VFX Producer

Description

Purpose of the job:

The VFX Producer is responsible for administering the show visual effects budget and partners with the facility VFX Supervisor to oversee all resources required to produce high quality work on schedule. This position acts as the primary liaison between Digital Domain and the client VFX team.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Reviews client materials (scripts, storyboards, and pre-vis) with VFX Supervisor and technical supervisors in order to generate visual effects breakdowns and bid
Oversees client correspondence and acts as primary liaison with all client side parties
Supports VFX Supervisor in client reviews and facilitates feedback to client
Identifies potential production problems and works with Executive Producer and VFX Supervisor to ensure creative decisions can be completed within budget and on schedule
Manages all requirements for client live action, element, or miniature shoot(s)
Responsible for the management of client turnover schedules
Works with Digital Producer to ensure proper scheduling and allocation of crew and digital resources within the budget
Schedules and manages facility deliveries, including trailers and other special requirements; communicates changes to Executive Producer and studio management team
Works with Production Accountant to manage all aspects of show budget, including accurate projections, and weekly EFC reporting
Approves all show budget costs
Monitors changes to scope of work, including shot turnover re-bidding; maintains documentation for all changes and issues client change orders as needed
Creates and distributes weekly status report to client and DD Executive Staff
Mentors Production staff and participates in show performance appraisal process and post-mortems

Education and/or Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications or related field
8+ years experience in production management or supervisor role for feature film visual effects required

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

Demonstrated organizational, project management and leadership skills
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required; experience with production tracking software and asset management software a plus
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict
Ability to manage multiple tasks in a high pressure environment

Trainer

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Trainer is responsible for organizing and executing immediate and long term employee professional development programs. The Training Specialist will provide general training across multiple disciplines. The Trainer will be responsible for developing curriculum in specific disciplines (to be determined based on their skills and needs of the company).

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

New hire training and orientation
Develop various discipline curriculum and individual lesson plans
Work with subject matter experts in departments to develop training on new software and show-based procedures
Provide cross training between departments/productions
Provide training to employees at various DD locations
Continuing education to enhance employees’ skill sets
Participate with School Outreach Program
Facilitate and coordinate Internship Program in partnership with artist management and recruiting
Conduct tours of facility on occasion
These goals are accomplished by individual and classroom training sessions, coordination of informational seminars and lectures, and creation and maintenance of web-based tutorials and documentation.
The Trainer will work closely with Production and Software departments as new proprietary processes or applications are developed. The trainer will test, develop documentation and prepare for training artists in these tools.
The Trainer will need to get up to speed on many existing proprietary applications already being used within the facility.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

BS or equivalent experience in Digital Animation, Education, Computer Science, Math, or related field
Experience with various 3D software packages: Maya, Nuke, Mari, Houdini, Katana, Arnold preferred
Experience with training in both group settings & 1-1 sessions
Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

Excellent computer/technical skills

Highly skilled at public speaking/articulation & very comfortable in front of a group
Knowledge of LINUX and Windows operating systems
Experience with HTML/web page creation
Strong writing skills
Organized, detail-oriented
Good interpersonal skills
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite
Good at multi-tasking and juggling multiple assignments
Valid passport and ability to travel between US/Canada
BS or equivalent experience in Digital Animation, Education, Computer Science, Math, or related field.

Digital Producer

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Digital Producer is responsible for the planning, scheduling, management, and delivery of all aspects of digital production for feature film visual effects. Oversees all production workflow and partners with the VFX producer and show supervisors to deliver the contracted work on schedule.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Oversees the daily operations of the show Production team and Digital Artists to ensure efficient flow of work through the facility
Works with show supervisors and VFX Producer to develop a breakdown of all digital effects work for the project
Works with VFX Producer to revise bids and manage facility show costs
With the support of the DPM to create a schedule for all phases of production
Creates and maintains task assignments for the teams and works with team leads to create element and final delivery schedules
Supervises a team of DPMs, Production Coordinators, and Production Assistants to schedule and update progress of tasks in the production tracking system and on the show board
Partners with the show supervisors and leads to understand the development schedule, show pipeline, and its implication for production workflow
Participates in show planning meetings with Supervisors and Technology teams through both development and shot production phases of the project
Creates the call sheet and daily schedule, ensuring that dailies, client meetings, Supervisor walkthroughs, production meetings, and other priorities are effectively planned and managed
Prioritizes daily output for CG elements and client deliveries
Identifies potential issues in advance, facilitates problem solving and maintains the momentum required to keep the team delivering shots on schedule
Acts as escalation point for conflict resolution and all show-related facility issues
Trains and mentors Production staff and leads show performance appraisal process for Production team
Plans and leads the execution of the show post-mortems
Partners with HR and Supervisors to complete the show performance appraisal process for digital artists

