Summary:

The Animation Technical Directors are responsible for improving the overall efficiency of the facility-wide
Animation pipeline. They design, implement, and manage tools that assist the Animators with their daily
use of both third party and in-house software and systems. These tools are intended to make
Animation/Character production as efficient and productive as possible. Animation TDs work with peers
and supervisors to craft novel tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of current projects
and advance the capabilities of the facility. They also support Animators in tracking down technical
problems with rigs, models, tools or data flow. The role requires strong technical and excellent
communication/”customer service” skills, as well as a firm understanding of software design, graphics,
and production work flow.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

High emphasis on translation of Animator feature requests and workflow discussions into
practical designs and tool implementation that integrate with the production pipeline
Continually looking for ways to optimize the efficiency/workflow for Animation
Work with department representatives to augment their work flows and tool sets to achieve
specific goals of the project
Interface with departments both up and downstream, to facilitate the smooth flow of assets
through the pipeline
Work with artists to troubleshoot and fix problems
Ensure animation tools and workflows follows studio policies and guidelines.
Work closely with other Technical Directors to maintain and further the entire production
pipeline
Craft and update documentation for tools, techniques and work flows generated by the Technical
Director

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

3+ years experience as a Technical Director with a focus on Animation or Rigging pipelines
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics a plus
Expert knowledge of Maya required
Proficiency in Python APIs and Mel scripting language
Must have written and supported animation and/or rigging tools used significantly in production
Experience with tool integration into existing or new pipelines
Working experience with one or more additional professional graphics packages, including
Houdini, and Nuke
Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and work with minimal
supervision
Excellent communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups

Layout Artist

Summary:
The Layout Artist works under the Layout Lead as part of a team to pre-determine scene and shot set-up
including camera, environment and character composition for use by the Animation Department.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Under minimal supervision, use and occasionally create, digital assets including character and
backgrounds to interpret scenes and shots as visualized by the Director.
Provide other creative departments within the show environment with layout source art created
in 3D.
Collaborate with Supervisors and Leads to determine technical and creative approach to scene
layouts.
Tracks shot progress through entire layout process. Archives all project files, renders, and source
images.
Take direction from Supervisors and Leads as well as provide guidance and mentorship to other
Layout Artists.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent experience.
2+ years experience in feature film or television production
Extensive training in and/or strong understanding of the principles of story-telling, art and film.
Demonstrated proficiency in scene, shot, camera, and character composition is required.
Modeling, lighting, texturing and animation experience strongly desired.
Knowledge of terminology and techniques used in film, animation and visual effects including
basic knowledge of photography and camera lenses necessary.
Demonstrated proficiency using Maya, or 3Ds max required. Proficiency in other applications
such as Photoshop and After Effects is desired.
Ability to work under pressure as well as implement changes based on input from multiple
sources.
Ability to multi-task and work efficiently in a multi-user environment.
Excellent organizational and communication skills a must.

Lighting Artist

Create photorealistic CG lighting that meets all technical and aesthetic standards for the project.
Complete tasks within production deadlines while being largely self-directed.
Be able to troubleshoot common rendering and lighting technical issues, including ray tracing
render optimization.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

A wide range of experience and skills that can be used to resolve complex issues in creative and
effective ways.
3+ years experience creating photorealistic lighting for live-action feature films in Maya and
Renderman, Mental Ray or Vray.
Experience with Katana and/or Arnold a plus.
Extensive experience in a wide range of CG Lighting techniques and technical methods.
Experience with HDRs and image based lighting.
Ability to troubleshoot and debug common rendering issues.
Python or C++ experience in production is ideal.
Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Paint / Roto Artist

 2+ years industry roto and paint experience.

3+ years of experience creating photorealistic textures for feature films in Mari with experience
in Maya ideal.
Extensive experience working with photographic elements to create textures.
Understanding of color spaces and working in a linear-lighting pipeline.
Extensive experience editing and generating UVs.
Mari, Photoshop, Zbrush, Body Paint experience is preferred.
Photorealistic modeling, look development or lighting experience is a plus.
Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
Leading or mentoring experience is a plus.

Production Coordinator Visual Effects

Summary:
The Production Coordinator is responsible for the assignment and tracking of tasks for assigned
area of responsibility. Facilitates the movement of shots between teams, coordinates daily
reviews, and communicates status updates to ensure the delivery of shots on schedule. Provides
administrative support to the production management team and show supervisors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Under the guidance of the DP or DPM, schedules and tracks progress of tasks for
assigned artists or sequences in the production tracking system
Maintains production tracking system and show board with revisions, omits, and shot
length changes; notifies the affected crew as needed
Partners with other Production personnel to ensure shots are scheduled and delivered in
a timely manner
Follows up with artists on a daily basis to ensure task deliveries remain on schedule;
communicates any schedule changes to appropriate artists, Supervisors and Production
team as needed
Coordinates all client deliveries, both physical deliveries and digital deliveries via FTP,
with Production Services department; maintains log of all deliveries
Manages meeting schedule and walkthroughs for Supervisors; publishes notes as needed
Responsible for setup of dailies, nightlies, and all client reviews in the Screening Room
and view stations; publishes notes for all review sessions
Leads nightly production update for assigned area of responsibility
Acts as primary point of contact for internal Editorial
Completes reference research for elements for Supervisors and area leads
Oversees run requests and petty cash
This is a cross departmental position that will require management of pipeline issues
Liaison with Production Coordinator in Venice Studio to coordinate cross discipline tasks,
deliveries, questions, statuses and approvals

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field
3+ years production experience in visual effects or feature animation
Demonstrable experience in highly technical, dynamic departments is a must
Experience with heavy schedule management in a very time sensitive atmosphere
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required; experience with
production tracking software and asset management software a plus
Highly developed communication skills to facilitate interdepartmental needs and
schedules required
Ability to juggle multiple tasks in a high pressure environment
