up-to-date on the latest research and industry developments

WHAT YOU BRING:

5+ years experience as a Pipeline Supervisor in the animation or film or software industry
Extensive experience developing for CG applications such as Maya and Nuke
Advanced knowledge of networking and performance issues that arise with automated tools
A degree or equivalent in Computer Graphics, Computer Science or other related course
Thorough understanding of the entire production process, including modeling, texturing, animation, rigging, rendering, compositing and FX creation
Experience with Linux and Windows is required
Experience scripting with Python
Experience scripting or writing plugins for Maya and Nuke
Working knowledge and understanding of C/C++ or other object-oriented programming language
Experience with databases such as MySQL is required
Knowledge of Subversion, CVS, Git or other revision control system
Good understanding of database-based applications such as Shotgun and Qube
Knowledge and experience working with a large render farm
Excellent problem-solving skills
Highly motivated with the ability to work under pressure
Excellent communication skills with the ability to delegate and mentor people and projects
Detail-oriented with a strong ability to multitask
Strong working knowledge of 3D software packages and pipelines
Understanding of episodic, direct to video, feature film production methodologies
