Animator

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Animator will be responsible for producing animated elements, shots and sequences under the direction of the Lead Animator and the Animation Supervisor. The Animator will be expected to deliver key frame animation, as well as animation using motion capture data, to be used in a live action feature film or commercial.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Reports to Lead Animator or Animation Supervisor, depending upon size of team and established hierarchy.
Assignments will include animation tests, previs, layout, shots and finals; to be delivered to satisfaction and per delivery schedule.
Will need to produce high volume and multiple iterations of shots with speed and accuracy.
Artist needs to be able to function as a solo performer, and as part of a team.
Full participation to ensure that the highest quality of animation is being achieved on schedule.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

Minimum 3 years of experience creating character and creature animation for live action/VFX films.
Knowledge and work experience in Maya required.
Additional animation software experience (e.g., 3DS Max, Houdini, Proprietary Packages) are considered a plus.
Work should demonstrate an experienced ability to define character personality, create fluid motion, organic movement, and storytelling.
A working knowledge of Motion Capture and/or Rigging is a plus.
Qualifying collegiate or graduate degrees and awards are preferred.

Roto/Paint Artist

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Roto / Paint Artist is responsible for creating mattes that accurately reflect the motion of a particular object over a series of frames. Painting may also be required to remove unwanted artifacts, reconstruct a background or digitally correct a render or composite.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Sophisticated shape creation and editing
Shape animation (by hand and with trackers)
Shape compositing, fill modes, opacity settings
Compositing roto, plate, and color correction nodes to create, render, and review color-overlay
Roto check
Marker removal paint
Rig removal paint
Plate restoration

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

2+ years industry Rotoscope and Paint experience

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

Experience with hand paint and “procedural” or “comp” paint a plus
Knowledge of Nuke and Combustion a bonus
Handle difficult to extremely difficult paint tasks
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Team player with great attitude
Dependable and flexible
Takes direction well
Exercises close attention to detail

Pipeline Supervisor

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Pipeline Supervisor is responsible for leading a team charged with the development, deployment, and support of the Facility Pipeline on a Production. The Pipeline Supervisor does this in conjunction with the Technology Department leadership, as well as senior Supervisors and other Pipeline Supervisors across the company, in order to maximize the return on investment in any Pipeline enhancements, while minimizing show risk and waste.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Helps drive the design, implementation, and evolution of a standardized Pipeline for Productions and Departments, utilizing Show and Facility resources
Leads a team of Show and Facility TDs responsible for deploying, configuring, and supporting the existing Pipeline
Works with the other Pipeline Supervisors, senior Supervisors, and Technology Staff to ensure that the Pipeline meets the needs of the company at large and diverges as little as possible between Shows, while still meeting the needs of the individual Productions
Works with Production and Technology Management to ensure adequate resource coverage to meet the demands of the current show Acts as an escalation point for Supervisors, Production Management, and Artist Management to resolve conflicts; ensures limited resources are effectively utilized, and artists efficiently tasked by matching artist skill-set to assignments, identifying cross-utilization opportunities whenever possible
Promotes a positive and productive work environment and leads collaborative efforts across the facility

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

BS in Computer Science or Computer Graphics or equivalent Industry experience required
Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in feature film on the post-production side desired
Experience managing software, pipeline, and/or technology teams desired
Production experience with Maya, Houdini and/or Nuke, including familiarity with APIs desired
General experience with Python in a production environment
Must be able to work in a collaborative, fast-paced environment
Good communication skills, both written and verbal

Compositing Supervisor (Commercials)

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Compositing Supervisor has years of experience in a supervisory capacity and command of Nuke or another high end node based compositing software. They are responsible for staffing and managing a team of compositors which creates the final approved composited images that meet or exceed the client’s expectations.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Assists Producer in bidding and scheduling
Staffing in collaboration with Producer and Manager
Interviews and reviews potential candidates with Manager
Determines technical approach and pipeline for compositing
Look development or delegates to appropriate Lead or senior compositor
Attends Dailies, walkthroughs, and production meetings
Point person between Production, VFX Sup, CG Sups, and compositing team
Assigns shots to compositors and monitors shot progress
Color timing and management of sequence continuity
Identifies problems and effectively implements solutions
Quality control on all composites to ensure consistency across every show
Composites shots of any level of complexity as needed or time allows
Mentors less experienced artists
Upon completion of project:
Documentation and element archiving
Provides in-depth feedback of compositing crew to Manager
Participates in Post-Mortem

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

Minimum 5 years experience in a Commercial environment
Understanding of photography, composition, lighting, color and motion
Extremely strong understanding of Nuke compositing software required
Experience and knowledge of stereoscopic tools and methods desired
Demonstrated leadership qualities
Strong communication skills
Time Management and organizational skills
Aesthetically and creatively solid and capable of producing highest quality images
Professional in all dealings with Production and crew
Team player who takes direction well
Dependable under pressure with attention to details

Core Software Engineer

Description

Purpose of the job:

The Core Software Team at Digital Domain is responsible for core tools and distributed services for use across the facility including: asset, task, and software management; dailies, render submission, analytics, cross site data transfer, and core Python libraries.
Digital Domain is seeking a Software Engineer to help advance the feature set, integration and operation of internal systems with Shotgun. The position requires expertise in a comprehensive set of areas including databases, services, server-side code, Python-based client APIs, and tools.
The Core Software Engineer with Shotgun Focus is responsible for the administration and operation of Shotgun within the facility. Responsibilities also include designing, implementing, testing, and deploying code that integrates with Shotgun in a multi-site environment. This is a challenging but exciting position for an experienced developer with strong skills in Python, relational databases, web services and an understanding of software stacks that span from client tools to back-end services that are integrated with Shotgun and other production tracking systems.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

Administration of production tracking servers
Assist in the migration of data across servers and locations
Assist in the consolidation of services and integration of heterogeneous production tracking systems
Develop new features and support existing Python APIs that front-end developers use to interact with back-end services
Participate in the design, implementation and deployment of features for supporting distributed production tracking systems across multiple facilities
Set up test environments for testing the distributed production tracking tool set
Set up and perform stress and regression tests routinely
Troubleshoot issues in production related to the various production tracking frameworks and services
Participate in code reviews

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience Required:

B.S. or higher degree in Computer Science or related field and/or combination of education and experience equivalent to that level of professionalism, problem solving, and analytical skills
3+ years Python programming experience
3+ years experience with relational databases like Postgres and MySQL
2+ years experience using and developing triggers for Shotgun
Experience with database replication, backup and recovery highly desired

Skills, Abilities, Special Licenses or Certificate:

Ability to quickly understand and work with legacy code
Working knowledge of software development methodologies and practices, refactoring, Object-oriented analysis and design, pair programming, etc.
