Animator, Lead

Classification: Contract
Purpose of the job:

The Lead Animator will be responsible for leading a team of Animators in producing animated elements,
shots and sequences under the direction of the Animation Supervisor. The Lead Animator will also will be
expected to deliver key frame animation as well as animation using motion capture data to be used in a live
action feature film or commercial.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Advanced general animation, character animation skills.
Strong knowledge of Modeling, Lighting, and FX and how they interact with animation work..
Prior experience in supervising.
Demonstrable ability to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas.
Ensure that the highest quality of animation is being achieved.
Identify and address personnel problems at a Team level.
Oversee the daily activities of animators.
Be aware of the capabilities of the animators and advise the Animation Supervisor accordingly.
Support the Animation Supervisor to ensure that the highest quality of animation is being achieved on
schedule.
Facilitate and/or support technical aspects of animation production.
Attend production meetings with Animation Team.
Work with the Animation Supervisor & Animation Team to meet the needs of the clients.
Help determine resource requirements in concert with the Animation Supervisor

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

Qualifying collegiate or graduate degrees and awards are preferred, but not required.
Person should have at least 1 year of applicable supervisory experience, in addition to 5 years
production-related experience.
Candidate should be an expert Maya user, with demonstrable technical and artistic achievements.
Other animation software experience (e.g., 3DS Max, Houdini, Proprietary Packages) are considered
a plus

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:

Office working environment.
Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending
production needs.

Walking/bending/sitting.

Compositing Lead Job Description
Location: Vancouver, BC

Summary:

The Lead compositor assists the CG Sup and/or Comp Sup and Producer to bid, schedule and execute the
compositing production schedule. Day-to-day, they assign and delegate work to the team and monitor
shot progress to meet aesthetic and deadline expectations set by the creative supervisors.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Assists Comp Sup, CG Sup, and Producer with bidding and scheduling
Staffing recommendations in collaboration with supervisors and managers
Interviews and reviews potential candidates with manager when requested
Is involved in look development or delegates to senior compositor
Attends dailies and follows up with team regarding notes, fixes, etc.
Monitors shot and sequence progress and informs Comp/CG/VFX sup
Color grading and management of sequence continuity
Identifies problems and effectively implements solutions
Responsible for quality control on the team’s composites
Composites complex shots if needed
Mentors less experienced artists

Upon completion of project if requested:
o Documentation and element archiving
o Provides in-depth feedback of compositing crew to Managers

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

Minimum 5 years experience
Understanding of photography, composition, lighting, color and motion
Aesthetically and creatively capable of producing high-quality images
Demonstrated leadership experience and qualities
Strong communication skills
Time management and organizational skills
Professional in all dealings with Production, Sup and crew

Editor VFX

Job Description

Summary:

The Editor incorporates all required versions (from animatics through to final composites) of visual effects
shots into the current cuts of live action sequences for the review of Supervisor and Producers. He also
maintains a functioning environment where the Visual Effects Supervisor can evaluate any version of any
shot in the current sequences for aesthetic and technical direction. The Editor is the liaison between
vendor facility and client VFX editorial department.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Receive/process client count sheets and line-up info and translates data into the internal facility shot
online database (SHOTGUN)
Checks plate frames received to guarantee the frames the facility received can indeed complete the shot
as intended by the client
Publish EDL / Quicktimes to our internal dailies system using a GUI interface or command line T-shell
script
Convert Quicktimes to various codec/resolution specs per client or facility needs
Works with reference footage provided by client / facility to extract frame sequences and send ref to our
internal database system
Works with audio files to provide animation team with sync sound for dialogue/action
Drive Avid playback for client and internal supervisor review sessions
Creates Avidref JPEG frame sequences that represent client’s creative intent for each shot at correct
frame length for final delivery
Upon show completion assists with how-to/making of shot reels and final archive of shots/sequences to
D5 tape

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

4-5 years industry experience with Avid Media Composer (including High Definition projects)
Experienced with using timelines, client media consolidations, Avid effects, titles, etc. to complete work
Knowledge of Final Cut Pro a plus
Familiar with Cinesync for client tele-conference review calls
Knowledge of computer network and operating systems
Excellent client relation and communications skills

Position Summary:
The Environments Artist role is to create or recreate a fully synthetic environment with a team that works
and operates within a big visual effects pipeline, using tools and techniques to optimize and streamline
the generated content.

Requirements:

– Thorough understanding of a 3D and 2.5D (projection) pipeline.
– Experience with basic modeling, uv-ing, texturing and lighting.
– Experience with basic compositing.
– Preferably technical knowledge of lenses and camera body’s (filmback, distortion etc).
– Being able to use photographic content from different media appropriately in set re-creation
(stills, HDRI etc).
– Experience in working in a world-scale environment versus single shots.
– Demonstrates the ability to be proactive and anticipate the needs of dependent departments.
– Translate concept art into photorealistic environments.

Skills:

Minimum 3 years experience with large scale environments work in a high-end feature film
pipeline required. Live-action/VFX experience preferred.

– General experience with the following software:

Maya
Photoshop
NUKE

Summary:

Our Lead Lighting Artists are responsible for the lighting design and rendering techniques used
throughout the project. Managing the team of lighting artists to ensure the delivery of their work on
time as well as provide the necessary creative support based on the CG Supervisor’s feedback. Lastly,
maintaining and improving the lighting pipeline closely with the CG Supervisor is key.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Determine the specific passes needed for each sequence closely with the Comp Supervisor
• Provide additional shader revisions to continuously improve the look and address feedback
from CG Supervisors
• Design and implement lighting master rigs used throughout sequences suitable for delivering
the required passes and the correct look
• Review render reports and assess rendering progress, average times and consistent errors
• Ensure that all elements provided to lighting artists comply with the requirements established
by Look Development Artists

Requirements:

• Experience with Maya and Renderman or a Raytracer is essential
• Completion of University (or equivalent) and/or at least 5 years relevant experience
• 6+ years of experience creating photorealistic lighting for feature films in Maya and Renderman
or VRay
• Proven experience in leading a team of artists highly preferred
• Python or C++ experience in production is a plus

replace live action footage.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Works closely with Supervisors to produce painting and elements that matches concept
Provide or acquire photographic reference materials

2D and 3D paintings for digital environments including:
Camera Setup
Modeling for Projection
Camera Animation
Projection Setup
Image Re-Projection
Atmospherics and Light Passes

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

5-8 years experience in feature films creating photorealistic environments
Degree in art, industrial design or painting preferred
Experience working in a stereoscopic film pipeline/environment strongly desired
Knowledge of Photoshop a must
Understanding of Nuke or compositing software desired
3ds Max and/or Maya knowledge a plus
Vue and Deep Paint knowledge a plus

Strong knowledge of advanced matte painting techniques including color space, digital paint
techniques and Photoshop file management (be it file format, bit depth resolution or appropriate
layering of elements)

Good knowledge and ability with perspective, value matching, and motion
Good knowledge of camera focal lengths and composition
Knowledge of film resolution and aspect ratios
Strong time management in relation to deadlines
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
