Double Negative – Compositor

Located in the heart of London’s Soho, Double Negative was set up in 1998 with a team of 30 staff. Since then the company has grown to 1000+ staff, making it Europe’s largest provider of visual effects for Film.

Over the past 12 months, Double Negative has completed work on projects including; Captain America: The First Avenger, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, Tree of Life, Attack the Block, and Paul. We are currently in production on The Dark Knight Rises, John Carter, Man of Steel, The Bourne Legacy, Skyfall, Snow White and the Huntsman, Rush, Battleship, Total Recall and The Pirates! In an Adventure with Scientists.

Job Title: Compositing Artist
Department: 2D
Location: London
Reports To: Head of 2D

Key Purpose of the Job:
To seamlessly integrate all the layers or elements of a shot, including live-action and computer graphic elements. Compositors work closely with Visual Effects Supervisors and 2D Supervisors to composite the numerous elements that complete a visual effects shot..

Needs to Do

Blue/green screen extractions
Seamless integration of live action, miniature and CGI sources
Take part in client reviews
Follow production methodologies and develop creative approaches and problem-solving
Performing all aspects of composite fx design

Needs to Know

You must have a minimum of 2 years VFX industry experience
Experience in using Nuke
A knowledge and interest in photography and practical lighting is helpful
Critical eye for detail, and strong communication skills

FX TD

Job Title: Effects Technical Director
Department: 3D
Location: London
Reports To: Head of 3D

Purpose of role FX Technical Directors gather a variety of 3D assets produced by our Build, Layout and Animation departments and use off the shelf software – primarily Houdini but also Maya – and custom pipeline tools to create particle, rigid body, fluid, cloth, fur and hair simulations.

Main responsibilities and duties

· Use an array of commercial and proprietary software tools to produce photorealistic simulations of real-world phenomena while developing innovative solutions to complex problems
· Create bespoke effects setups to fulfil client briefs
· Produce test and often final renders of FX elements for a shot
· Create working test composites for review by the supervision team
· Work in partnership with lighters & compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard
· Stay on schedule and meet deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality of work

Experience and skills

· Proven experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosions, plus experience with particle and voxel based rendering
· An eye for details, good sense of timing, and thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to physical simulation in computer graphics
· Experience in live action FX work preferred
· Extensive knowledge of Houdini and/or Maya (Python, Hscript or Mel knowledge a plus)
· Familiarity with pipeline issues and problem solving
· A good general TD background is desirable
· Familiarity with at least one node based compositing application (Nuke preferred), and a solid understanding of the compositing process.
· Strong understanding of linux/ unix based operating systems
· At least 3 years experience in feature films. Experience in other areas of visual effects (TV, Games) will also be taken into account.

· Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines, whilst maintaining high quality results
