Digital Matte Painter

Summary:
The Matte Painter creates photorealistic paintings that are used as an element to either embellish or
replace live action footage.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Works closely with Supervisors to produce painting and elements that matches concept
Provide or acquire photographic reference materials
2D and 3D paintings for digital environments including:
Camera Setup
Modeling for Projection
Camera Animation
Projection Setup
Image Re-Projection
Atmospherics and Light Passes

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

5-8 years experience in feature films creating photorealistic environments
Degree in art, industrial design or painting preferred
Experience working in a stereoscopic film pipeline/environment strongly desired
Knowledge of Photoshop a must
Understanding of Nuke or compositing software desired
3ds Max and/or Maya knowledge a plus
Vue and Deep Paint knowledge a plus
Strong knowledge of advanced matte painting techniques including color space, digital paint techniques and Photoshop file management (be it file format, bit depth resolution or appropriate layering of elements)
Good knowledge and ability with perspective, value matching, and motion
Good knowledge of camera focal lengths and composition
Knowledge of film resolution and aspect ratios
Strong time management in relation to deadlines
Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Hard Surface Modeler

Summary:
The Hard Surface Modeler will produce photorealistic models from scratch and see them through the modeling pipeline from start to finish.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Create photorealistic models from scratch
Interpret 2d artwork into 3D models that meet all technical and aesthetic standards for the project.
Complete tasks within production deadlines while being largely self-directed.
Be able to provide guidance and mentorship to other modelers.
Work closely with the texture artists to ensure all models work smoothly within the texture pipeline as well as the modeling pipeline.
Work closely with the riggers in the case of character models to ensure models work smoothly within the rigging pipeline as well as the modeling pipeline.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

3+ years of experience creating photorealistic models for feature films in Maya
Experience with Hardsurface character, vehicles, props and/or environments modeling.
Experience working from 2D reference required.
Experience working from cyberscan and motion capture data a plus.
Zbrush and Mudbox experience is preferred. Cyslice experience is a plus.
Photorealistic texture painting and lighting experience is a plus.
Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.

Pipeline Supervisor

Summary:
As a strong, technically knowledgeable leader, this role oversees and is accountable for long-term facility planning and implementation of an efficient and effective pipeline that allows artists to focus on creating the highest quality images while working within an established production timeframe and budget. The Pipeline Supervisor directly manages the technology aspects of the Show, overseeing the configuration of the production pipeline and enhancing facility wide performance for a given Production

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Drives the Core Building block, Process and Idealized Pipeline Implementations for Digital Productions and Pipeline Projects.

Anticipates pipeline development challenges and identifies solutions with team of DFX .
Supervisors, CG Supervisors and Software Engineers.
Participates in show approach planning with key stake holders and attends weekly project technology status meetings.
Balances short term show needs with long-term strategic requirements and priorities, giving instruction to the Global Supervisors when necessary for action.
Responsible for resource negotiation of staff with Production to ensure adequate coverage of technology areas.Including resource allocation, show staffing, and shortage/overhire determination.
Assist the Global Pipeline Supervisor in expressing the studio pipeline evolution plan properly to the Senior Executive staff and studio at large.
Partners with Production to help lead a working group of TDs, Software Engineers, show Supervisors, department Supervisors, and key Digital Artist leaders to continually monitor, maintain, and enhance facility wide performance for Production across multiple locations.
Acts as an escalation point for Supervisors, Production Management, and Artist.
Management to resolve conflicts; ensures limited resources are effectively utilized and artists efficiently tasked by matching artist skill set to assignment identifying cross-utilization opportunities whenever possible.
Promotes a positive and productive work environment and leads collaborative efforts across the facility.
Ensures effective communication between DFX Supervisors, CG Supervisors, and Area Leads to ensure critical information is shared across shows.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

BS or MS in Computer Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent.
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in feature film on the post-production side required.
3-5 years management/leadership of software, pipeline, or technology teams required.
Ability to write code in Mel, Python, C++ and assist in tool/pipeline development.
Strong working knowledge of multiple 2D and 3D software packages and pipelines required.
Experience with large-scale visual effects or animation pipeline required.
Demonstrated organizational, problem solving, and project management skills required.
Must have strong leadership qualities with the ability to effectively delegate and mentor both technical and creative individuals.
An experienced and honed creative eye required.
Must be able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Proven ability to drive initiatives while maintaining perspective on company goals.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to establish priorities, multi-task efficiently, and work with diverse personalities and all levels of management and technical staff in a high-pressure environment.

Pipeline Technical Director

Summary:
Pipeline Technical Directors are responsible for improving the overall efficiency of the facility-wide production pipeline. They design,implement,and manage tools that assist the digital artists with their daily use of both third party and in-house software and systems.
These tools are intended to make the computer graphics production as efficient and productive as possible.Pipeline TDs work with peers and supervisors to craft novel tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of the current project and advance the capabilities of the facility. The role requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as a firm understanding of software design, graphics, and production work flow.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Work with other TDs and artists to help design and create tools to be integrated into Digital Domain’s existing pipeline. These tools will be created using a combination of custom and commercial Python and C++ APIs, including those applicable to Nuke, Maya and Houdini, depending upon the emphasis of the specific role.
Work with department representatives to augment their work flows and tool sets to achieve specific goals of the project.
Work with artists to troubleshoot and fix problems.
Craft and update documentation for tools, techniques and work flows generated by the Technical Director.

Education, Experience and Skills Required:

3+ years experience as a Technical Director.
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience.
Practical knowledge of Python strongly desired, knowledge of PyQt a plus.
Working experience with one or more professional graphics packages, including Maya, Houdini, and Nuke.
Proficiency in one or more professional graphics package C++/Python APIs, including the Maya SDK, HDK, Nuke SDK, Mental Ray SDK, and PrmanSDK preferred.
Proficiency in applicable domain specific programming language(s) including Mel, Hscript, RSL, MetaSL.
