Purpose of the job:
The Facial Data Processor will work with data generated by the Mova facial capture system, winner of a 2015 Technical Achievement Award from the Motion Picture Academy and used most recently in Pixels, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Terminator: Genisys, Guardians of the Galaxy, and Night at the Museum 3: Secret of the Tomb. Successful candidates will join a production team that includes inventors of the Mova system
The Facial Data Processor is responsible for turning raw, high fidelity Mova facial data into production-ready animation assets used in the creation of realistic digital characters for Digital Domain and other VFX houses.
Process facial motion capture data through a multi-step, flexible production pipeline
Use a toolkit that may include proprietary software, Python scripts, and Maya (using custom tools, Mel scripts, and Maya’s interactive tools for modeling and animation)
Perform various tasks similar to modeling, such as the alignment of individual vertices on meshes or the fitting of meshes to facial scans
Work with scans of heads and actor face meshes
Work with large sequences of files in Windows and possibly Linux file systems
Work within a show structure and production deadlines to complete all tasks
Take direction from the Mova Lead and the Head of the Facial Mocap Pipeline
Experience and Skills Required:
College degree in film, art, or a related field and/or a combination of education and experience that would be equivalent to that level of professionalism, problem solving, and analytical skills.
Experience with other facial mocap processing is best but not absolutely necessary
Experience with motion capture, matchmoving, or the modeling and rigging of faces is valuable
Keen interest in facial anatomy, motion, animation, and motion capture in general
Extremely meticulous, discriminating eye, high attention to detail
Adept at recognizing visual patterns
Should be comfortable with:
Navigating through file systems on Windows
Working with large sequences of files
Command-line launching of scripts
Basic modeling and animation tools in Maya
Creatively sequencing processes to solve problems
Working Conditions and Environment/Physical Demands:
Office working environment.
Hours for this position are based on normal working hours but will require extra hours pending production needs.
