Department TD – Glendale, CA

A Technical Director (TD) provides critical support to a show’s artists and department heads. A Technical Director will design, develop, program and implement new software tools and processes for a particular show or department. As needed, a Technical Director may be asked to do shot work.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide support and development of software tools and procedures to extend and enhance the pipeline.
Assist animators and artists with troubleshooting of shots. Issues mayinclude software and other problems with fur, clothing, particle effects, animation, and rendering.
Ensure software development follows studio policies and guidelines.
Support and work with multiple departments, including Modeling, Animation, Lighting, FX, and Research and Development.
Work closely with other Technical Directors, Production Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, and Production Engineering to maintain and further the production pipeline.
Assist in training and mentoring of other Entry Level and Associate Technical Directors.
Reports to the show’s Supervising Technical Director.


Strong programming skills. Proficiency in C, C++, Object Oriented Programming, Python and/or Perl desired.
Production experience in computer animation, visual effects, or game industry.
Experience with tool integration into existing or new pipelines.
Experience with Maya or other 3rd Party Animation systems.
Ability to establish priorities, work independently or within a group, and work with minimal supervision.
Exceptional communication skills in dealing with both technical and artistic groups.


B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent is required

Lead FX Artist, TV – Glendale, CA

Lead a team in the tasks of designing, animating, lighting and compositing high quality effects through to completion.
Design and create reusable FX rigs with documentation for partner studios.
Responsible for managing the FX pipeline. Appropriately leverage MEL and Python tools as needed.
Work with partner studio to develop and implement assets.


Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience working within a 3D production pipeline. TV production experiences a plus.
Strong understanding of Maya dynamics. Knowledge of rigid bodies, nCloth, nParticles, fluid systems and soft bodies.
Extensive understanding of MEL and Real FLOW. Experience in Python and Particle Illusion a plus.
Strong background in rendering. Knowledge of Mental Ray and Vray and building its shading networks.
Experience in advanced compositing and knowledge of Nuke or other node based compositing software.
May need to travel to partner studio.

Designs and creates reliable and reusable character hair and fur solutions on a TV production schedule.
Develops generalized tools, used in character effects, to help enhance the pipeline.
Creatively solve problems for a fast paced productioninvolving multiple partner studios.
Troubleshoot and solve problems independently.
Demonstrate artistic vision and appropriately expand upon the art direction given.
May require travel to partner studios.


Strong knowledge of Maya, and Shave and a Hair Cut. Exposure to rigging tools and surface modeling techniques preferred.
Dynamic simulation background preferred.
Scripting proficiency in Mel and Python.
Good problem-solving abilities.
Strong communication skills.
Production experience.
Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
Ability to establish priorities, work independently, within a group and with partner studios, and proceed with objectives without supervision.

Animatic Editor, TV – Glendale, CA

Generate timed video of storyboard panels, audio, and sound effects to serve as animation reference.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for generating a rough assembly cut of the episode based on the Director’s notes and vision.
Ensure that the rough assembly is reviewed and approved by Director and other creative department heads. Generate notes and apply to ensure that animatic pitch timing is accurate.
Ensure that quality issues and clarity are adhered to for sound. As needed, add temporary sound effects from sound libraries.
Ensure appropriate production crew members are aware of the temp music, sound requests and any quality issues.
Participate in animatic pitch sessions and maintain responsibility for all revisions to animatic.
Work with Director to intake animatic notes, provide revisions, clarify feedback and generate an output of the locked animatic and prepare for shipping to vendor studios.
Create outputs of pitch animatic and locked animatic for shipping to partner studios.
Ensure production staff is made aware of pickup lines and scratch dialog.
Responsible for timely delivery of deliverables and partner with production to ensure issues or concerns are elevated as needed.
Create edit list as a reference for partner studios to ensure timing is accurate.


1 – 2 years editing experience on Premiere or Avid.
Ability to work in high-pressure environment under tight deadlines
BA in Film preferred, or equivalent experience/education

Storyboard Artist, TV – Glendale, CA

Responsible for ensuring that the storyboards align with the outline / script and the Director’s vision and feedback.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with creative department heads to review goals and vision for the storyboards and discuss concerns, timelines and complexity given parameters of the schedule.
Ensure storyboards align with the creative goals of the leadership team and encompass storytelling objectives.
Work closely with creative department heads to discuss issues, address questions and ensure optimum collaboration.
Pitch thumbnails or roughs to director and creative department heads
Work in conjunction with animatic editor to ensure that the rough animatic includes all appropriate poses prior to the animatic pitch.
Ensure that production staff and creative department heads are aware of status of assignments and any concerns about meeting deadlines or shifts in schedule. Responsible for completing all deliverables on time and according to production schedule.
Responsible for ensuring that the vision and style of the show is consistent and adhered to across all episodes in the storyboards.
Submit work that appropriately aligns with production requirements and workflow guidelines requirements (i.e., naming conventions and storage).


Ability to align with style of show.
Strong knowledge of staging and composition skills. Ability to draw characters on model.
Knowledge of software and hardware, including Cintiq and Photoshop or other applicable storyboarding software
Able to write clear and specific direction on storyboards
Solid and consistent time-management skills
Work well under pressure
Minimum of 2 – 3 years storyboard experience and/or training on a similar show; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
BA/BS preferred
