Compositing Artists’ Manager

Department: 2D Location: London Closing Date: 18/07/2014 Reports To: Co-Head of 2D Direct Reports: N/A Key Purpose of the Job Responsible for developing Compositing within the business. Taking a leading role in recruitment, scheduling, reviews and training strategy in order to cultivate our fantastic team of 2D artists. Needs To Do Work with the Company Schedule Manager and Co-Head of 2d to ensure that new hires and existing artists are scheduled into the correct roles on appropriate shows whilst also establishing recruitment needs Focus on leveraging talent therefore ensuring artists are consistently motivated and evolving in their roles and that we are fully utilising and developing skills available Work with the 2D Trainer and HR to carry out training needs analysis across the business to ensure appropriate training material and courses are designed. Consistently evaluating the effectiveness of this training Plan and strategise the long term scheduling of 2D artists and associated timeframes Conduct performance and salary reviews and feeding back relevant information into the scheduling process. Senior Compositing Artist

Department: 2D Location: London Closing Date: N/A Reports To: Head of 2D Direct Reports: N/A Key Purpose of the Job To seamlessly integrate all the layers or elements of a shot, including live-action and computer graphic elements. Senior compositors work closely with Visual Effects Supervisors and 2D Supervisors to composite the numerous elements that complete a visual effects shot. Senior compositors are expected to work on the most complex and demanding shots in the film. Senior compositors may take on a sequence of shots to keep continuity between them. Key Purpose of the Job FX Technical Directors gather a variety of 3D assets produced by our Build, Layout and Animation departments and use off the shelf software – primarily Houdini but also Maya – and custom pipeline tools to create particle, rigid body, fluid, cloth, fur and hair simulations. Needs To Do Use an array of commercial and proprietary software tools to produce photorealistic simulations of real-world phenomena while developing innovative solutions to complex problems Create bespoke effects setups to fulfil client briefs Produce test and often final renders of FX elements for a shot Create working test composites for review by the supervision team Work in partnership with lighters &compositors to ensure shots are delivered to the very highest standard Stay on schedule and meet deadlines whilst maintaining the highest quality of work Needs To Know Proven experience in producing effects such as smoke, fire, clouds, water, steam and explosions, plus experience with particle and voxel based rendering An eye for details, good sense of timing, and thorough understanding of techniques and technologies relating to physical simulation in computer graphics Experience in live action FX work preferred Extensive knowledge of Houdini and/or Maya (Python, Hscript or Mel knowledge a plus) Familiarity with pipeline issues and problem solving A good general TD background is desirable Familiarity with at least one node based compositing application (Nuke preferred), and a solid understanding of the compositing process. Strong understanding of linux/ unix based operating systems At least 3 years experience in feature films. Experience in other areas of visual effects (TV, Games) will also be taken into account .
