Key Purpose of the Job

An Animator is responsible for expediting high quality character/creature animation for feature films.
Work closely with the animation lead/supervisor to create believable animation with convincing performances and motion.

Must work well in a team.

Compositor

Key Purpose of the Job

To seamlessly integrate all the layers or elements of a shot, including live-action and computer graphic elements. Compositors work closely with Visual Effects Supervisors and 2D Supervisors to composite the numerous elements that complete a visual effects shot.

Needs To Do

Blue/green screen extractions
Seamless integration of live action, miniature and CGI sources.
Take part in client reviews
Follow production methodologies and develop creative approaches and problem-solving
Performing all aspects of composite fx design

Needs To Know

You must have a minimum of 4 years VFX industry experience
Experience in using Nuke
A knowledge and interest in photography and practical lighting is helpful
Critical eye for detail, and strong communication skills

Key Purpose of the Job

3D generalists are required to handle varied 3D tasks on shows.

Needs To Do

Responsible for a range of 3D tasks, including modelling, animation, texturing, lighting and rendering.
Stay on schedule and meet deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality of work

Needs To Know

Thorough knowledge of the principles of 3D (animation, FX, modelling, texturing, lighting, scripting, shading, rendering, rigging)
Comfortable with the more technical aspects of CG work, with an understanding of the artistic side as well
Familiarity with pipeline issues and problem solving
Extensive experience in Maya and/ or Houdini
Extensive knowledge of rendering packages e.g. Renderman/ Mental Ray
Strong understanding of linux/ unix based operating systems
Knowledge of Python and/or Mel Scripting is desirable
At least 3 years experience in feature films. Experience in other areas of visual effects (TV, Games) will also be taken into account

Key Purpose of the Job

To create photorealistic matte paintings and composites

Needs To Do

Work with live action footage, digital stills photography, rendered cg elements and digital paint to create believable environments. Be flexible enough to wholly composite moderately complex shots in Nuke.

Needs To Know

Thorough knowledge of advanced matte painting techniques including colour space, digital paint techniques and Photoshop file management (be it file format, bit depth resolution or appropriate layering of elements).
Technical proficiency in photography with an emphasis on composition, depth, lighting and colour.
Good proficiency in Nuke.
Working knowledge of the principles of 3D texture projections.
A minimum of 3 years experience in matte painting.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Professional aptitude for time management in relation to bringing multiple priorities and tasks to completion within a set deadline.

Able demonstrate to ability to work to tight schedules with fast turnaround.

FX TD

Description

Founded in 1998 with a team of just 30, award-winning Double Negative (Dneg) has grown to become one of the industry’s success stories and is now one of the world’s largest providers of visual effects for Film (operating from locations in both London and Singapore with a third facility opening this year in Vancouver). Dneg collaborates with film makers from the first stages of projects; producing ideas and concept imagery and developing previs and vfx production plans, whilst their VFX R&D team create the tools for Dneg artists to produce ground breaking digital environments, creatures, digital characters and effects from the real (water, smoke and fire) to the magical.
They have received awards recognition from the Visual Effects Society (Inception and Sherlock Holmes), BAFTA (Inception and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2) and the Academy Awards (Inception).

Key Purpose of the Job

FX Technical Directors gather a variety of 3D assets produced by our Build, Layout and Animation departments and use off the shelf software – primarily Houdini but also Maya – and custom pipeline tools to create particle, rigid body, fluid, cloth, fur and hair simulations.

Use an array of commercial and proprietary software tools to produce photorealistic simulations of real-world phenomena while developing innovative solutions to complex problems
Create bespoke effects setups to fulfil client briefs
Produce test and often final renders of FX elements for a shot
Create working test composites for review by the supervision team
Work in partnership with lighters &compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard
Stay on schedule and meet deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality of work

Needs To Know

Proven experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosions, plus experience with particle and voxel based rendering
An eye for details, good sense of timing, and thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to physical simulation in computer graphics
Experience in live action FX work preferred
Extensive knowledge of Houdini and/or Maya (Python, Hscript or Mel knowledge a plus)
Familiarity with pipeline issues and problem solving
A good general TD background is desirable
Familiarity with at least one node based compositing application (Nuke preferred), and a solid understanding of the compositing process.

Lighting artists ensure there is consistency in lighting, colour balance and mood between the various elements of a shot or scene.

Create efficient rendering setups to optimise farm usage
Scrutinise the colours and directions of all light sources in the real-world scene and replicate them in CG
