Generalist Developer/TD (Commercials & VR)

Description

Purpose of the job:

This role provides support and development for the Commercials and VR, leveraging and extending existing pipeline to meet evolving requirements.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Work with Commercials and VR Pipeline Supervisors as well as Project Supervisors to identify, promote and extend existing tools applicable to these domains.
Assist artists with troubleshooting and general pipeline support.
Ensure software development follows studio policies and guidelines.
Work closely with other Technical Directors and Pipeline to ensure that the needs of the Commercials and VR are understood.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

Production experience in computer animation, visual effects, or game industry.
Experience with tool integration into existing or new pipelines.
Experience with Maya, Houdini, Nuke or other 3rd Party Animation systems.
Proficiency in Python, as well as a general understanding of software development principles and practices required.
Familiarity with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine a plus.
Experience with C++, and one or more relevant DCC APIs a plus.
Ability to establish priorities, and work independently or within a group
Excellent Communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups.

Virtual Production Developer

Description

Purpose of the job:

Digital Domain is one of the largest and most influential visual effects studios in the world. We produce top tier visual effects for movies, television, commercials, along with virtual production, augmented reality (AR), and virtual reality (VR) development services for clients and internally created content. The virtual production team is leading the industry with an advanced real-time visualization pipeline tightly integrated with motion capture, game engine, and interactive VR/AR technologies. We are looking to expand this team for work on key feature film and immersive storytelling experiences. We are seeking an experienced real time plugin developer for Motion Builder and Maya. This role will be helping develop and maintain core realtime plugin’s to handle motion capture and animation data along with hardware device input for virtual production and virtual reality projects.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

To work closely within the virtual production team to develop and maintain heavily optimized realtime server/client data streaming plugin’s in Motion Builder and Maya.
To develop and maintain plugins within Motion Builder and Maya to deal with real time motion capture, meta data and animation data.
To develop and maintain plugins within Motion Builder to interface directly with custom hardware, input devices and network interfaces to Unity.
Work with the lead virtual production TD to understand technical requirements, identify and prioritize development tasks.
Develop and maintain documentation for tools, techniques and workflows.
Collaborate closely with Unity developers, Unity TD’s and other pipeline TD’s to create new and exciting workflows, tools and techniques to support virtual production techniques in real time.
Active participation in technical and artistic discussions and problem solving.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

3+ years experience authoring and developing tools and plugins in C++.
2+ years development experience within games and/or motion capture industries.

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

Good knowledge of plugin development for Motion Builder, Maya and/or Unity.
Strong knowledge of object oriented design, 3D Math, and data structures optimized for realtime processing.
Strong working knowledge of server/client networking architecture and protocols.
Strong knowledge of matrix algebra, trigonometry and computational geometry essential.
Working knowledge of Python advantageous.
Knowledge of C# advantageous.
Experience with interfacing directly with IMU’s gyro’s and other sensing hardware advantageous.
Comfortable with tool and plugin development within Windows OS.
Knowledge and/or ability to understand the concepts of timecode, motion capture data, rigging and editorial workflows advantageous.

Game Engine Character Artist

Description

The virtual production team is leading the industry with an advanced real-time visualization pipeline tightly integrated with motion capture, game engine, and interactive VR/AR technologies. We are looking to expand this team for work on key feature film and immersive storytelling experiences. As a character artist you will be creating memorable, iconic and interesting characters for virtual production (within feature film) and virtual reality projects. You will be expertly modeling, texturing and shading characters and other key assets.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

· To work closely with the virtual art department supervisor and Virtual Art Department (VAD) team to develop build characters as directed by feature film makers and internally driven virtual reality projects
· Creating mid and low poly character models, textures and shaders including UV maps.
· Maintains a consistent style under director of production designers, art directors and creative directors.
· Uses knowledge in human and animal anatomy to ensure character models achieve a high level of functionality and aesthetic design.
· Active participation in technical and artistic discussions and problem solving.
· Works closely with animators and riggers to ensure models deform correctly and are functional.
· Work closely with TD’s to ensure the pipeline is as efficient as possible.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

· 2+ years modeling experience in games industry as an character artist with at least one AAA game shipped on PC or console
· 2 + years of experience using maya, photoshop, Z-Brush, Mudbox or equivilent.
· 2+ years of experience with asset development for Unity and/or Unreal

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

· Experience with asset development for use in Unity and or Unreal.
· Excellent mid and low poly modeling skills.
· Good visual and technical understanding of 3D character modeling and texturing.
· Strong knowledge of texture mapping (including normal, diffuse, spec etc), UV mapping and generation along with texture creation and painting.
· Fast, organized, take direction well, and can deal with high profile directors, vfx supervisors and production designers.
· Advanced knowledge of human and animal anatomy
· Strong painting skills in both stylized and photorealistic styles
· Strong skills in sculpting and generating normal maps from high poly models.
· Good understanding of clean edge flow and best practices for modeling for skin deformation and animation performance.
· Ability to rig characters and skin weight is advantageous
· Knowledge of Motionbuilder advantageous.
· Knowledge of shader development in Unity and Unreal advantageous.
· Knowledge of scripting (Python, Mel, C# scripting in Unity, and/or Unreal Blueprint) useful.
· Experience with virtual reality development and optimization is advantageous
· Strong organizational and communications skills along with understanding production values, deadlines and priorities
· Willing to take direction and be a team player.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

To work closely with the virtual art department supervisor and Virtual Art Department (VAD) team to develop and build environments, game spaces and help develop visual ideas, and create final environment assets as directed by feature film makers and internally driven virtual reality projects
Environmental, prop and vehicle assets will need to be created from scratch and based upon reference artwork and photography.
Asset creation will include models, UV maps, textures and materials.
Integration of art assets into the game engine with initial lighting both exterior and interior.
Active participation in technical and artistic discussions and problem solving.
Maintains a consistent style under director of production designers, art directors and creative directors.
Work closely with TD’s to ensure the pipeline is as efficient as possible.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

2+ years modelling experience in games industry as an environment artist with at least one AAA game shipped on PC or console.

Look Development Artist

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Look Development Artist works as part of the Look Development team that defines all the technical and aesthetic aspects needed to create the appearance of a 3-D element.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Strong knowledge of VRay and Maya or similar raytraced renderers
Fluent with node-based shading networks
Creating shader networks in VRay and Maya to hand off to lighting for use in shot production
Participates as a team member in determining various design and technical solutions; provides feedback to other team members of the production
Linear color pipeline/understanding of colorspaces and global illumination problems and techniques

Education and/or Experience Required:

Strong knowledge of VRay and Maya

We are seeking experienced Back-End Web Developer to help create world class interactive experiences in Unity.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Will incorporate back-end functionality within, online streaming service, systems based on creative input from Creative Director.
Will handle client server communication through rest via Java, or JavaScript API.
Will work on multiple event based systems with different technical hurdles to overcome.
Will be at daily staff meetings regarding forward progress, and system resource needs.
Will communicate with DD production about project goals and obstacles.

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

Experience with JavaScript, Java (REST + JSON) or Python -Prefer JavaScript or Java
Experience with Unity + C# would definitely be a plus
Experience with hardware control mechanisms would be a plus