The Digital Artist Employee Manager is responsible for the management, career development, and recruitment of digital artists in varying skill sets within the company. The Digital Artist Employee Manager oversees the planning and scheduling for artists in their group to ensure talent is appropriately utilized across all projects, as well as partnering with the technology management team to identify talent to participate in ongoing Software and R&D initiatives.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Responsible for recruitment, career development, performance evaluation, performance management, and talent retention
Partners with Department Supervisors to collaborate on artist career development goals and ongoing initiatives
Participates in long-term planning with Digital Studio team, Producers, and Supervisors to create appropriate staffing and recruiting plans; attends weekly staffing meetings to ensure labor is effectively utilized across all projects
With the VP, Digital Studios, forecasts artist labor utilization ensuring appropriate utilization levels are consistently maintained
Attends bidding meetings with Producers and Supervisors to ensure that the proper staffing breakdowns are created and provides both internal and external candidate options
Partners with Production Management and Supervisors to anticipate staffing changes and additional resource needs throughout the life of a project
Meets with Production teams, Supervisors, and artists regularly to ensure consistent communication; serves as a liaison between the artists, Supervisors, and Production to facilitate feedback
Works with the Recruiting team to manage the recruiting process by reviewing incoming reels, facilitating Supervisor and Production reel reviews, leading interviews, collecting feedback and communicating action items on all candidates
Maintains strong professional relationships with talent at other facilities in an effort to predict employee availability for current or upcoming projects
Participates in project post-mortems and ensures areas of improvement for artist management and pipeline development are identified and appropriate action items are assigned and delivered
Oversees the creation and maintenance of department documentation
Promotes a positive and productive work environment

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in film, art, computer science or related field required
5+ years computer graphics production experience including 2+ years experience managing a team within a large-scale VFX pipeline

Ability to establish priorities, multi-task efficiently, and work with diverse personalities and all levels of management in a high-pressure environment
Must have strong leadership qualities with the ability to effectively delegate and mentor technical individuals

Digital Production Manager

The Digital Production Manager (DPM) is responsible for the scheduling and management of all aspects of digital production for feature film visual effects.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

With the Digital Producer, creates a schedule for all phases of production and works with Digital Artist Managers to assign digital artists to the work
Responsible for tracking billed artist weeks against the bid
Maintains the hold schedule and authorizes releases for all digital artists
Creates and maintains task assignments for the teams; anticipates potential staffing ..changes based on development or creative shifts through the show
Responsible for artist timecard and vacation requests
Maintains and publishes information regarding client notes and changes in planned work for Supervisors and Artists
Provides information to support the VFX Producer with bidding and change orders
Provides support to VFX and show Supervisors as needed
Manages the task assignments and priorities for the VFX Editor
Works with the DFX and CG Supervisors to create the render processor, disk space, and software projections for the duration of the show
Manages daily digital resource utilization and acts as the primary contact person on the production team with regards to allocation of show resources; communicates daily with the show DPA regarding changes to priorities, etc.
Oversees the setup of show-specific production needs including view stations, war rooms, etc.
Manages show space planning and artist moves with the Digital Artist Managers and Facility Operations
Responsible for end of show wrap up with key artists, Production Services and Video I/O • Participates in Production performance appraisal process
Attends show post-mortems, documents and identifies action items for Digital Production team

Education and/or Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in film, art, communications, or related field
5+ years production experience including
3+ years experience in a Production Management or a Supervisor role in feature film, visual effects experience preferred

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office applications required
Knowledge of Gmail and Google Apps for work is a plus
Experience with production tracking software (Shotgun) and asset management software a plus
