Back-End Developer

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Back End Developer position will be part of our core Web Operations Team.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Work with the Director of Technology to design and implement scalable solutions for data storage, analytics, and VR/360 video streaming
Participate in discussions with the front end developers and design team to ensure designs are technically feasible and performant
Assist with code reviews for team member contributions

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

3+ years of experience doing backend web development
Experience working with Javascript ES6 in a production environment
Experience working on a shared codebase in a team environment
Strong knowledge of Node.js
Knowledge of Unix/Linux administration
Experience working with noSQL databases such as MongoDB

Education, Experience, and Skills Recommended:

Experience with rethinkDB
Experience working with cloud hosted services such as AWS
Familiarity with automated test frameworks such as Mocha

DevOps Engineer

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Support Engineer will be part of our Core Technology Team.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Create and maintain AMIs to support our VR/360 video platform
Build, deploy, and maintain tooling for managing and monitoring servers
Develop and maintain system backup tools and procedures
Be on call to handle server outages
Build and maintain automation to handle deployments and scaling

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

Strong background working with and maintaining Linux systems
Comfort with bash scripting including use of regexes
Experience with IPv4 networking and routing
Experience working with cloud hosted services such as AWS

Education, Experience, and Skills Recommended:

Animation Developer/TD

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Animation Technical Directors are responsible for improving the overall efficiency of the facility-wide Animation pipeline. They design, implement, and manage tools that assist the Animators with their daily use of both third party and in-house software and systems. These tools are intended to make Animation/Character production as efficient and productive as possible. Animation TDs work with peers and supervisors to craft novel tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of current projects and advance the capabilities of the facility. They also support Animators in tracking down technical problems with rigs, models, tools or data flow. The role requires strong technical and excellent communication/”customer service” skills, as well as a firm understanding of software design, graphics, and production work flow.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

High emphasis on translation of Animator feature requests and workflow discussions into practical designs and tool implementation that integrate with the production pipeline
Continually looking for ways to optimize the efficiency/workflow for Animation
Work with department representatives to augment their work flows and tool sets to achieve specific goals of the project
Interface with departments both up and downstream, to facilitate the smooth flow of assets through the pipeline
Work with artists to troubleshoot and fix problems ? Ensure animation tools and workflows follows studio policies and guidelines
Work closely with other Technical Directors to maintain and further the entire production pipeline
Craft and update documentation for tools, techniques and work flows generated by the Technical Director

Qualifications:

3+ years experience as a Technical Director with a focus on Animation or Rigging pipelines
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics a plus ? Expert knowledge of Maya required
Proficiency in Python APIs and Mel scripting language
Must have written and supported animation and/or rigging tools used significantly in production
Experience with tool integration into existing or new pipelines
Working experience with one or more additional professional graphics packages, including Houdini, and Nuke
Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and work with minimal supervision
Excellent communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups

Compositing Developer/TD

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Compositing Developer/Technical Director works with peers and supervisors to craft novel compositing tools, techniques, and procedures to aid the execution of the current project and advance the capabilities of the facility. The role requires strong technical and communication skills, as well as a firm understanding of compositing, color theory, software design, graphics, and production work flow.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Design and create tools using a combination of custom libraries and the Nuke, Python, TCL, and C++ APIs
Integrate new tools into Digital Domain’s existing pipeline, using a combination of Python, C++, and the aforementioned APIs
Work with Compositing Supervisor(s) and Senior Compositors to customize tool set and work flow for a given project
Work with department representatives to augment their work flows and tool sets to achieve specific goals of the project
Work with artists to troubleshoot and fix problems arising in the Technical Director’s area(s) of expertise
Craft and update documentation for tools, techniques and work flows generated by the Technical Director
Remain informed of current technologies in the Technical Director’s field(s) of expertise

Qualifications:

3+ years experience as a Technical Director for Feature Films
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience
Firm understanding of Color Science
Proficiency with Nuke
Proficiency with Python and Tcl, PyQt experience a plus
Proficiency with C++ a plus
Proficiency with Nuke’s Python interface, Nuke SDK experience a plus
Proficiency with and experience in compositing

FX Artist

Description

Purpose of the job:

The FX Artist works closely with the FX lead and FX TDs to create high quality effects including rigid body and particle dynamics, volume modeling and rendering, procedural geometry generation and fluid dynamics.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Design and animate high quality, photo-real effects (fire, smoke, explosions, debris, clouds, etc) that meet all technical and aesthetic standards for the project
Work within the show structure and production deadlines to complete all tasks
Work closely with Lighting Artist and Compositors to ensure all effects will work smoothly within the show pipeline
Produce look tests based on provided reference materials
Take direction from FX Leads and FX TDs as well as provide guidance and mentorship to other FX Artists

Qualifications:

Education, Experience, and Skills Required:

3+ years experience as an FX Artist creating photo-real effects elements for feature films and commercials
Degree in Animation, Arts, Fine Arts or equivalent production experience
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Mathematics a plus
Expert knowledge of any/all of the following: rigid body and particle dynamics, volume modeling and rendering, procedural geometry generation and fluid dynamics
Strong understanding of physical dynamics and natural phenomena
Production experience working in Houdini and/or Maya is required
Experience with one or more other professional software packages such as 3D Studio Max or Real Flow is a plus
Requires strong technical and communication skills within a show structure
Firm understanding of effects production pipelines
Python scripting is a plus

Lighting Artist

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Lighting Artist will light shots and sequences and may participate in some Look Development. The Lighting Artist will work within the lighting and rendering pipeline to see shots through from start to finish.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Create photorealistic CG lighting that meets all technical and aesthetic standards for the project
Complete tasks within production deadlines while being largely self-directed
Be able to troubleshoot common rendering and lighting technical issues

Education and/or Experience Required:

A wide range of experience and skills that can be used to resolve complex issues in creative and effective ways
3+ years experience creating photorealistic lighting for feature films in Maya, Renderman, or Vray. Leading or mentoring experience is a plus
Extensive experience in a wide range of CG Lighting techniques and technical methods
Experience with HDRs and image based lighting
Ability to troubleshoot common rendering issues
Python or MEL experience in production is a plus
Must have excellent communication and organizational skills

Look Development Artist

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Look Development Artist works as part of the Look Development team that defines all the technical and aesthetic aspects needed to create the appearance of a 3-D element.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Strong knowledge of VRay and Maya or similar raytraced renderers
Fluent with node-based shading networks
Creating shader networks in VRay and Maya to hand off to lighting for use in shot production
Participates as a team member in determining various design and technical solutions; provides feedback to other team members of the production

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Ability to with Environments and Matte Painting artist and other TDs to help design and create tools to be integrated into Digital Domain’s existing pipeline. These tools will be created using a combination of custom and commercial Python and C++ APIs
Work with Environment Lead to augment the team’s work flows and tool sets to achieve specific goals of the project
Work directly with artists to troubleshoot and fix problems
Craft and update documentation for tools, techniques and work flows generated

Education and/or Experience Required:

3+ years experience as a Technical Director
Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent work experience ideal
Thorough understanding of a 3D and 2.5D (projection) pipeline
Preferably technical knowledge of lenses and camera bodies (filmback, distortion etc)
Working experience with Maya required
Working experience with one or more professional graphics packages, including V-ray, Houdini, and/or Nuke a plus
Practical knowledge of Python strongly desired, knowledge of PyQt a plus
Proficiency in one or more professional graphics package C++/Python APIs, including the Maya SDK, HDK and Nuke SDK preferred
Proficiency in applicable domain specific programming language(s) including Mel, Hscript, RSL, MetaSL.
