Job Description

Dovetail Games are seeking to recruit an experienced User Interface designer to work in our Chatham office. You will assist in the design, creation and implementation of the game menu systems and related overlays for in-game presentation. You will work closely with the design team to develop an intuitive and seamless user experience as well as designing the graphical elements that you will need to build the User Interface.

Key aspects of the role include but are not limited to;

• Work closely with the creative director, lead artist and UI lead to create mockups and prototypes of UI features
• Partner with the lead artist and UI lead to establish and publish the UI art bible
• Design and create required art assets for use in UI creation.
• Work closely with the designers and UI lead to implement UI features and flow
• Rapidly iterate upon design implementations to ensure the most intuitive experience is presented to the player.

• 2+ years of experience with user interface design for video games or interactive websites
• Minimum maths & English GCSE or equivalent, CSE, O’Level, Level 2 NVQ

Technical Designer

Job Title: Technical Designer
Reports to: Creative Director

Responsible for:

• Design, document and communicate Sim 1 game features with particular emphasis on the technical aspects of the simulation.
• Create engaging game content including reviewing scenario work created by other members of the design team.
• Work as part of the team to resolve design and gameplay issues as they emerge during development.
• Critically review their own work in the product at each stage of development.
• Iteratively balance and fine tune game play elements.
• Have complete knowledge of all relevant and tools and systems used to create Gameplay in Sim 1
• Take ownership of the technical accuracy and authenticity of all aspects of gameplay.

Job Description

Dovetail Games is seeking to recruit a Technical Game Designer, you will work with all aspects of the team, while working alongside the Creative Director to help establish and maintain the quality, authenticity and vision for the game. You should also act as a visible point of contact for all gameplay and design issues for the area of the game you are assigned to. The successful candidate will have 2-5 years’ experience working in a world class simulation environment, have excellent analytical and communication skills and some working knowledge of at least one common scripting language.

Key aspects of the role include but are not limited to;

• Help maintain the quality bar for Sim1
• Effective and organised used of all editing tools in UE4 framework
• Effectively communicate with other members of the team this includes the Technical and Creative Directors.
• Co-ordinate your schedule with the Creative Director and Development Director.

Technical Artist

• Researching and developing solutions for complex art and design workflow collaboration with the respective departments.

Job Description

Dovetail Games is seeking to recruit a Technical Artist, who will acts as a bridge between the artists and programmers working on a game. The TA will ensure art assets can be easily integrated into a game without sacrificing the overall artistic vision or exceeding the technical limits of the chosen platform. The role is a relatively new one for the games industry, but it is becoming increasingly important as game systems become more complex. The Technical Artist works part of the art team, and coordinates closely with the lead artists and the head of content, as well as with head of tech and the lead programmers.

Key aspects of the role include but are not limited to;

• Research and oversee the implementation of rendering techniques such as normal and specular maps, particle systems and pixel shaders.
• Use diagnostic tools to examine current content and identify areas for improvement.
• The creation of custom tools to improve efficiencies within the art and game teams.
• Keeping up-to-date in changes in technology, both in terms of console hardware, art packages and new techniques.
• Effectively communicate with other leaders including the Art, Technical and Creative Directors.

The candidate should be able to show a suitable portfolio demonstrating an understanding of working in 3D graphics, and the ability to create believable and realistic environments in a game engine or 3d modelling package.
