FX Lead – Vancouver, BC

The FX Lead will oversee and provide continuity for a team of FX artists who will be designing and
implementing a variety of fx elements, ranging from particle simulations and fluid solves to rigid body
dynamics and other fx techniques.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
Lead an FX crew to deliver per the productions goals and expectations.
Design and create images, elements and effects.
Assist with coding and providing support and documentation for tools created.
Solid understanding of Houdini and hscripts.
Develop FX systems and use previously developed FX Systems.
Work with a range of departments to achieve goals.
Multi-task on multiple shots and be willing to answer questions and mentor other artists.
Stay informed of current technologies and attempt to implement them effectively.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required
6 + years of experience involving simulations of natural phenomenon, particle systems,
procedural modeling, procedural animation, hard and soft body dynamics and other similar
Experience with high-end 3D software – Houdini required, Maya a plus.
Must have strong visual and technical skills .
Ability to work collaboratively in a production environment.
Experience writing scripts (hscripts, Python) and/or programming is necessary.
An understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena is key.

Rigging Pipeline TD – Venice

Job Title: Rigging Pipeline TD Department: Software – 6001
Reports to: Character Technology Architect Status: Non-exempt
Classification: Full Time, Staff Date: April 2013

Purpose of the job:
The Rigging Pipeline TD participates in a variety of development and support tasks focused on
the continued advancement of Digital Domain’s character technology pipeline. The primary focus
of this role is to help streamline how character rigs are produced, delivered, and consumed in
our Features production pipeline. This TD will be charged with maintaining tight integration
amongst the database, scripts and tools that interface with the rigs in production. The Rigging
Pipeline TD will also develop and hone artist tools and UIs that improve the user experience of
Rigging’s downstream clients (animation, characterFX & lighting). The Rigging Pipeline TD will
take direction from the Facility Rigging Supervisor and serve as a rigging representative in the
Pipeline Department.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:
The Rigging Pipeline TD is responsible for providing software solutions and support to the
Rigging Department and the artists that use the rigs. This requires strong programming,
problem-solving, and communication skills. Specifically, the responsibilities include:
Design and development of Python applications, which interface with Digital Domain’s
proprietary tools and Maya.
Design and development of public APIs to provide access to core facility services and
third-party applications.
Day-to-day support of character pipeline tools, including interacting with users to
troubleshoot issues; design and implement improved processes and tools.
Design and development of tools that maintain software and asset parity between
multiple DD locations.
Maintain and develop existing UIs and other proprietary applications.

Education and/or Experience Required:
 College degree in Computer Science preferred.
 3+ years Python programming experience.
 2+ years experience with PyQt / PySide development and general Maya UI tools.
 Programming experience with Maya is required.
 Solid knowledge of Maya rigging and animation tools including file referencing, skinning,
Maya deformers, expressions, utility nodes, and other custom deformers.
 Experience interfacing with databases through standard Python libraries
 Experience with web servers and web server frameworks is useful.
 Must be detail oriented, organized, have good communication skills, and be able to
independently handle a variety of tasks in an efficient manner.

Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:
 Office working environment.
 Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours
pending production needs.
 Walking/bending/sitting.
